@suzanneflowers22306 ай бұрын
Yes, the vehicle is well thought out and stylish. I am respectfully saying here that if Rivian (or any other EV maker) wants to attract middle class US buyers, the price must be competitive with economical ICE cars and marketed to people who use cars for inner city driving only due to charging hassles. Plus, the tires wear out faster on these heavier cars, and if/when a fire occurs, it cannot be put out by conventional means. And, middle class buyers are not able to afford new battery packs for these vehicles. There is much potential for these cars, but IMHO, there use is limited until the above issues can be successfully addressed.

There are still plenty of 2012 and 2013 Tesla Model S on the road today (a neighbor of mine daily drives his still), replacing batteries isn't as much of a concern as you might think. I'm not sure of Rivian's warranty, but Tesla offers 8 years/120k mile warranty I believe, which I think shows their confidence in the parts. The average American replaces their vehicle every 5-6 years which is much shorter than the warranty on the battery. I don't even think ICE vehicles offer warranties as long as Tesla does for their batteries generally. My ICE vehicle didn't even have a powertrain warranty as long as Tesla covers their batteries lol, I think it was around 5 years/100k miles.
@ed80186 ай бұрын
Yeah I hear the common concerns about EVs and as an EV owner I honestly think they're exaggerated. My EV is about 6 years old now and it's still going strong. Very reliable. I have never thought about range or battery fires or how expensive it was. Do I wish it were cheaper? Sure. Do I feel like I overpaid? Nope. It's the best car I've ever driven. It's been worth the money. And it pretty quickly convinced me that I'm never going back to ICE vehicles if I can help it. The one gripe I do agree with is the tires wear out faster than on ICE vehicles. And that's annoying. But overall I am very much looking forward to the R2 as my next vehicle.

Tesla made a huge mistake opening up their Supercharger network to competitors, giving away their competitive advantage of the largest most reliable coast to coast charging network. Even a Tesla owner like myself would go Rivian or Porsche now that they're getting NACs charging.
@CowboysKeith5 ай бұрын
That's the only reason I'm here entertaining the idea of a non-Tesla as our next EV. Supercharging my Tesla hasn't been an issue but with 3rd parties and placement of their charging ports, that can easily become a problem.
@xQuandaleDinglex3 ай бұрын
A mistake for them? I'm sure they took a long, hard look at their network and decided it was the best move. And it is. It's better to have more options when charging your vehicle. Rivians will soon charge with both CCS and NACS. You're gonna have a lot more charging stations to choose from. And it won't be on Tesla to do all the work to maintain an open standard.
@TheLionThing2 ай бұрын
I don't think it's a mistake for them financially. They make money every time a Rivian, Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes, etc. charges, and that will add up quickly (my own assessment, I'm not an expert). That said, it's definitely going to make Superchargers a lot less pleasant to use; they can already get quite full. They need to build out more of them. I’m afraid to buy this car because I’m gonna have to replace its engine of warranty in about 15 years. That’s how you sound. They complete nothing. Most batteries perform above expectations for 10 to 15 years. Most warranties are 8 to 10 years. Incredibly rare to have anything wrong with your battery besides an act of god. It’s basically using a gas car in those situations. I’m sure you’re gonna follow up with how EV’s blow up. Even though that’s just as rare or happens even less then gas cars catching fire. I understand how scary new technology can be there should be concerned, but don’t overexaggerate..

There are plenty of other people out there with decades of experience in the car business. They're all saying the same thing. It's a matter of time before Rivian goes bust. It's a cool-looking car and it looks to be quality made. However that doesn't change the fact that they are losing tons of money and have no plan to reverse that. Some of their manufacturing plans have been put on hold. And word in the automotive field is that it's not temporarily on hold. It's permanent.

@@smarticus6384 let me put this in context for your. I have a 2015 ford Fusion with 77,000 miles. Does it sound that old? Not really, but it’s almost 10 years old and out of warranty by now. Now let’s say anything other than the transmission or engine breaks it’s probably going to be $500-$1500 to fix. Now let’s say the engine blows, a used one may be 4 or 5K to put in, now let’s say the transmission goes out maybe 3 or 4K. In all likelihood these things won’t happen either for another 5-10 years at such low mileage per year. Because engines don’t degrade like batteries do. Now let’s say I bought a 2012 Tesla Model S instead like an idiot. After a decade the batteries got old or are about to fail. Well I just googled the price and I found an invoice in a forum. “the price, clearly stated on the invoice, is $20,000 for the battery alone. In fact, I get $20,333.80 for parts alone, plus whatever labor would really have been.”

It's going to be a very slim chance that they make it to 2026.. The price wars are starting. Competition will only increase. Range is nowhere near stated, especially under heavy load. Used Teslas going for dirt cheap when people realize ev does not meet their needs. Ford can't sell a lightning if their life depended on it. Insurance companies are gearing up to give EV owners an ass reaming on premiums. NO one wants to repair them, manufacturers don't want to bother selling parts to repair them. Junk yards don't want them and their fire insurance is pricing the junkyards from accepting them. Other than that.... Evs are cool, quiet and fast.. Choose wisely, or not.

What is gained by no Apple Car Play on any Rivian model? Cost savings? How much per car?

Reserved mine as soon as I learned it was coming! The biggest thing I'm curious about though is the quality of the sound system...such an audiophile that really does make or break a car for me. Fingers crossed!

From what I heard Rivian doesn't sound very well!

@@RaitisRides Wasn't too impressed with our friends' R1S...hopefully Rivian realized it needed some improvement!

Just wish those headlights would finally be vertical. The current design is just as iconic as it is goofy looking. I did like most other choices they made with this vehicle. You mentioned that the storage capacity would remain the same, even with the tri-motor version but I'm wondering if that remains true with the larger battery option. It's nice that they gave you the price for the cheapest version but I'd really like to know the cost of the highest spec option.

I reserved my spot already! I'm excited, it will be my family's first EV. Saving up for a big down payment by buying Rivian stock in the meantime.

If Rivian wants to remain relevant, they better release this car next year. 2026 might be too late.

What about the flashlight? The side window pop out? I know there's no air pump or Bluetooth speaker like R1S. Very Nice SUV.

Joe, you are the best. I wish you have the same energy when you are 100 years old.

This R2 will bring a ton of people to the Rivian fan club. I really wish they'd offer a small 3rd row option for the R2. I know it is picky, but with little kids, it would be nice to be able to move their little buddies around without having them bounce around the cargo area. The R2 with that small-bench 3rd row option would have its way with my bank account.

Are they going to put more power sockets other than just the USB-C? It would be nice to have. It would be nice to have at least one or two 12V (cigarette lighter style) plugs. That is the one complain on my R1S (only has one in the back) -- and I did not see any in the R2....

I don't think most people care for the R2. The R3 is what we are all waiting for. The R3X specifically

Rivian is doing a nice job of keeping the brand identity of the original while evolving it just a bit. I like the angularity of the design, pretty bold in the styled-like-a-bar-of-soap current EV space. Let's hope the $45K is real and not some fake future price of a vaporware model that Rivian never actually produces. I'm guessing that a big-battery tri-motor will be pushing well into the mid $70k range. I wonder if Lucas Films needed to clear the R2 name. I was looking for C3PO to pop out of the frunk there at one point. And that steering wheel in action is starting to look like a giant video game controller. Are they doing a truck off this chassis too. A smallish, crew cab truck based on this platform might just be a hit too. That smallish truck market is starting to heat up.

A light weight and less expensive 2 door T version that will fit into my garage and budget would be really nice. A solar bed cover would be the cherry on top!
