The year I turned 17 was literally the most difficult year of my life and I nearly didn't make it. I would tell my 17-year old self five things: 1. You're stronger than you think, you come from a lineage of warriors 2. This too shall pass - healing happens one step at a time 3. They tried to bury you, they didn't know you were a seed 4. There is power in forgiveness - it's called peace 5. You are blessed to be here - don't waste another second accepting the title "victim" And at 39, a few months from 40, these lessons still ring true. And because growth isn't linear, I still need these affirmations every now and then. Venus, thank you for sharing and opening up - really loving seeing you so candid and vulnerable. Keep them coming, we stan a queen 👸 👏 ❤

I admire so much your loving, gracious, and self-effacing comments about growing up in your large family. Your commitment and love of your sister brings tears to my eyes. It's beautiful to see your hard work and respect for your parents paid off so lucratively and emotionally for both you and your sis! Brava! You deserve it all girl! I started playing tennis again after nearly 30 years, in the past week, with watching you for tips, you can bet that I did the happy dance after every successful left handed serve and bouncing home after every practice. Well I like your slices too Venus. I always find your slice as really2 solid. I would tell my 17 years old to brace yourself for the world. I was too naive. I thought money is all out there to grab, and I am the best. But when I finished my degree and I started working. Oh boy, there are soooo many more talented, smarter people than I was. It humbles me down a lot. I used to want to be successful so much and prove to people that I was special that everytime there was failure ill get super crushed. I was unhappy. At one point I just wake up and realize. I dont want to be in a high stress environment and always ended up losing no matter how hard I tried. I opted for a less competitive career where I can perform better. I have far less work stress than I used to be, and I am so much more happy. My 20s was wasted doing stuff that I am not meant to be and I was depressed. My 30s was so much better. I like to advice young people out there to really find out what are you good at, dont be overconfident of yourself unless you really are brilliant. Be smart with how you plan your life. PS : I agree with you. Martina Hingis is a formidable talent. That volley was just sickening.

I really enjoyed this! Last weekend I watched your 2000 US Open semi-final match against Hingis and was amazed at how much terrific shot-making y'all were making. I was thinking, "I wish she would do a react to just this match." I am glad you made this video. You one of the greatest and can't wait to see you back on tour. P.S. If you do a react to one your US Open or Wimbledon match against Martina Hingis you think she'll come on the video with you for a joint review? 🤣🤣🤣Prolly not.

Venus Williams because of you I became a tennis man back in the year 2000. I am still dreaming about appearing in my first Grand Slam event maybe in 2022 or 2023.

I love this. I will never forget that I was a freshman in college and they would replay your matches downstairs in our game room and I was just stunned that a 17 year old girl made the US Open final. I have been a fan ever since.

@@VenusWilliams You're very welcome. I woke up my roommates when you won your 1st Slam at 2000 Wimbledon. Sitting on the floor in my room watching breakfast at Wimbledon on a 13 inch tv. Lol. Picture that. You're an inspiration to so many people.

Enjoyed going over your 1st U.S. Open with you. I was there working with the press as a photographer. I was sitting right behind you during your semifinal match. I saw the bump and I know what she said about you in the press conference. You handled the whole thing with class. You are the Class of tennis. You are the legend.
