I have a 2003 CDTi with already 440.000 km on the clock. Engine is superb, slightly tuned to 170bhp and still no oil leaks to be found! Riding is absolutely fantastic, it is very comfortable, more comfortable than my S-type! Strangely enough I had two failures on the front springs (although being quality springs) over the years, had to change the clutch once with master cilinder and the weak front bushes have been replaced already for the third time. Interiorwise the sun visor came loose at one point, the third braking light failed and the pillar lining starts to come loose. Also there is a water ingress through the rear window into the boot. This has to be tackled one day. In conclusion: I already owned 43 cars so far, this one being the best car ever! Keep on driving these beautiful cars!

I'm 45 .when I was 25 the local taxi firm used to use them .I was was impressed then back from the club I used to allways used to say to the drive .gorgeous car that and they all said it was the best taxi they ever had.I recently bought a 2004 tourer diesel last year with no service history with 149 thou on the clock fully loaded at a auction for 450 quid .iv since put 20 thousand on the clock and it hasent missed a beat .apart from fixing a drivers electric window and a new key fob battery and a new back box .all came in at 150 squid .I can honestly say this is the best car iv ever owned .And of course it looks gorgeous and is so bastard comfortable I don't want to get out .I'm not generally sentimental about cars and see them as boxes to get to A to b .but I love my rover 75 more than my wife.

my first car was a rover 75, i gave it to my older brother one day so he could drive to work, 1 hour later my mom came to me and said he had an accident... he crashed my car with 70 kmh into an mercedes. he never apologized or give me money. he said it was my fault to give him my car. i hate him from this day on.

I owned quite a few Rovers, from a Montego to owning a Rover 216s , 2 x Rover 600s petrol and diesel,. 2 x Rover 75s . Loved all although my Montego had some reiliability issues. However the 75s were my best and even now after 4 years on not owning, even today when I see one on the road they have presence and still look beautiful 👌

I have the exact same car, bought it at 115.000 km, now at 175.000 km, my problems in the span of 3 years Crankshaft pulley Slave cylinder ac compressor tie rods 4 stabilizer links crankshaft oil seal battery battery positive cable abs sensors (still not fixed) Gearbox linkage cable Power steering pump radiator fan that does not work (only thing I havent replaced, only ac on motorway) and many many other things that I don't even remember, this car has left me stranded 3 times, once was my own fault for not changing the aux belt on time It is a great and comfortable car to drive, but the fact that u had 0 problems truly surprises me. I'm sure that's why BMW bought Rover in the first place to get rid of the competition nothing else.
@johnbrereton5229

@its all greek to Me BA asset stripped rover and they were forced into a partnership with Honda which proved to be very beneficial as Rover built some great cars like the 800 and 600 that were starting to compete with BMW. It was only then that BMW became interested, after they took over it damaged Rovers relationship with Honda. BMW even undermined Rover 75 sales at its launch and later asset stripped it themselves keeping the Mini and the Rover mid range car that became the BMW 1series. They then broke up Rover selling Range Rover to Ford for more than they paid for the whole company and keeping the best manufacturing sites. What was left of Rover was now no longer viable and it was only a matter of time before it collapsed. BMW ended up making a nice profit on their initial small investment while keeping two succesful ranges and at the sane time removing a competitor from the market place. All just by accident ?
@johnbrereton5229
@johnbrereton5229 3 жыл бұрын
@its all greek to Me Who claimed the 75 would be sold in a BMW garages? I certainly didn't, and I was referring to Rover as a marque not just this one model the 75. What I said was that BMW removed the rising competition of the Rover marque from the marketplace . How else can you explain the fact that they wouldn't allow Lotus to take over the development of Rovers advanced K series engine? This could have seen a Lotus/Rover collaboration like the very successful Lotus/Ford cortina. Why would BMW turn down such an offer? Also as I pointed out earlier why undermine sales of the 75 at its launch ? And these are just a couple of their actions that show BMW motivations were not honourable.

I bought a low (25k genuine) miles ZT-T 190 2.5L KV6 for £500, did the belts as a precaution & have put 40k miles extra on the clock, all driven with spirit. It does 27-28mpg no matter how it is driven, but I admit it can do (did it once tank full to tank full) 35mpg, but what's the point. Magnificent car, with sharp roadholding and handling. Stiffer suspension and slight lower gearing than the R75. My best car since the Mk1 MG Midget I had 45 years ago, even better than a string of Minis (the proper ones).

I had the 75 Connoisseur Tourer diesel auto, and it was a gorgeous, relaxed car to drive, including a holiday in Croatia! Being the diesel, just check the plenum drains at the bulkhead, because if they’re blocked, the space behind fills up with water, and drowns the ecu. The car was never the same after that!

I bought one yesterday , a 2.5 V6 engine. I can't afford the V8 engine version , but at least it is as close to the exhaust note you can get! I am glad I took the plunge , I had the 2.0 diesel 75 a few years ago. I promised myself a V8 engine version back then but I am glad I got the 2.5 V6. It was your first video about your 75 that kick started me to look for another 75. I had one on a deposit , because of lock down I couldn't pick it up. The guy said when I phoned him after lock down its been scrapped. At least I got my money back! That one was a 1.8 turbo , I was wondering about head gasket failure. I hope my 2.5 V6 doesn't get head gasket failure. Anyway cheers for the video and I hope you have another year's pleasure out of your car!

I agree with everything you said about your75. I recently bought my 2000 1.8 Classic SE and am thrilled with it! My old PT Cruiser finally lost its head gasket unexpectedly, forcing a hurried car search. I found Lagetha on Facebook Markets locally at £950, and after a quick inspection of the car and its history 71000 miles, FSH to 56K, head gasket replaced at 59K, I negotiated a price of £800 - mostly on the strength that every tyre was over 10 years old and showing serious cracking. Of course there s a snag list of small items that need attention, but I fell I'm the custodian of an appreciating asset, rather than a money-pit. Keep up the good work!

Great video review, i feel I should own one of these as they are very much my kind of car. They are at that awkward age when they are old but not yet considered classic, this keeps them cheap and I’m sure there are plenty of bargains. Choosing between models is a challenge, that tourer looks amazing too, not many estate cars that I’d say that about.

Happy to see you like it. I'll eventually extend my park with a pre-project Connie, but feel depressed driving my ZT; it's really dark inside and the high panels do give a "prisoned" feel. Hope the 75's bright interior is better.

I have had my rover 75 connoisseur se cdti tourer it’s a 2004. It is quite honestly the best car I have owned we have had a s type Jaguar the build quality is now where near the quality of the rover. I have owned ours for 10 years and spent £200 on it so what more can I say. Once it had been stood over a period of three weeks in December when we went on holiday. We had had wether of down to -18 and one turn of the key she fired straight into life. 100% if you want a good quality well made car buy a rover 75! They are absolutely brilliant. 100% i would only buy a Rover 75 connoisseur 2.0 cdti. Brilliant cars I have had a 2.0 v6 a 2.5 v6 I didn’t keep the Petrol ones just because of the running costs. They are just brilliant cars that’s all I can say!

These cars are truly underrated. But that's why they can be had for so cheap. I have a 2,5 almost fully optioned, sunroof, harman/kardon, rear electric blind, auto transmission, memory electric front seats, all that. British Racing Green with the green / beige leather interior, wooden steering wheel, stock BMW satnav system, etc. Got it from the first owner, very detailed service history, 170k kms then, 185k now after about two years of ownership. Most people - even the car guy friends I have - said I'm stupid to get one of these, it will break down, will have all sorts of problems, Rover's engines are crap, etc etc. I was also a bit afraid, but the father of a good friend of mine also had one and told me not to be too afraid. So I went ahead and got it after several BMWs (E46 320i, E46 330i, E39 528i). To be honest, it feels even more put together than these BMWs I had, those were in similarly great condition, too. The quality control on these was really strict when they were made, and that does show, all gaps are pristine, even and very thin, materials are very nice all over the exterior and interior, the 2,5 KV6 engine roars in a very characteristic tone, it is much sportier than what you'd expect from this sort of car - not the auto tranny, though, that's quite a lazy unit, but suits the car that way. I use my 75 mostly for longer trips, had multiple 1000km+ tours in it, always kept me in comfort with the cruise control, dual zone auto a/c, heated seats and the great sound system. Every trip is a joy and a relaxing experience, but whenever I feel like getting some driving enjoyment, I kick down and hear the V6 roar like a sports car. Yep, parts can be a bit hard to acquire where I live (I had to order some things from the UK, which can take time), a good mechanic that knows what he's doing on these is also hard to come by, but if you can live with that, the reliability and running costs of these are about on par with similarly aged Mercedes and BMWs. And my bet is on this one - it does feel better put together than those rivals, and has that Jaguar-like vibe to it that makes it way more special.

I just want one that is not going to break down on me so I have to decide where and how to buy. Despite the criticisms that have been leveled at the K-series engine , concerning its head gasket, it appeals to me more than the BMW diesel. My Mother has got a 75 , had it from new . Its done 70k miles and has gone through two of the K series engines in its time , both with cylinder head problems . apart from that the car drives like new but.... its small, cramped , claustrophobic with enormous screen pillars , hiding the cyclist coming from the side roads , its just not in the same league as my own Rover 800 . Now thats a car ! up there with the 7 series Beamers and jags . In fact , mine is the Vitesse 200 hp turbo and everything about the car is much more modern and the controls , specificly the clutch , being far easier than the 75 . Clarkson was right when he said that the 75 was so old fashioned at launch, it ought to have had a thatched roof . Today, My mum told me to collect her car and fix the headlining that has fallen down completely and just shows how poorly the thing was made .

When I got my 2.5 V6 75 I was apprehensive about the engine size, coming from much smaller engined cars but it was the only one I could find with all the specifications I wanted (everything!). I really wanted the diesel. However eighteen months later I’m pleased I got this one, so smooth to drive. 30mpg average isn’t terrible either, although I do envy those diesel figures.

I bought a 2.5 V6 this week and was too apprehensive about the engine size. Everything I've had is 2.8 and above (most of those are capable of 30+ mpg, even though all are older than this, going back to the late 70s in some examples). Doesn't have the low down torque I'm used to but still the refinemnt of a 6 cylinder in preference to 4.

I’ve had my black Connoisseur SE CDT for 11 years. Bought at 63k and now has 152k. It’s been a great servant. An important piece of advice from Rover 75 owners club, is to regularly check the plenum drain hole is clear. If it starts filling up with rainwater (mine did) you can have major issues, as this is where the electrical control unit is housed.

I would like the same one just to keep in a garage as a future "classic". Rover was knocked at every turn, yet they did some great cars. I currently use a 1.8 K-series freelander (yes, that engine) the previous owner suffered all the bad times, over heating and electrical issues. They had all the work done properly (which had rover done in the first pla e they would still be around) The freelander is a perfect family car, load logger (750kg logs inside), tourer, fun off reader, kids first drive and when swept out and polished a nice car for the wife (heated seats, screen, aircon and nice sound system. £500 for you rover was worth it, you can save the extra cash now to buy another rover.....may I suggest a 2005 freelander 1.8 HSE (you could change the engine and put in the more powerful 130 hp from an old mgf).....or a 2001 MGF

I believe this car will be a sought after classic in years to come. It was a great car widely regarded as one of the best Rovers and the last ever Rover in fact it was the last British designed and built saloon. It represents the end of an era its the penultimate result of the British Motor industry.

Always loved the P series classic Rovers, and after the era of poorer quality, more mundane cars from the SD1 through to the 800S, it's a sad irony that the company ended just as they had finally turned the corner and produced this, possibly the best car they ever made.

Very good review. That engine is actually more reliable than the KV6, a real workhorse, but the auto box kills the fun in these cars. The best is the cdti with 136hp, but a remap would do wonders on yours.

It’s a great shame people didn’t realise that Rovers are good cars, we are a country of sheep, need a BMW, Mercedes, etc etc… why. My dad had a Rover 620GSI, he had it for over 10 years and only scrapped it as part became harder to find, no dealer or service network, had over 120,000 miles on it and no rust. Fully kitted out, looked much better than a Ford mondo. Great car mate,

Well done for moving away from a sterile modern Mercedes. The 75 really is a way to travel for the price of a few monthly payments on a sterile A Class or 1 series. It looks really clean and you bought well with those rear suspension arms being replaced. How about the 160 bhp X power remap? My first 2 diesels were a little sedate but my current one with the map and autobox really forges ahead without much pressure on the accelerator.

Unfortunately, the diesel engine really isn't a good match for the auto box which does tend to make it labour quite a lot. The BMW diesel tends to be more revvy and less low-down torquey than a lot of diesels from the period, but the auto seems to like keeping the engine revs down, which makes the engine lug more than it likes. A manual diesel with the higher power engine is actually a quicker car than the performance figures would make you think and can still easily match the official mpg figures. I haven't driven a lower power diesel so I can't comment on one of those, but they do seem to be very rare anyway so you're not too likely to find one. Interestingly, the low power diesels do seem to be more troublesome than the higher power cars too, maybe because the engine isn't really working hard enough to keep itself blown out and relatively clean inside... A local company that does chauffeur-driven hire cars for companies and the like ran diesel 75s for pretty much their entire lifespan and retired cars out with over 300,000 miles up without any major issues. They were, of course, maintained on the dot and right up to the mark, which is vital, but they were really pretty cheap to run and certainly a lot better than the German replacements. I drove a few of their retired cars and you'd have had trouble saying they'd done 30,000 miles, let alone 330,000. The drivers absolutely loved them too...

Hey mate wonered if i could pick your brains and ask for some help. How could i contact you. Ive had rovers since i passed my test. Got ill with ms so my mgzt190 manual went and got an auto merc ml. But not for long missed my rovers so now have same colour as yours rover 75 conneseur se 2.5 v6 auto tourer. 51 plate done 74000. Love her. Need a bit of of help though. A few things main being was told when i got the car gold serviced day of purchase that had a crack in 1engine mount and other things cosmetic. Cd changer wont read discs. Changed but id like to have original stereo. Like a replacement driver seat its black with grey piping leather and a weird one my window sprayer stopped working although the motor is still making the same sound. Ive got problems with my back and cant afford hourly rate of garages and mot due end November. Dont want to part with car. I love it. All the other luxeries work a treat. Being on disability money and having this awful desease changed my life all ive left is i can still drive and i want to do it in this lovely classic. That v6 pulls lovely especialy being the tourer seeing less and less of those. If you can help or give me any advice mate or even kbow someone with one your shape who wants a trade for a v6 tourer let me know, thankyou sean
