I strongly don't recommend the thumbnail of 'open mouthed expression of shock' - there are better thumbnails. It gives an impression of (forgive me for being blunt) too emotional. A relaxed smile or really anything that does not depict the open-mouth shocked look would be better. I am leaving this comment to help; I never watch those videos because my expectation is set low for what's in the video. I fully suspect your intellect greatly exceeds the impression that kind of thumbnail makes, as growing 195k following - not easy. Good luck to you, and again, apologies, but a 'vacant, emotional look of shock' is likely beneath you. Cheers.

While the tips you give are solid, can I just compliment you on your video editing skills. Maybe you outsource it but whoever edits these videos is a master. I notice so many details that are so well done for maximum engagement. I'm betting you have a much lower drop-off rate on your videos than the average KZbinr. Kudos!

Thank you! Really appreciate it 😊 This video was all done by myself - I've found that it's very hard to outsource it to someone who will "get it right" so learning this craft has definitely paid off well. Something I'd recommend other KZbinrs to doo as well.

Great vid! Love the fact that you point out not just SaaS user acquisition strategies but the stages they should be applied to. Many early-stage SaaS Founders use paid ads or content in the beginning stages & wonder why the user acquisition is so costly/slow & yet doesn't produce results. Whereas if they started with outreach & made an irresistible offer (that compensates for lack of social proof & features), they would gain traction faster & prepare for more advanced strategies at later stages.

Oh man, I'm at the 0-5 users stage and I'm quickly realising some mistakes I've made. Thanks for this video! These 'roadmap' formats really help identifyfy the critical action to take at each stage (and what to say no to) For those curious, the mistake: I made an initial MVP and signed up to many 'early users' to try the product (almost 50+) It was difficult to get feedback from all of them and very few actually replied back (on email) Luckily I stuck to also messaging people 1-1 on FB messenger but I know there are 50 copies of my V0.1 product that's gathering digital dust somewhere.

Great video and strategy. Best value out there. However I'm skeptical on the 5-100 users stage. Do you really think the first 5 users (and the followings) will attract up to 100 users? It seems very easy to get stuck on the 5 first users if they don't become your "ambassadors".

Hi Simon, What are your thoughts on an agency coming into a SaaS company to build out growth infrastructure for them at a one-time fee? This includes cold emails, LinkedIn outbound, lead magnets, landing page optimization, increasing the free-to-paid conversion ratio, retention, and referral. Essentially, building out a comprehensive funnel and delivering it to them.

Hi Simon, I have been watching your videos for a few months already and I have a question about collecting payments: Services like Paddle also handle invoicing and tax handling worldwide. This includes collecting, reporting, and remitting taxes in every country from which the end-users originate. Stripe does not do this (or does it?). How do you handle e.g. remitting taxes worldwide? I don't know why but everytime I see your thumbails I just don't want to click them, they feels like scam. I click them just because I know this is a high quality channel. It will be interesting to make an a/b testing for KZbin thumbnails. A: serious and genuine face B: clickbaity, mouth open, mrbeast style, etc.. I could be wrong but I bet A will perform better since your target are software engineers and in general a more mature audience.
@SimonHoiberg Жыл бұрын
I actually love this comment 😁 You bet I have A/B tested this, and the more "clickbaity" (I wouldn't exactly use that word) thumbnails always tend to perform better. Right now, this thumbnail has a 11% CTR, which is around the standard I'm looking for. If my thumbnail goes below 5% in the first 7 days, I always swap it. There's a reason why so many thumbnails look like this. It has been broadly studied, and there are certain elements that seem to perform better across all audiences and niches. So I am very confident that version B would perform better, also among more "mature" audiences. Additionally (this is my conjecture) - I bet that a thumbnail like this subconsciously works better on you too 😉 (even if you consciously think you dislike it). Thank you for the feedback, though! It is always very welcomed 🙏

It's important to remember that in practice, there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. If you dive into Lenny's newsletters on this topic, you'll see there's a whole world of different ways top companies got their first users. From going to your users online and offline, to getting press, creating FOMO and building a community -- depends on the product and the situation. Good strategy is not about copying universal recipes, it's about leveraging YOUR specific sources of power to overcome YOUR specific key obstacles. Thanks for the video though, it's a good jumping-off point!
