Hey Jake, Thanks for making these review video's. After your original video on the GMX-3 I checked my own riser and noticed it had the same "faults" that you mentioned. The stabilizer bushing aswel as some of the other bushings were off center, and in my case the top limb wouldn't align using 4 Beiter block. Atleast not unless i used 5 of the chims on one side to align the limb in the z axis. (as a side note the limb is not twisted as it does align perfectly fine on my Exeed riser) After mentioning these faults to my local supplier they were sceptical at first, but because one of the employees had also seen your video review I was able to warranty the riser.

A lot of us archery people, especially outside of the US, do not know how to inspect the gear we purchase from our suppliers. Most of the time we just take what we are given. I think you have an opportunity here to make content in this area. How to inspect, how and who to contact, and what is warrantable? This would be very beneficial to the community and make it harder for immoral merchants from scamming average archers.

Hey Jake , thanks for following up on this review. The mismatch you are seeing on the riser could be caused by the riser not being zeroed out the same when they flipped it over in the fixture, or the outside profile is not square to the side profile. I’d be willing to bet it’s how they are picking up zero, when they flipped in the fixture. It’s also possible, the riser may not have been seated well in the fixture after flipping it. Like you said it’s not a big deal.

Agree on all account however I’ve seen this exact same L/R shape difference on every GMX 3. So it’s a consistent issue. Thanks for the comment!

At the Vegas Shoot the engineer told me that they are dealing with a new subcontractor. The bows and limbs have been on back order because they are working on getting the manufacturing up to the high quality that is expected from Hoyt. Give them time to work it out and thanks for giving them the information.
@edgerat8 ай бұрын
give them time to work out selling $800 risers and $2000 compounds that are built out of spec.
@yanglai5248 ай бұрын
I can understand quality control issue with a sub, but Hoyt still has to inspect and accept or deny the delivery from their sub’s. You can’t just blame the sub for below par work and then accept and turn around and sell them to the public hoping that no one will notice. Is there no pride in the brand and products anymore?
@typhoon28278 ай бұрын
Didn't stop them pushing them out there. Fortunately for the consumer, Lancaster didn't check a top end product before sending it out to a youtuber (two time olympic silver medalist consumer hero). Epic fail by Hoyt and Lancaster. Should really have been up to the suppliers to call out the manufacturer's lack of QC, not the end user. I also wonder what the response would have been from Hoyt and Lancaster had it been Joe Schmoe not Jake Kaminski...

Are the defects on the GMX 3 common? I am about to grab a used one, that was likely produced near release date- Just wondering if you have any insights on this. That uneven chamfer under the grip, even though not affecting performance, would bug the hell out of me. For that price I would expect a bit more precision especially from Hoyt.

No, not at all. A hobbyist in their garage can do better than that with a cheap machine. Hoyt should have quality machines with skilled operators, given the time to work properly. For the price and “quality” of this riser, anything less just isn’t good enough. For the Hoyt name to mean anything, they have to put in the effort. This is them not even trying

Now a riser or set of limbs in Australia are the same price: $1500... so $3k for a setup with the risk of warranty claim thay will take 6 months between shipping back etc..., there s really not much reason t9 buy Hoyt over here. I think all the High-end archery equipment, riser and limbs are overpriced, but their functionality, stability and quality of workmanship don't justify the price. For example, Hoyt's bows, I've been seeing problems with the gmx3 Stabilizer bushing not being centered, the Bolts on the new formular xi slipping, the Limbforks cracking, the white paint not being even, etc. And they often cost more than 1000 euros. This should not be a problem in such a price range. An archery enthusiast would have to spend more than 3,500 euros to get the set he or she wants. A car can be bought for this price in Europe.
@chrisbowman20308 ай бұрын
Well said! In my club i saw two Hoyt Satori risers were the Berger hole thread wasn't properly tapped, by now. So you can't screw in a plunger or an arrow rest, like a NAP Centerrest. Paint wasn't the best too. Same with twisted limbs. On my last Hoyt bow the paint was coming of the riser and i had stresslines forming on the limb. On my 1k € riser from the US paint is a problem too. The company even admitted to it. I coach and set up a lot of bows. I had far less problems with mid range equipment from China then with all this expensive stuff from the USA.

Where the word AXIA is mirrored on the limbs, is the mirror plane centred on the limb? On all the AXIAs I've seen, this logo is not centred. It isn't a problem at all other than seeming odd during bow alignment. But it suggests a lack of care during manufacture and not what I'd expect on what is already overpriced top end gear. A bit like the assymetric chamfer on the riser.
