I’m all about critical care management. As a former firefighter/medic and army vet you’d think I’d gravitate towards the bluer collar mechanical aptitude tasks, but it’s actually made me more aware of my preference for intellectual work. I need both which is why I’m considering anesthesia. I’d probably shoot for ortho if I didn’t have two little kids that I can’t imagine not being able to see grow up. Do you think ortho is possible for people that value family time? From everything I’ve seen it’s pretty much for single nonparents, or those that don’t value family time. When I was doing clinicals in the OR I’ve witnessed ortho surgeons having meltdowns about how everyone is a “goddamn shift worker except me! I stay until the job is bleeping done!” Surgery is cool and I am results oriented but maybe it’s just not a good fit. I also think you can make anything a good fit with the right attitude. Let me know doc!

I'm pretty sure, if you wrote down what you said in this video on a paper instead of uploading it then called kevin jubbal and had a 40 minute to 1 hour conversation with him discussing this would've been very good but more chaotic and more entertaining at the same time

Hey Dr. Webb! I have a question that I have been having trouble getting answered. I am a first-year medical student and am currently interested in both Orthopedic spine and Neurosurgery specialties. I am trying to become involved with either one of these departments at my medical school early next year to begin diving in and learning all that I can. But, I didn't know if it would hinder myself or my application if I choose to become heavily involved with my school's orthopedic spine research and resident department, then down the road ultimately decide to pursue a career in Neurosurgery (or vice versa). When looking at both specialties, my school's Orthopedic department has more clinical advantages and more avenues of research with increased autonomy, as compared to the Neurosurgery department. Just want to make the most informed decision I can, to ensure I looked at all of my possibilities and do what I can early on. Love the content,!

You may have done this one but I always was interested in the differences of old to the more lack of differences in a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) to an MD, very interesting which I think most do not understand. Also I think a DO is misunderstood by many as a Doctor of Orthopedics, not so, my doctor for decades was a DO until she retired, my new doc is also a DO, did not chose them for that, just happened to be. What i have understood is a DO was previously much more skeletal based? well and also a whole body as opposed to a specific approach, although I have seen no differences in being treated by an MD or a DO, was it always not the case?

Is an orthopedic spine surgeon the right doctor to receive care after ACDF which was done after large central herniation was causing severe spinal canal stenosis and cord deformity with myleomalacia and edema, or should I be seeing a neurologist. Im a Medicaid patient and feel like i am responsible for my own health. Leaving my care to my Dr's and the insurance company left my spinal cord in a state of reduced oxygen for 6 months while I did physical therapy before the insurance would pay for MRI.

Excellent fair minded analysis. Countered every point made which made ortho seem less appealing and difficult as well as debunking the myths and stereotypes, which hold no true value. Maybe Dr Jubbal added them in for entertainment purposes. Regardless, very insightful and informative video. Ortho is definitely the most diverse and in my opinion fulfilling, speciality to get into. Thankyou Dr Webb.

"Dr" Jubbal doesn't even practice medicine. He didn't finish his plastic surgery residency and never indicates an intention to pursue a 2nd residency....therefore I'm really not taking his video seriously. IMHO. if your going to be a good med school coach its appropriate to actually practice medicine. Otherwise you are not practicing what you preach and your coaching is not very compelling. Just my opinion. I admire youtube docs who actually practice medicine. Thanks Dr. Webb
@Tcargoringo6 ай бұрын
Not even gonna get into how bad this logic is. Jubbal is making videos from the perspective as a former med student, whose perspective is valuable in a different way than that of an attending doctor, and also probably more relevant to prospective students.
