The Killer Dowel Pin (KDP) was specific to the 12-valve 5.9s used in the first gen and part of the second gen run. Yours looks like an early 3rd gen, which would have the 24-valve 5.9, and was no longer an issue. The thing to watch for in it is for a "53" stamping on the block (from Mexico) which has a greater chance of the block cracking.

My dad owns a 2006 2500 Long Bed, and one of my best friends is a diesel tech, so I have been around these trucks quite a bit, and we all accepted that the truck will rot around the motor, those Cummins motors are that stout. Prime example (outside of Hoovie's example here) being the fact that my dad's 06 is at about 180K and the entire front end has been pretty much rebuilt suspension wise. That said, for a 48RE former ranch Truck, it was in fantastic shape and with a valve adjustment, runs like a top The 5.9 Cummins is a gem of a motor. If you are finding the truck rough driving, lower the tire pressure. Kinda start at 30-35 psi in the rear, and 35-40 in the front. Put more air in the tires when pulling a load. A lot of people run the tires at 50 front and 80 rear which is way too hard unless you're pulling a load near max GVWR. You'll cup out the center of your tires driving it as a car at those pressures.

You guys don't insist on driving trucks that get 15mpg (US imperial) either. So there's that...

The ISB 5.9 Cummins is a completely different beast from the 6BT Cummins (Legendary 12 valve) that had the KDP issue. The ISB Cummins will have injector issues before it has any KDP problems!

They went to the cab forward design for their large cars. There was also the Fifth Avenue model as well, it was the nicest one.

lol and people still say Rams are unreliable. If u know what engine to get, they're really solid trucks. Plus the new ones have really nice interiors and features.

I had a 1987 Dodge Diplomat SE back in 1997 it had 83k miles paid 800.00 for it in perfect shape. Mine was Chestnut brown with beige vinyl top with beige cloth int. Auto PS/PB cold A/C 318 V-8 mine was converted over to EFI Holley Tilt CC Power seats both sides power Moon Roof Power windows power locks wire hubcaps Chrysler Infinity II Sound with cassette and I added a 10 disc CD changer also had white wall tires. it had 88k miles when I got it and I had it for 1 year and half and it had 99k miles when I solid it for 1360.00 in November of 1998. These can not use ethanol based gad it will eat the hoses out and will run way better on 93 premium. I got 20 MPG city and 26 Highway with mine. I also had a 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue with the are 2 tone garnet red/silver and all power paid 2800 for it back in 2012 and hit a deer with it State Farm totaled the car with only 950.00 worth of damage. they paid me 6500.00 for the car. This makes no sense and it had 89994 miles actual.
