Yeah I knew these girls that talked bad and down upon EVERYONE in our “friend” group and I was there for all of it, and I can 110% that they talked down about me and they wouldn’t treat anyone right. I was too scared to leave for 3 years bc what they would say about me, but I’ve left now. And now I’m with my true friends.

I had a friend like her in high school. She needed constant attention from boys and would constantly fish for compliments. She really was exhausting to be around. I only hung out with her because she was best friends with one of my close friends. She was really embarrassing too, because of the way she threw herself at guys. Really cringy honestly.

Honestly she sounds like my mother. I haven’t talked to her in almost 2 years. But she always put me down the same way. She also would start fights with my friends so they wouldn’t hangout with me anymore. Most of the friendships I’ve had with my past so called “best friends” were toxic, and I’m currently in a horribly toxic relationship With my boyfriend. I feel like everything I’ve gone through changed me so much as a person, I don’t have anybody who’s there or who cares anymore, including my boyfriend. I had a friend that was really toxic. A few days before Christmas break 2019 she asked if she could keep her boyfriend's suitcase at my house for a 'couple' of days because he was moving and they didn't want to pay for storage and ofcourse I said yes. But after a week I asked her to come pick it up and she was like "no, I'm going to let you keep it for a few more days" and "I have done favors for you, why can't you just do this for me". I then insisted for her to collect the suitcase as my flatmate was having a Christmas dinner and we had no space. Her boyfriend came the next morning, I handed the suitcase to him and once it was in his hand he started shouting at me saying how I am such a bad friend and I am so self absorbed and the relationship is so one sided. He made me cry and made me feel so worthless. She did not message me again after that to apologize for the way her boyfriend acted or anything. But it just showed me how people can just really use you. I am relieved that her and I aren' friends anymore.

I had this same thing! Started off great then it became the same situation. Everything was a drain on me, she only contacted me when she wanted something from me. I ended up depressed with severe anxiety and on anti depressants not JUST because of her but she was a big part of it. I was the shell of the person I was before. Lost confidence and just felt empty. I cut contact one day because I had enough. I started to become a punch bag and she was always in crisis mode 24/7 the one upping syndrome was overwhelming too. Cutting them out my life improved hugely, my confidence came back and my life was simple as peaceful. I stopped the anti depressants

I really enjoy listening to this story. I have gone through a similar but different situation with my ex best friend. There are some mistakes that I have made in the relationship, but after watching this video and your 10 signs you have a toxic friendship (something like that. Sorry) it has really made me reflect on my friendship with her and rethink about what I have done to her. We might have been toxic to each other and I don't think we could be friends anymore, but it is also because she was very rude to me and I couldn't stand it anymore. She made up things that I never said. She told me I have never been supportive, but I have. There is just so much I wish I could talk to you about to tell you what she has done to me. I feel as if I really have no one to talk to (other than my boyfriend) after being stuck in quarantine. If you wouldn't mind, I would LOVE to talk more about this to you. I had a toxic best friend/girlfriend for three years. It was AWFUL. She was a serial dater, new guy every few months, when she was supposedly "dating" me, and the biggest liar I'd ever met in my life. She had lied about a PREGNANCY, hid it from me, her "best friend". No wonder I have anxiety, depression, and major trust issues. So, I'm not gonna be dating anytime soon, but I do want someone who legitimately loves me and a family one day. I don't want a backstabbing lying jerk. I'm only 23, so I have a little bit to figure out everything still. I really wish I hadn't gone through that, but then again, it's helped me see when red flags come up. It sucks that this happens, but hopefully stuff will get better. :)

My ex best friend was so manipulative and it was all about her and if it wasn’t then she had to play a victim for something. She never cared about anything to do with me and after I had surgery last year after my dog and turtle died, she didn’t care at all. I cut her off and she played the victim saying she had things going on and then lied to her step mom, who is still one of my best friends, and said I wasn’t “allowed” to have visitors and that I wasn’t gonna message back while recovering and all these lies and it sucks so bad realizing how much manipulation I went through with her

Jealousy in itself isn't a red flag, it's letting that jealousy control how you think and what you do. Jealousy is a normal human trait that most people have, and you can't always control if you're jealous or not. It's the people that let that jealousy and envy control them and destroy other's because of it that's the horrible red flaggy part. If you're jealous, that's okay, but being horrible to the person you're jealous of instead of talking it all out in a positive and productive way, is not okay. "Sarah" just sounds like a very immature person. She sounds like a girl in middle school or high school that's not as secure in herself as she puts off. Admittedly, some of those traits you described were me when I was a child, just not to her extent. I grew out of that attitude and perspective though, but it seems she hasn't. She sounds like she's stuck in a childish, "I'm better than you and have more than you" attitude. Something a child would think. A pointless, non existent competitive way of thinking.
