So much love for this insanely talented man, his voice is absolutely amazing, his range is incredible, his high notes are so powerful, and then his chest voice is so rich and warm. Also love his song writing, they are such clever songs, I adore America is Great Again, the harmonies, the lyrics and just the whole tone of the piece. Aladdin’s and Lex’s situations and actions may be similar, but their motivations are entirely different. Aladdin steals pretty much just for shits and giggles, and only wants to get rich to make further stealing easier. Lex, on the other hand, steals the Wiggly with the express plan of selling it to get a better life for herself and her sister, and I don’t get the impression that she plans to continue stealing after that. Aladdin explicitly has no interest in an honest living, and when Ja’far proposes that the riches from the tiger head cave could let him leave his life of crime behind, he rejects it, whereas Lex only steals this one doll to kickstart her life in California, where she’s going to chase her dreams of being an actress. She takes the exact same type of offer that Aladdin refused.
@GoodMorningButch4 жыл бұрын
No I absolutely agree! I just find it interesting that with a very similar set up, the switch in focus of the story and the choice to make him a villain and her a hero is interesting. He is for sure an asshole and portrayed as such all throughout! I just find it interesting that he is.
@sara.bill.y4 жыл бұрын
Plus I think that their age and family background give them very different characterization. Lex comes from an abusive household, and at 16/17 had to drop out of school to work full time (and take responsibility for her little sister). Aladdin had a very loving family (from what we know) and at 33 is still choosing to live a life of crime and laziness instead of finding an actual job ("I don't want one of those!"). I just don't think you can make an actual comparison between the two! XD
@trezalkapeliskova21214 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything above, but for me the most important difference is, that Lex has somebody she cares about. She loves Hannah and she would do anything for her. Even when she is dying, her last thoughts belong to Hannah. Aladdin on the other hand cares only about himself.

ok so coming to this comment section and seeing a total lovefest for Mr. Blim straight up made me start crying???? i just love this man with all my heart, i owe him my life tbh. ALSO no offense but your starkid opinions are my favorites by far - even when I don't agree with them 100% your analysis is always so on point and insightful... your videos are just a joy to watch!! (it also helps you love Jeff and Jamie as much as I do lol) I know this video is about his performances, but one thing I really love about Jeff's writing is how he writes solos for female characters. When the World's at Stake, Not Your Seed, and Black Friday are some of - if not the most - powerful and introspective songs in their respective shows. They have a special layer of depth and care to them that's getting kinda hard to find with modern musical theatre solos for women. And to be fair, Starkid has always written INCREDIBLE songs for their girls!! I mean just listen to Firebringer!! But those three songs by Jeff just... grip me and break me in ways I can't even describe. SORRY FOR THE RANT I just don't have a lot of people I can talk to about my SK opinions and this video/comment section got me in my feels lol anyways thank you for all your amazing videos!!

I would add Lost Without You to the list, as it is one of my all time favorite Starkid songs (and possibly songs period). Mouthface’s optimism despite the grouchy appearance, how ingenue and soft-hearted she still is in her dire circumstances, how distance and trouble makes her appreciate her family so much more and realize how fruitless the bickering with her mama really was… That shit hits me hard lol
@aleyha_3 жыл бұрын
oh. He wrote those songs that I have a hard time listening to because they're so deep that I just cry everytime
@sydjques27034 жыл бұрын
I think the main difference between Aladdin and Lex is less the way Starkids political views have evolved and more the emphasis on age? They really drive in the point that Aladdin is a 33 year old loser throughout the show, and that's his parents were probably closer to the equivalent of middle class in that universe (as they had enough funds to raise him comfortably and then continue to care and pay for him into his 30s) while Lex was born and raised in an environment without opportunity for growth and financial flourishing? Idk man they may not be all around that different, but maybe that's why they play Aladdin as a self-made scumbag, and Lex as the pure angel just surviving?
