I love all three of my sBitxs, DE, V2, and V3. I keep waiting for software updates but they are few and far between, still I love it.

I’m really considering a second sBitx!

I think this is the future of ham radios - having a PC within them - so that all digital modes can be run from the radio without and external computer. Logging into the radio is also very useful. The Xiegu X6100 has similar capabilities. Good to see Farhan following/setting the trend. This could be a great radio for FreeDV (HF digital voice) work. 73 Ed DD5LP.

Ed, I totally agree. I’ve had an X6100 and really enjoyed that radio as well. It’s going to be fun to see what the future brings in new radio innovations, hopefully more and more of this merging of radio and PC tech.

I’m on the fence about getting one. The fact that the raspberry pi is integrated is really a neat feature. Have you looked into installing Vara AC HF? Just started with digital modes, so if the vara modem could be loaded that would sweeten the choice of buying the rig. Anyway, thanks for posting the video, 73 N3BIL
@propagating-radio5 күн бұрын
It’s a fun radio. I haven’t tried installing Vara AC yet. That would be a cool addition to the rig. This one is a Version 2 and FLDigi was a little flaky. But the newest version hopefully has that sorted out.

I am intrigued. As a linux user. When the digital modes are configured is there a "builtin" audio and serial device that is used? Obviously there isn't anything plugged into the side? Or maybe the Rpi has a pi hat on it that does th audio and PTT? more likely
@propagating-radio7 ай бұрын
Yes, the audio and CAT control are done internally. Already having a background in Linux will surely help with this radio. There is a good Facebook page called “sBitx” and also a Groups.io group called “BITX20”. Lots of great people doing some interesting hacking/developing of the SBitx.

Thx so much for sharing this video on the sbitx! Your rig setup is the 1st one I have seen where someone runs a separate set of wires into the case to power the sbitx. Can you share your experience on powering your sbitx? Are you just running the wires to the internal contacts where that xt60 connector is attached? voltage range you are using to drive those wires? :) Appreciate it! --DJ KF0QZB 73

Will it run JS8CALL? I didn't see it on the drop down list. 73 Gerald KG0VA
@propagating-radio6 ай бұрын
It will. The screen isn’t really optimized for that one yet though. So it’s kind of a hassle. I didn’t add it on again when I went to the V3 software.
@chrisharris53279 ай бұрын
I purchased one of the V2s at the first release. I found it missing some basics. I don't think it's ready for "prime time"
@propagating-radio9 ай бұрын
Maybe they addressed those issues with the V3?

The v3 is pretty awesome, lots of missing features addressed.

I experienced lots of noise and whistles from a RPi next to my radio, how is this performing from that perspective?
@propagating-radio8 ай бұрын
There are some “birdies” on the bands. That may be caused by the RPi. It may be an interesting experiment to add some shielding to the receiver and/or Pi and check the results.
@propagating-radio8 ай бұрын
Aside from that though, the receiver performs very well and is quiet.

Was trying to figure out what software you added? Mine came loaded with all the same software.
@propagating-radio9 ай бұрын
I couldn’t get FLDigi (version 4.0) that came with the radio to do some of the FLMsg things I wanted. Ad for whatever reason I couldn’t update that software or delete it. So I added a newer version of FLDigi that would integrate with FLMsg.

Does this rig have a Noise Rejection function? If yes, how good is it? Thanks for the video and 73.

?

Currently there is not a noise reduction function. Something may be in the works down the road though.

Before you tilted it and show its size and depth, I thought it was as deep as a microwave oven hi hi hi

Haha. It’s not very deep at all. Excluding the knobs it’s only 2 inches, or about 5 cm, deep.

Is it v2 or v3? Did you tried CW?
@propagating-radio9 ай бұрын
This one is a V2. Even though I’m primarily a CW op I haven’t used it on CW yet. I’ve heard there can be a delay in the first transmitted letter so I’ll have to see what I can do with that.

I really like mine. I have tried it with a 3b and a 4, both work. The case reminds me of an old Lloyd AM/FM my grandma kept on her fridge. Great for POTA with a couple of 10KmAh 3s drone batteries, and a cheap at-100 tuner clone.
@propagating-radio9 ай бұрын
I had to look that Lloyd up. It does have that same type of look. I’m very impressed by this SBitx. I do plan to try it portable and for POTA. Great size for it. And I just recently picked up an ATU-100. Perfect combo!
@Doonit_hard_way_since_659 ай бұрын
@@propagating-radio From the tapped screw holes in the rear cover, I would guess there are plans to make a tuner, and a battery holder. Or at least give us an easy option to attach some of our own creation. Great little radio.
