If possible, try and actually get your hands on both radios to see how they work for you. Putting hands on the actually radios would be a huge help in seeing what works for you. That’s not always an option, I know. It wasn’t an option for me at the time.

@propagating-radio Yeah, I was pretty set on the dx10 but after seeing the menus it might be aggravating. I have been running the FT 990, many years old. The Kenwood seems to have a nice layout of the controls.

@@jayKQ4DUXthere is a fairly involved menu system, using Yaesu’s not-so-intuitive menu structure. Kenwood’s controls are laid out well and you’ll rarely need to change a menu item. The DX10 is definitely a great radio, with excellent noise reduction and weak signal reception. Personally, depending on the situation, I enjoyed using the Kenwood more.

Does losing 3db using the 590 splitter feature for a laptop waterfall mean a weak signal would be 3db weaker and maybe no longer heard when the option is turned on?

That’s a good question. I’ll have to investigate that some. I would think (hope?) that since the entire incoming signal is “attenuated” just turning on the preamp would compensate for that.

Im assuming you figured out you can turn on the CW keyer to ON. If your in other modes. Like SSB and your CW key/s to key up and tune your amplifier or ATU.

I have both (TS590S) and I love both - Kenwood build and ergonomics beat the FTdx10 hands down. Receiver and DNR on the Yaesu is in a league of its own. Would love to see Kenwood do more but Ham Radio is a limited global market. I'd really like the 890 and be happy with it as an ornament just to look at hi hi! 73 Mike

I agree Mike. Kenwood really nailed the ergonomics on the TS-590. I would also love to see Kenwood release more ham equipment. I see their new HT is coming soon but I’m more interested in the HF side of radio.

I have the Yaesu but have found i don't have much use for the waterfall feature.

I can understand the feeling. I like being able to quickly see a station, or an empty spot, on a band. But I will often miss a weak station entirely if I only rely on the waterfall.

That's crazy it's so easy to fry the Yaesu with the DVI and the USB ports.

Wold be nice if you can do a comparison like this: - Use external, equal loudspeaker, on each transceiver. - Use a Antenna switch. - Switch each 5 second, between A and B transceiver. - Switch during the same station is talking. - Use the same settings on each transceiver (BW, GAIN, FILTER...) - Don't talk yourself during the test. - Cut out in the video, for to search stations. Makes me sad that kenwood hadnt updated the 590. I love having all the buttons on the ftont instead of a touch screen with menus. But the dx10 is just better over all.

It's OPTIONAL to improve the frequency drift on the 590 in todays market? Insanity. I was getting quite interested in it until then. I'm currently looking for reasons to not get the FTDX10, but not finding any. Good overview of features and things to think about. Damn shame about the frequency drift of the 590 though - I saw it was quite bad in another video (100 Hz or more).

I totally agree. It should be standard equipment. The DX10 is a pretty amazing radio. My Elmer just bought one and was shocked at how sensitive the receiver is, and how well it pulls in weak signals.

The audio is incredibly low on this video. Impossible to hear without headphones.

I have not been able to get used to it for 4 years of using the TS-590SG. and largely disagree with you. very harsh audio that I couldn't stand. as a result, I changed it to IC-7300 and now I am satisfied. Now I am considering purchasing FTDX10 and your video is very useful for me. 95% QSO CW. 73 de RW9RN

Thanks for watching. I haven’t had that issue with noticeably harsh audio. But I have used the 7300 quite a bit and it sounds fantastic. I see why it has a large following. It’s a great rig. My gripes about the FTDX10 are likely largely based on my own preferences in transceivers. I do wish Yaesu would change a couple things but overall it’s a great performer. Which is why I can’t bring myself to part with it, even though I bought the 590 to replace it. I really appreciate you sharing this comment, even as a disagreement. @@propagating-radio Adam, maybe I just love Yaesu :) now I have ft2k for home use, ft891 for summer cottage, ic7300 as backup and QCX for work /P. now I'm thinking of buying ftdx10, comparing it with other transceivers and, as a result, selling something, and leaving something.
