I recently got a chance to see the Rivian R2 up close at their NYC studio, and let me tell you, it's gorgeous! This video is for anyone considering the R2. I'll skip the specs and features as there are plenty of videos out there already and I am sure many of you watching already know about it. I am going to focus on the size, my initial impressions, and fit-and-finish aspects you really care about. This video is also for all those who are either considering a Tesla Model Y or have one and planning to switch. Enjoy my first impressions of the Rivian R2.

Great coverage! I reserved mine right after RJ rolled it out, during the reveal event in Irvine, so I’m also one of the first 68,000 and can’t wait for 2026, either! A couple of things…Kyle, of Out of Spec Reviews, was at the recent event in Normal, IL, and spoke with RJ and engineers, who said there WILL BE A REAR WIPER and they may reconsider the charging port location on the passenger side, possibly moving it to the driver’s side. RJ spoke about the need for it to be in the rear, to keep the power load close to the plug, but it could be on either side. The original concern was for European street side charging, but it seems they’re reconsidering, due to customer reactions.

I am so happy to know the rear wiper is going no where. The change in the charge port location makes sense. Thanks for sharing this valuable information. 👌

Like it a lot but the only negative thing is the button to open the door from inside. Please considering of mechanical release.

There’s also a mechanical release. Each car that has an electronic release is required to have a mechanical one too

I believe Rivian said that the R2 will have a rear wiper.
