the only thing im thinking of is the cost of replacing the battery once its out of warranty.
@wlsntech9 ай бұрын
I’m afraid to buy this car because I’m gonna have to replace its engine of warranty in about 15 years. That’s how you sound. They complete nothing. Most batteries perform above expectations for 10 to 15 years. Most warranties are 8 to 10 years. Incredibly rare to have anything wrong with your battery besides an act of god. It’s basically using a gas car in those situations. I’m sure you’re gonna follow up with how EV’s blow up. Even though that’s just as rare or happens even less then gas cars catching fire. I understand how scary new technology can be there should be concerned, but don’t overexaggerate..
@smarticus63849 ай бұрын
The Rivian R1T Quad-large pack warranty is eight years or 175,000 miles. That is probably better than most engine warranties from anyone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chriswright64479 ай бұрын
There are plenty of other people out there with decades of experience in the car business. They're all saying the same thing. It's a matter of time before Rivian goes bust. It's a cool-looking car and it looks to be quality made. However that doesn't change the fact that they are losing tons of money and have no plan to reverse that. Some of their manufacturing plans have been put on hold. And word in the automotive field is that it's not temporarily on hold. It's permanent.

@ariescorner76559 ай бұрын
@@smarticus6384 let me put this in context for your. I have a 2015 ford Fusion with 77,000 miles. Does it sound that old? Not really, but it’s almost 10 years old and out of warranty by now. Now let’s say anything other than the transmission or engine breaks it’s probably going to be $500-$1500 to fix. Now let’s say the engine blows, a used one may be 4 or 5K to put in, now let’s say the transmission goes out maybe 3 or 4K. In all likelihood these things won’t happen either for another 5-10 years at such low mileage per year. Because engines don’t degrade like batteries do. Now let’s say I bought a 2012 Tesla Model S instead like an idiot. After a decade the batteries got old or are about to fail. Well I just googled the price and I found an invoice in a forum. “the price, clearly stated on the invoice, is $20,000 for the battery alone. In fact, I get $20,333.80 for parts alone, plus whatever labor would really have been.”

Tesla made a huge mistake opening up their Supercharger network to competitors, giving away their competitive advantage of the largest most reliable coast to coast charging network. Even a Tesla owner like myself would go Rivian or Porsche now that they're getting NACs charging.
@CowboysKeith9 ай бұрын
That's the only reason I'm here entertaining the idea of a non-Tesla as our next EV. Supercharging my Tesla hasn't been an issue but with 3rd parties and placement of their charging ports, that can easily become a problem.
@xQuandaleDinglex7 ай бұрын
A mistake for them? I'm sure they took a long, hard look at their network and decided it was the best move. And it is. It's better to have more options when charging your vehicle. Rivians will soon charge with both CCS and NACS. You're gonna have a lot more charging stations to choose from. And it won't be on Tesla to do all the work to maintain an open standard.
@TheLionThing6 ай бұрын
I don't think it's a mistake for them financially. They make money every time a Rivian, Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes, etc. charges, and that will add up quickly (my own assessment, I'm not an expert). That said, it's definitely going to make Superchargers a lot less pleasant to use; they can already get quite full. They need to build out more of them. Yes, the vehicle is well thought out and stylish. I am respectfully saying here that if Rivian (or any other EV maker) wants to attract middle class US buyers, the price must be competitive with economical ICE cars and marketed to people who use cars for inner city driving only due to charging hassles. Plus, the tires wear out faster on these heavier cars, and if/when a fire occurs, it cannot be put out by conventional means. And, middle class buyers are not able to afford new battery packs for these vehicles. There is much potential for these cars, but IMHO, there use is limited until the above issues can be successfully addressed.

There are still plenty of 2012 and 2013 Tesla Model S on the road today (a neighbor of mine daily drives his still), replacing batteries isn't as much of a concern as you might think. I'm not sure of Rivian's warranty, but Tesla offers 8 years/120k mile warranty I believe, which I think shows their confidence in the parts. The average American replaces their vehicle every 5-6 years which is much shorter than the warranty on the battery. I don't even think ICE vehicles offer warranties as long as Tesla does for their batteries generally. My ICE vehicle didn't even have a powertrain warranty as long as Tesla covers their batteries lol, I think it was around 5 years/100k miles.
@ed80189 ай бұрын
Yeah I hear the common concerns about EVs and as an EV owner I honestly think they're exaggerated. My EV is about 6 years old now and it's still going strong. Very reliable. I have never thought about range or battery fires or how expensive it was. Do I wish it were cheaper? Sure. Do I feel like I overpaid? Nope. It's the best car I've ever driven. It's been worth the money. And it pretty quickly convinced me that I'm never going back to ICE vehicles if I can help it. The one gripe I do agree with is the tires wear out faster than on ICE vehicles. And that's annoying. But overall I am very much looking forward to the R2 as my next vehicle.

I always liked Rivian, and this is solid. Excited for the R3 in a little while, the profile looks amazing

Love the R2 and am super interested in the R3X. Looks like they nailed the designs on both. Hope they can deliver.

Size wise? How comfortable will it be for five adults? Thanks for sharing this video

What about the flashlight? The side window pop out? I know there's no air pump or Bluetooth speaker like R1S. Very Nice SUV.

Great video. Thank you. I have a deposit on one and don't have clear insight on whether it has Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats or a heated steering wheel. Did you happen to notice any of those features being included? I'm making assumptions on front and rear parking sensors as well as some form of blind spot monitoring and self-driving.

I did some research on that some days ago. Seems Rivian does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It's a big miss from that front.

Thank you for the reply. That's a bummer. Maybe that will change over time. Seems like a missed opportunity for sure.

I'm also curious about ventilated seats. Not having them is a deal breaker.
@ScottParisi9 ай бұрын
Same. Got them as air-conditioned seats, for the first time, in my 2004 Lincoln Aviator and said never again will I not have them. I hope Rivian gets this right for both of us.

Having seen you review the R2 and the Macan EV. Which one do you like more overall? I know you cant compare driving dynamics with the prototype R2 but curious on the aesthetics aspect what you think? Price difference is quite substantial, 45k R2 compared to 30k more for the base Macan EV.

Hmmm, does it have NACS charging? If not, then gonna skip it since I can't use my existing home charger and the supercharger network.

Are they going to put more power sockets other than just the USB-C? It would be nice to have. It would be nice to have at least one or two 12V (cigarette lighter style) plugs. That is the one complain on my R1S (only has one in the back) -- and I did not see any in the R2....

Just wish those headlights would finally be vertical. The current design is just as iconic as it is goofy looking. I did like most other choices they made with this vehicle. You mentioned that the storage capacity would remain the same, even with the tri-motor version but I'm wondering if that remains true with the larger battery option. It's nice that they gave you the price for the cheapest version but I'd really like to know the cost of the highest spec option.

RJ and Frank, please provide some RWD trims at launch. I really cannot afford anything more than 45k and I am not waiting for R3. I am a 2021 & 2023 R1T quad owner through my parents (who have an EEAP vehicle as well). I am 23 year old college graduate that is currently employed by Rivian and living at home temporarily. My configuration will be RWD. I understand that the more expensive ones (Dual + Tri) need to be prioritized for profit reasons. But RWD will be easier/quicker to manufacture. Also a lot of the markets that you will be successful in (especially in the beginning) are warm/non snow states. Those regions will be configuring RWD more and if the goal is to get as many in the market as possible, then maybe RWD should also get some prioritization too.

I'm not an EV fan. The Rivian is the only one that I like. I think they are a more thoughtful EV company and put more into R&D than the other EV brands.
