I have a friend who moved to Japan mid last year. She's gone over to teach English. She's from Texas. Short little white girl, very friendly, very smart, but very white. I've talked to her since this has blown up, and it did blow up. She has been talked to by her foster home, by her employer, by a representative of the teacher exchange, and they all want to know the same thing: Did you know this guy? No, she did not. But I know for a fact it's become harder for her to be there after this. Things are starting to smooth out again, but slowly. She's said that the students all want to ask about things, but got more reserved around her, almost scared to say things. This is what happens when one person with a loud mouth and a camera does something like this.

+Cory Goodman The law doesn't really dictate morality. Most empathetic people will think it is distasteful to film the body of someone who has obviously suffered greatly. Whether or not he has legally lost the right to privacy, most rational people would probably think: "Hmmm, for the sake of his family, maybe I shouldn't film his purpled carcass hanging from a tree. Also, he probably wouldn't want me to use his body for KZbin views."

I remember telling a person in my school what Logan Paul did. I told him about how he filmed a guy hanging himself in a Japanese suicide forest. The person asked, "Was the man hanging himself Japanese?" I respond "Most likley." He laughed at that. When I asked him why he laughed his response was "Japan bombed pearl harbor." That person's reaction to hear that Logan Paul filmed a persons hanging themself was disgusting just like Logan Paul's video. I asked him if he thought suicide was a joke and would he laugh if he saw someone he love hang themself. He said "No but Japan bombed pearl harbor!" I responded "That man who hung himself had a family who loved him and when Logan Paul filmed him and made jokes it was DISGUSTING! I can't believe you would LAUGH at that!" I was so close to ripping his head off. What Logan Paul did was disgusting and that kid in my school's reaction was disgusting.

Actually no. The original meaning of the proverb "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" is actually a traveler safety advice. If you don't want to get into trouble, blend in with the locals. Eg: When in Arab, Guys should never act gay lest they be dead. When in Arab, girls should cover their hairs like every other girls lest they get into trouble. These are customs which many modern people agree should not be respected but if you're in Rome and you don't want to get crucified, do as the Romans do.

Through learning about this other culture, which has blow my mind time and time again and also learning about my own origin culture (mainly how difficult a language English is...), i have expanded my shallow point of view to a point were I can start to understand a little bit about anything I see around me. Japan taught me similar things that you mentioned in this video; respect, patience, calmness/tranquility, I was and still plan on trying for the JET program, and then someone comes along to ruin it for all of us. I refuse to start piecing together his mind in that moment, but their is one rule/saying that should be respected; 'When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do' If you cant respect the culture and people there, if you cant abide by their rules in their home, you don't have anything to say.

His channel should be taken down permanently for this, but it won't be. My heart is shattered. There are no words to express the shame I feel knowing that he as someone who is famous, represents myself and my friends and family as Americans. My uncle, who visits Japan often, offered to take me with him when he goes next to visit Kiyomizu-dera. I still want to go but now I just feel so embarrassed. I've never seen a single one of Logan Paul's videos and now I'm going to go over to his channel, only in order to block him.

The situation itself was a long time ago, but I think revisiting the greater concept every so often, is so important. I cried when you showed all of the lovely memoirs you've collected over the years, all symbolic of the meaningful bonds you've made. It should be all of our goals to create *real* multicultural connections, I have plenty of my own similar treasures! People like Goombah are giving us all the opportunity to make these bonds real, despite those who lack any humility.

Even w/o the cultural respect angle, what he did was just wrong on a basic human level. He just trivialized the death of a person who was suffering inside. He made no effort to stop the suicide or report the incident but instead selfishly took out his camera so that he would be the 1st to benefit from the shock value and controversy that his video would stir. That idiot reduced the life of a human being into nothing but click bait. Absolutely disgusting. It's also sad knowing that there are 6M people who got hooked into his scheme, and some of them had the gaul to leave a like. Nobody should like it when there's a dead body on display

I'm in no way defending him, but he did apply his own culture's customs when dealing with the situation. That is, to say how wrong suicide is, to seek help, etc, etc. And most of his views don't know the deep culture of Japan, so they thought what he did was the right thing to do, to see if the man was alive and in need of help, then making it clear how suicide isn't the answer and to seek help. It goes to show just how many people don't know anything about Japanese culture, and why should they if they never plan to go to Japan? The full blame lies with Logan for just flat out refusing to respect the culture and then subjecting his viewers to his own incompetence. As a Content Creator, your viewers rely on you heavily on right and wrong, as dumb as that sounds. If he posted it, his viewers would assume it was the right thing to do and support him. CCs hold a lot more power than a lot of the new generation trash seem to know.

I know my comment will be drowned out by the other 11k+ comments, but this legitimately made me cry. While I haven't ever been to Japan, I have invested a lot of time learning about the culture and the second I read the title I literally almost cursed and as anyone will tell you that knows me, I never do that. I honestly think I put the thought aside because a lot of fellow Americans (and more) called Logan out, but honestly? The second I saw your thumb nail, I realized that that was complete wishful thinking. It really hit me hard when you talked about all those people you spent so long developing relationships with them and how he possibly just destroyed that chance for other people just- it pissed me off. I didn't know he existed before, I only found out due to this drama, but I wish it had stayed that way. The entire video was insulting and disgusting, even from a foreign perspective, not to mention it was completely insulting to people who have mental illnesses as well. Everything he did was a disaster and even though he sent out a few apologies, the second one was him semi defending what he did, and I don't think he even knows or cares about the awful damage that has been done. At this point my comment has gone on for far too long and it's not like anyone will see it anyway, but thank you sincerely for making this video. Honestly I was thinking about this more, and I can only imagine what some other amazing KZbinrs who live in Japan and and are amazing people who are probably absolutely furious about this as well (Texan in Tokyo mainly comes to mind because she is a foreigner who teaches in Japan) and it all just feels like someone pouring salt in a deep stab wound and rubbing it in while the person doing it is laughing at your pain. Honestly this comment has now has become way too long, but I felt like I had to express that, and as I said before, no one will probably read this, so might as well.

I don't understand why he did what he did.... even in america, YOU DO NOT FILM A DEAD BODY! There are so many laws and regulations to that even in america. You respect the dead, not make fun of it. Not film it over and over again to make it look funny. It is not just out of respect for the dead, but respect for those who have been left behind. I watched Destination Truth where they went into those woods looking for ghosts. They may of been hunting for the spirits to see if the stories were true but everything they did there was respectful. They showed the dark seriousness of what those people go through when they choose to commit to suicide. They found a campsite abandoned by someone who came up there to contemplate their death, they found ripped up photos of friends and family that someone left within a small pile of brush. I can understand the poking fun part of some aspects of Japan, some Japanese even seem to poke fun of it themselves, but there is always a limit just as you said Gaijin, and he broke it badly. In my mind, not only should he be banned from Japan, but banned to leave the country because if he does this there, then he may just do it in other countries too.

Because he's spent his whole life being rich and never being told no. He's a spoiled child who's gotten away with everything he's done because he's worth millions. Welcome to our world, I doubt he will be punished very harshly, which is WRONG, but that's our world he's worth to much money to punish. He was told to be respectful I'm sure but at this point I think he has gone to far mentally, no one will get to tell him no because of his status as an internet star. I would LOVE to see him jailed for this but it won't happen, the best thing we can do is try to hurt Logan's popularity and express ADAMANTLY that any other person in that situation, no matter the race would be respectful of the dead. I agree with you completely, and at this point I think I' rambling out of disappointment. There is a time to be funny and a time to grow up, let's hope this backlash is serious enough to get to him and maybe, MAYBE he will learn something. Though at this point I doubt it.

They honestly are so eager to be accepted that they trip over themselves and fall flat. It's unfair to ask this of you but I hope you can spread this message. We are flawed we fail and mess up but we want to learn and try. I'm rambling but in the end all I can say is I'm sorry and I'm a little ashamed after all this.

Unfortunately, the apes never learn a thing from the atrocities of the past. To post this sort of thing is the act of committing and creating atrocities, but to have popularity, and enough to cause an uproar across an entire platform is...simply abhorrent. This act damaged the views of American men across and, simply put...Fucked everything up. People like Logan Paul desperately needed parents like mine when they were younger, as their views on different cultures and people were to always show humility and kindness, even if you had nothing to do with ANYTHING of a certain culture or person. What Logan did was throw that out of the window, just so he can get some quick clickbait cash. I used to wonder what true shame and regret for a person I never knew personally truly meant...but this just proves it for me. Excuse me if this sounds repetitive, reused, or terribly explained, but I'm not typing to prove a point, make a coversation, or shitpost on the comments, I'm typing from emotion, and remorse for this atrocity committed at the beginning of 2018. I hope people change soon, before we truly hit rock bottom. -Some Idiot from the Internet.

@nolikeshomestuck13046 жыл бұрын
You are such a great man. What Logan Paul did was undoubtably irresponsible, disrespectful, and unjust. His actions were very inappropriate, rude, and on top of that he has ruined someone's families lives. The person who committed suicide most likely went through a hard time, and I suspect their family most likely feels terrible as well. Logan making light of their death is by far one of the worst things you could EVER do. No matter the country, no matter the place, no matter the person. Making light of someone's death is terrible. His actions were so terrible, it almost makes me ashamed of foreigners in general. He most likely ruined a bunch of natives opinions on foreigners, so much so that no matter what they will think of them are disrespectful and uncultured. It is sad what he has done. Ruining a persons life, especially one who's committed suicide is probably one of the most horrific things he could've done. As someone who has received two suicide notes from friends who've committed suicide, (Rest in Paradise Tamaki and Eliza) they do not commit suicide over something small. Most likely things have been going wrong, and they feel either like everyone would be happier without them, or they just can't suffer any longer. To put light on that makes me ashamed of how terrible a person can be. You Gaijin, you made my day. You've spoken what we all thought and are thinking. I hope this doesn't out a rock in your career and you can keep doing such amazing actions. You are such an amazing person and you deserve the best out of everything. Not only did Logan's video disgrace the people of Japan, but it also disgraced those who WANT TO GO TO JAPAN BECAUSE IT WAS OUR LIFE'S DREAM TO SIMPLY VISIT THE COUNTRY FOR AT LEAST ONE DAMN DAY. And from these circumstances, my dream will most likely never come true.
@brkr787 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you can visit Japan just fine, for 1 day, one week, one month. Just don't expect to be anything but a guest and tourist in that country. Yes, this probably will have some effect on tourists. It's not the tourists that have to deal with this BS, because the Japanese know very well that you'll be gone in x days, and they can cope with that just fine. But the effect on expats and the likes will be waaay bigger, he destroyed a lot of trust for a lot of people in Japan buy basically acting like a Jackass 24/7 for the lulz, reinforcing the stereotype of rude, loud, obnoxious and even downright malicious behaviour of gaijin. So yeah, I'm totaly with Goombah on this one, he did all of this for teh moneyz and teh lolz and damaged more than he could ever imagine! I also thouroughly believe that he lacks that amount of foresight or insight into the topic, he is the epitomy of a child trapped in an adults body.

You still can. As detestable as the situation is, it doesn't stop you from visiting. People and authorities might be more careful in regards to where and what you're allowed to record but tourism is still fine. Goombah is right, there will likely be a lasting knock-on effect as far as how some Japanese view foreigners but I don't see how it would affect a tourist's day to day in Japan. Just don't be an asshole and you'll be fine.

Compared to you, I know next to nothing about Japan, but I’m really interested in them and their culture, and I use your videos as a good source of knowledge about them. And it pains me to see that this has happened, and seeing those clips made me cringe. I know this is probably stupid of me to say or something, but I just hope this blows over fast. I hope this doesn’t make the jobs of people like you harder. I long to see the day, as you described, where our cultures come to a mutual respect and understanding. I know you’re most likely not going to see this, Gaijin, but I hope this whole situation doesn’t impact your content and your videos because I’ve learned so much from you and hope to learn more. Anyways, enough with my rambling. I hope this situation is forgotten.

As someone who also loves Japanese culture and wants to teach English there it- I was disheartened by his actions just from the clips shown here that didn’t include the forest. What he did in Aokigahara was inexcusable. How detached do you have to be from reality to you have to be to not only record someone that has passed, joke about it, “like this video if you feel sad,” not decided to edit it out and put it as the GODDAMN THUMBNAIL! Logan shouldn’t be allow to travel to different places if he doesn’t know or care to act like a decent human being.

To the people who've said they're no longer sure if they should go to Japan to visit the country, and learn about the lives her people lead--go anyway. You are the people who _should_ visit Japan, because you understand the respect that is both needed, and expected of foreign visitors. It might be tough, but shying away from an issue doesn't solve the fundamental problem. You can only prove who you are--and who you represent--by showing those who might meet you your own truth.

My country (Malaysia) got banned for a while from renting a Japanese home after a jackass from our country vandalised the place and threatened the homekeeper (who is also Malaysian). The homekeeper forgived his actions and plead to the hone owner to not take it to heart. So in a nutshell, even Asians get the same treatments in Japan XD.

AGREE!! This is why we NEED to keep going to Japan and showing that most tourists can and do act respectfully. I get that gaijin will always be considered other or outside of Japanese society and it is frustrating that incidents like this only exacerbate the problem, but it will never get better if people allow this image of us to overshadow all the people who are really interested in Japan who would never do something like this. Gaijin stand out in Japan and we must be mindful of our actions to keep working to diminish the divide between our cultures. With education and effort we can bridge the gap and show that idiots like Logan aren't representative of gaijin as a whole.

As a soldier, I was stationed for a year in South Korea, and it was a pretty incredible experience. The point is, however, that when you first arrive there, it is pounded into your head that you check your actions and carry yourself with dignity and respect, as you are an ambassador for all of America and the Army whilst you stay there. I think that mentality is incredibly important, especially when you visit, even for a day, cultures that are quite alien from your own.

I'm pissed, PISSED at Logan! I've spent the last several years studying Japan, Japanese, their culture and so much more. I've been wanting to travel to Japan, study, get you know people, work and even live there, and this will just make it that much harder. People are already profiled as is, and it will just happen more now. I love and have come to know so much about Japan so that one day I could have the chance to live in Japan, so that I could hear people's perspective on things and so much more, and this probably just destroyed many of those chances. THAT WAS DISGUSTING, SCUMMY, ROTTEN, INCONSIDERATE, INSENSITIVE, AND THINGS I DON'T HAVE WORDS FOR!!!! I'm pissed at him for that, and he needs to be banned for what he did, he needs consequences for how insensitive and inconsiderate he was. It may take years to reverse the damage he did in doing what he did, the damage may even be irreversible for good. I'm so mad I don't have words, while he bugged me before, it didn't affect me really. But this, this has a affect on what I was hoping, dreaming, and working towards.
