My rifle was zeroed before I safely and gently stored it for years -- Do I need to check the scope?

Two of my rifles were stored in my gun safe, one for 8 months and the other for as many as 8 years between uses. One is a Winchester Model 88 in .308 Win and the other is a Marlin Glenfield Model 60 in .22 long rifle. Both were zeroed when I put them in the safe. Since they were not bumped or mis-handled, surely they are still zeroed, right? Well, "probably not" is the right answer. So I take them to the range and see how far off they are. And I take the time to zero them again. It's fun and gives me confidence for hunting season.

I shoot a model 88 in 308 too. It was my grandfather's rifle and my most prized gun. It's my go to Deer getter and I feed it 180g power points.

I imagine it's very satisfying to successfully use a hunting rifle that's been in the family. You've inspired me to pull out my father-in-law's .300 Savage and give it a tune up. Good Hunting!
