Lovely reaction again. Henk (you said his name correct) is a famous Dutch operasinger and musical star. He has played the Phantom for over 600 times in the Netherlands and became one of Lloyd Webers favorite Phantoms. As a child Floor has seen the musical with her parents and became instandly a fangirl over Henk. When Floor heard that Henk would be on Beste Zangers too, she immediately asked to perform this duet with Henk. Henk's answer was that he would do that, but he wanted it to sing with Floor and Nightwish too when they would visit the Netherlands. Uncle Henk is amazing. During this show he sang the Disturbed version of Sound of Silence for Floor. It was the first time ever he sang with distortion. I'm German and I just went and listened to the performance of the Vilja song you shared and it definitely helps to have subtitles 😅 even with German operas you usually hardly understand what they sing, but in the chorus Floor was pretty well understandable when she sang German. When the backup singers started in on Vilja, oh Vilja I got chills!

The best and most fun versions of Floor's Beste Zangers 2019 performances are the English subbed "intro/outro" versions with the before and after talk by the singers. Adds so much context tt songs. So funny that you’re saying Henk has probably sang more classic musical style…he was our Phantom in the Dutch theater. He has a musical and opera history. According to Andrew Loyd Webber he is one of..if not…THE best Phantom! Floor sings this song with nightwish often. And loved the chance to sing this together with Henk. Henk learnt to grunt a bit for Floor and they became friends and performed together more after this evening.

O mio babbino caro by Floor on Dutch TV (long ago, she was just entering Nightwish) and Disdain live by Revamp (Floor her previous band) just before she entered Nightwish. Those are the extremes of Floor Jansen her abilities. On this video, Floor called it afterwards on Dutch TV a magical moment in her career. She had been professionally in love with Henk Poort since her teens. And she finally met him live in this TV show and asked him to sing the Phantom with her. He agreed, but he wanted to sing the Phantom with Nightwish also when in the Netherlands. That happened in Amsterdam. Floor kept her promise. Floor did the Rock academy, but learned to really sing from mr. Hoepelman of the conservatory. He was specialised in musical theatre singing and stage presence and opera. I think she stuck with his (private?) lessons for a few years after the Rock academy. She said she did not study opera singing to a great extent. She can do it, but does not like it. It is too strictly regulated in her opinion.

This duet with Floor was actually the second time we heard Henk Poort growl like that in this season. He covered the Disturbed version of Sound Of Silence a couple of episodes before this one and that was actually the first time anyone heard him sing like that. You definitely should check that out.

I saw an interview, where Henk said, that he never growled before that performance (Cover of Disturbed's interpretation of "Sound of Silence") and he learned that technique just hours before that. He also said he really liked Floors singing, so he sang Sound of Silence for her in that interpretation. And Floor once said, je just started singing because of Henk Poort as the Phantom.

The videos of her singing on Beste Zangers are great if you want to see the wide range of her voice, because Beste Zangers is basically a group of great singers who come together and sing tribute songs to each other (in the other singer’s style or one of their songs, etc). She sang opera with Vilja Lied, salsa with Que se Siente, and a brilliant version of Shallow where you can really feel how well she can tell a story. It’s my favorite version of the song.

Sung at the Retrospect Concert in 2013. My two favourite performances from this show were Floor Jansen singing Vilja Lied, especially great because none of the other people there knew who she was other than she was a metal singer, and the other being Emma Heesters and Henk Poort singing Vivo Per Lei together, it is quite magical. Emma Heesters is a Dutch KZbin cover artist who went viral.

I'm 75 and this is the best Phantom of the Opera performance in history, and I've seen a lot of them, because Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and since 1986 I have seen tons of duets doing this and many videos and the movie. Have seen Phantom of Opera live in Chicago and Las Vegas. I wore out the original 1986 cd playing it all the time. Don't let anybody tell you that the Nightwish with Floor and Henk or the 2005 End of Era with Tarja is better. Those are just for metal heads.

Your comment about Floor as a storyteller: she is very much loved for her talent in that. She recently said in an interview (with the KZbinr The Charismatic Voice) that her main goal is to tell the story and convey the emotion of the music she sings (both on stage and in studio). Old Nightwish songs, originally made with the two previous lead vocalists, did not make sense to me intellectually or emontionally, until I heard Floor perform them. Great reaction! Henk Poort was one on Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite phantom's. There's an epic duet during the same show of him with Emma Heesters with Andrea Boccelli's "Vivo per Lei" you may want to check out. It has millions of views. He also sang "Sound of Silence" for Floor during the same show and learned to sing with distortion for her (within 1 week). Floor sings "Winner" for another singer in the show (who wrote the song for his disabled brother). It's so good! That particular season of the Dutch show Beste Zangers was really special.

I recommend to watch other Floor's performances in this TV show. Those other people who were sitting are singers and they chose and sing each other's songs. Floor did very good job rearranging song's and they are very different styles. One song is in Spanish and she sang first time. Also very recommending to check her with Epica - Stabat mater dolorosa.

Henk Poort is a Dutch baritone singer , who has done classical concerts but also played the phantom in Holland and several other musicals. He is not actively performing anymore but is still a well known Dutch theater/classical singer

Henk - as the dutch Phantom - and Floor did during the pandemic a Jekyll and Hyde Duett called 'dangerous Game ' which is awesome aswell. And did you checked out Floor doing the Vilja Lied aswell for Beste Zangers? Fun Fact: Floor loved him as a child and he only did the Phantom after she promised they'll do it live with nightwish someday. And they did during the Human:Nature Tour at the Ziggo Dome in the Netherlands

The best part about Floor, other than her talent, stage presence and color of voice, is the variety of styles she can perform, on high level. I heard her whole career and she still used voices on newest Nightwish album I've never heard before.

Beste Zangers has some really underrated performances on that show. I really enjoy how all of the artists are sitting around in such a cosy environment and all enjoying each other's performances. A few that I really enjoyed are:- Tommy and Tania - Barcelona Mell - The Blowers Daughter Karsu and Belle Perez - Je Suis Malade Numidia - The Shape I'm in I could go on for ages, but for those out there who haven't heard those, go on, treat yourself.

Henk Poort) (LIVE). P.S. Henk has several years of experience singing the part of the phantom in various productions of this musical in the Netherlands. In addition, Floor has been blessed (or cursed, depending on ones perspective) with the condition of hyper sensitivity, which enables her to sense things others would not notice. I think this helps her storytelling & conveyance of emotions.

Hi Nick, you find the best music show in the world. This was the last song of the 2019 shows (7 shows recorded in a few days on a special location.) The show runs for 15 years now. Floor Jansen solo career: PRIOR to Fall of 2019. Floor's home Country the Netherlands, in general, NEVER heard of Floor Jansen because they don't play metal on the radio there. So only if you were ALREADY a metal head you would've known her from After Forever, ReVamp and/or Nightwish. So, Netherlands = NO METAL. (generalizing) When Floor appeared on the show Beste Zangers in season 12 (No, not a competition, but a singing show where Dutch artists sing to each other when one of them sits on the couch for the whole episode, Floor's "couch" episode was ep4). When all the singers arrived for the show, the ONLY one who knew anything about her was Tim Akkerman who knew her from her time in After Forever. All everyone else knew was some "Metal" singer was going to be on the show. To make this SHORT, she blew everyone away INCLUDING audiences that were watching at their homes on tv. (Watch ALL 8 performances and you’ll be blown away!!! There are uploads that contain ENG subtitles of the before and after banter) Floor NOW became known in the Netherlands, so much so that when she was contacted in late 2019 to book Solo shows she agreed and 9 shows were INSTANTLY sold out for the beginning of 2020!!! BECAUSE many were NEW fans from her time on the show Beste Zangers Floor carefully selected songs from her musical history that would SUIT the audience she was playing to. She said it was tricky to do it in a way where people wouldn't say it was "TOO hard" or "not hard ENOUGH". Floor added a 10th solo show to the list and started a crowd funder where fans around the world pitched in to have the show recorded and released in digital streaming platforms, money was also raised for a cool documentary of the show (which is released already on KZbin). Unfortunately that show had to be delayed because of Covid 19 and lockdowns. FINALLY in September 2021 they were able to do the show and it was all recorded. She has gradually been releasing each song performance one by one, with only ONE more is left and then the whole show will be available to stream in 4K HD. The show opens w/ Nightwish’s “Ever Dream''. Other Nightwish songs performed were "Nemo", "Elan", "Decades in the Sun", “Slow Love Slow”; the other songs came from her previous bands After Forever, ReVamp, Northward project, songs performed on the Beste Zangers show and cover songs she has been releasing on her youtube channel since the pandemic started last year, ALL worth checking out!!! They will have a Rock "sauce" but it is NOT a metal show at ALL. She does 2 musical numbers including "Phantom of the Opera" and she does a cover of Lady Gaga's "Shallow" that she performed on Beste Zangers. In Early 2022 Floor appeared on the German singing tv show “Sing Meinen Song” (similar to Beste Zangers). These are uploaded to Odysee & Dailymotion to watch but don’t react to them on KZbin bcuz they WILL get blocked. Also in 2022 Floor did a solo set at the 2022 “Pinkpop” Festival AND afterwards did a whole set w/ Nightwish, so she performed twice at Pinkpop!!! In 2022 Floor also released her first Solo single “Fire”, then her 2nd “Storm” and then her 3rd “Me Without You”. After doing Metal for over 20 years she wanted to experiment w/ other genres. A full solo album that is NOT metal was released in March 2023!!! The album reached #2 in the Dutch album charts. Later she performed at Pinkpop in the NL, twice in that day, a solo set and later again w/ Nightwish before Metallica took the stage. She also released official videos for the songs “Invincible” (written about PTSD) and “Daydream” (written about coming out of the pandemic and being able to sing again) and the title track “Paragon” which shows 3 different versions of Floor (child, teen and adult). Floor is currently writing music for a 2nd solo album.

And I do agree in what you were saying about pop music. It just doesnt have what opera or classical music has. Its so flat or depthless? I'm also very picky when it comes to female singers.
