My Reaction to Floor Jansen and Henk Poort - Phantom of the Opera

Henk Poort portrayed Erik in the Netherlands national production of Phantom of the Opera for many years. He knows the role like only a select few. Floor Jansen (YAN-sen) says Henk is one of her musical idols. To be allowed to sing this with him was a dream come true for her. There's the source of the chemistry for this piece. Most singers sing what they can...Floor sings what she wants. And nobody...NOBODY...is giving the house band the credit they deserve for being able to nail the Nightwish arrangement note-perfect!

Thank you Gitana! I have never listened to musical theater before in my life. And I know this isn’t really typical of the genre, but DAMNNNNNNNNNN. Both of these guys are awesome. The talent and music is mind blowing, but the part that I loved best was the absolute joy Floor got from doing this. The huge grin after Henkes first growl was priceless. Gave it a thumbs up. Not for the song but for the reaction. I love watching people getting excited about anything. That being said; had it been on another channel it probably wouldn't have been as enjoyable for me. Both of the performers did an outstanding job, so I cant take that away from them. A friend of mine who was familiar with Floor but had not idea who Uncle Henk was, asked me "Wow, what did he do to prepare himself to be such a good Phantom" . To which I replied "I dunno, follow himself around the past 30 years". . Not only did Henk play the Phantom in the '90's, Webber said in an interview that Henk was his favorite Phantom. . Of course across the whole show Floor was totally fangirling, since she had a poster of Henk on the wall as a child. You don't come up through classical music training in the Netherlands and not know who Henk Poort is.

Loved this - your reaction to Ghost Love Score was the first video that I saw of yours and which got me hooked on both that band and your channel. As a result of which this is the first metal band Ive ever got hooked on..at the tender age of 52! My wife is so confused and amused at me getting so 'hooked' on this music that she said Im going through a second childhood! You ought to react to some more of Nightwish - the are completely awesome. Please react to Ever Dream, Wacken 2013, just to get startet. Otherwise you could go for something like you have never seen an experienced before - some of their masterpieces like The Poet and the Pendulum, Wembley 2015 & The Greatest Show on Earth, Tampere 2016 This is not ordinary songs - it is tellings or rather "total experiences" 🤘🤘🤘

Henk Poort was the original Phantom in the Dutch stage version over 30 years ago and was considered by Andrew Lloyd Webber to be the best he ever say playing the part. What's more, he has been Floor's idol ever since she saw him in the role on stage. She requested him to do this duet with her, and he accepted on the provision he would be allowed to join her on stage to reprise this duet when Nightwish tours the Netherlands. That should be awesome. To be honest, Henk is passed his prime where it concerns the strength of his vocals, but still is able to give an awesome performance; he even threw in some distortion to please Floor, a vocal technique normally frowned upon in the musical and opera environment which is his normal stomping ground. BTW writing he is passed his prime is not a slight on his singing abilities but a recognition that with time even the best voices will lose some of their splendour.

Gitana, I’ve watched this reaction several times now and you did an excellent job. One of the things I like to do is see how others react to things I’ve never listened to before. As I said earlier, this was my first foray into Musical Theatre. So, I also went and listened to some of the vocal coaches to help me understand the genre. It’s been a great learning experience. I also heard you say your favorite version was with Sarah Brightman, so I listened to a couple of different versions with her in it. I came to realize just how much Henk brought to the role. The ones I saw with Sarah couldn’t compare. I also have to disagree, I enjoyed Floors version much more. That’s why there are so many versions of great songs, everyone has their own favorite. Thanks for introducing me to this. This version will definitely be added to my playlist. You guys stay safe 👍

Gitana Adelle I became an instant Floor fan after watching this. So much so, I found all 8 episodes of the Beste Zangers 2019 show and watched 6 of them on YT with English subtitles and I had to go to Daily Motion to find the other 2. All of them were great and if you get locked back in with 8 hours to kill, it’s very worth it. And don’t miss Henk singing Sound of Silence Disturbed style for Floor. Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do more of Floor at „Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on KZbin as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them. It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is awesome, isn’t it?!

This song was written by Floor in tribute to her mother who suffers from a very painful condition. Floor has a very powerful reaction to Emma's singing and I guarantee that you will not be able to keep your eyes dry. Years later but... if this is your favorite song ever, check out Nightwish doing a cover of this, with their original singer. I love Floor, and this was amazing, but that Nightwish cover is my favorite version of this song ever, due in large part to Nightwish's musical presence and Marko... but Tarja is amazing in her own right. You have to check it out! Best version ever, imho.

Like you, in my opinion, nothing tops Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford performing this song live. One of the most profound musical moments in my life and, therefore, their performance holds a special and significant meaning that would be practically impossible to displace. I can respect this opinion. I just hope everybody else agrees. Obviously, if somebody dedicates themselves to ONE THING versus being spread out, they are going to master that ONE THING better than anybody who does spread things out in multiple directions.
