Hi Flora, another advocate for Tailwind here. It also provides electrolytes so takes the worry of another thing away. Just keep sipping the tailwind and you're covered for hydration, calories and electrolytes. The flavours are also very mild so it doesn't get sickly sweet like a lot of sports drinks.

I tried Lucho Dillitos on your recommendation from a video about a year ago, my god it's delicious! (I have the guava/raspberry one). Really nice hit of sweet and energy, I love them. Unfortunately I made the mistake of leaving out my stash when my father in law came over to paint our conservatory. He had 3 (!!) of them one afternoon and commented how nice they were. I was gutted he snaffled them and promptly brought him his own stash! (he has a stoma bag and finds it hard to digest/eat certain foods so these have also been a really good sugar find for him). I love Soreen on a normal day but can't stand it during a race, I find it too claggy (which is a shame, I do love it!). I may have to try it again. One other thing i've found I really do enjoy during a run are biscuits! I've tried coconut ones and ginger ones so far and they do me well (I just wrap them in a bit of foil so they don't get soggy) 🍪🍪 I've heard really good things about ActiveRoot (esp the Ginger one as you also said) but not tried it myself so far. I may investigate that tho :) x

Thanks for your insights Flora, I am intrigues by the Nuhru products for all the good reasons you mentioned and I will give them a test run. I do make my own 'rice balls' for energy on the go, ( because I am thrifty to a fault ) and they are quite simple though you have inspired me to find another way to wrap them other than parchment paper. Great food for thought in the video!

Some great ideas there Flora, thank you 🙂 I'm a big fan of Mountain Fuel. Most of their products are vegan friendly, but their packaging could definitely be better. However, they use jellies instead of gels and (in my opnion) they are MUCH better! Nicer flavours but most impostantly they are not sticky and they don't make my tummy feel jippy. I would recommend them to anyone to try if you don't like gels.

Hey Flora and Tia :), you do look wonderful :). Loved this, thank you. Such important hard earned knowledge as no matter how well your fitness is going, nutrition issues and your stomach can level you upsettingly quickly. Still trying to work mine out as event day or normal anxieties can change something that has worked ok for months. Love your advice as always and how we can be more ethical and responsible with packaging. Drinking my calories with tailwind was a godsend in Croatia, especially as the heat made me fancy food even less. In training I’ve often tried home baked things which are lovely, but then end up feeling like I need to secure it in plastic anyway as I don’t know what I can use instead. Even though I always reuse it for multiple runs 🙈. With your active root and Lucio dillitos, have you ever tried or heard of crystallised ginger? Heard someone mention it the other day and they loved it. With the tailwind as well, would they be able to supply you with sufficient levels of electrolytes as well as the calories? Would you ever consider a race relying on this mostly, instead of solid food (even though you can easily use solid food) just to see whether it may help with your hands? Almost like an experiment
@FloraBeverley
@FloraBeverley Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jack! Yes I think it's very common for race day nerves to wreck havoc with digestion, but the more races you do where you can practise (even Parkrun?) the better. So glad Tailwind worked for you! I must get my hands on some. And I think so long as you're reusing your plastic it's not such an issue, so don't worry! It's so convenient as we know. I adore crystallised ginger, but wouldn't dare having it when running - it burns haha! I forgot Tailwind has electrolytes too - how useful. I would definitely consider a race with Tailwind alone, but not sure what scenario would call for it. Perhaps a faster race where poles are vital so I don't have time/the ability to get food out. Worth a try!
@JackBrady

@@FloraBeverley Thanks Flora :), practise makes perfect. Sounds like it could really help if I started entering multiple smaller ones as training for my A-races, which I still don’t know why I haven’t so far. Thanks Flora, I really hope it works for you too. The only annoying thing if you’re really going for it and racing, is it can be a bit fiddly and slow if you’re on a long enough run, when you get to checkpoints and making the new mixes with fresh water. I was always very happy to have a breather when I needed to refill though haha so I was ok with that :). Ooh hadn’t thought of the burn haha! Not ideal then 😂.

Thank you for the video! Going on a side track here… would you be able to do a video \ instagram post on running etiquette? I’m mostly a road runner and have noticed that when there are others runners coming in the opposite direction it can sometimes get confusing onto which side of the pavement/path to run on. I would assume that you kept left and pass on the right? Also if you’re running on the actual road where there isn’t a path, do you run towards traffic or with traffic? I would think towards traffic so you can see the cars approaching… Thank you!! 😊
@FloraBeverley
@FloraBeverley Жыл бұрын
Heya! Good question and I'm going to answer it here (though may do a post about it in future). Generally, run on the left, although I've found runners much more understanding than other members of the public, so don't worry too much if you get it wrong. When you're on the road, run into traffic (on the right in the UK). Only exception to this IMO is when there's a big bend - I find it better to run on the outside of the bend so you can see any cars. When overtaking runners, just give them a wide berth and it won't matter which side you pass on (though I think I usually do right). Hope that helps a little? Happy running! :)

Hey! Love your content:) just to say (also for the viewers), you should never throw anything on the side of a trail, not even fruit peels or compostable packaging etc. (the waste is not native to the environment). These things can still take a couple of months to decompose (and longer at higher altitudes) and one thing to bear in mind when enjoying nature should be to always leave no trace!
@FloraBeverley
@FloraBeverley Жыл бұрын
Good point about higher altitudes - also relevant at colder temps! Totally agree with leave no trace, though of course things do sometimes fall out of packs, and better a leaf than a gel wrapper.

@FloraBeverley
@FloraBeverley Жыл бұрын
I don't actually, I'm not sure how interesting, or long a video it would be! Basically I was pescetarian from the age of 4 because I never liked the taste of meat, and it makes me physically ill, so it was easy to give up. Then I started uni and studied biology, including marine biology, and learned about how unsustainable the modern day fishing industry is. I gave up fish because of that. Then my partner and I just decided to go vegan around the same time, because the commercial dairy industry also isn't something I'd like to partake in. Since I stopped eating animal products I now find the taste weird, e.g. dairy just tastes bitter and salty to me now! So vegan food it is 🙌 and I haven't found it has negatively impacted my life in any way, so I think why not make a difference where I can 😊
