Barracuda aren't the only fish who have attacked people wearing shiny trinkets or accessories. I remember on River Monsters there was a young girl wearing a belt adorned in shiny baubles who was attacked by a goliath tiger fish. There's many reasons I don't enter the water, and that's just one of em.

What's funny is I never knew about the bends until I was an adult but whenever I would go swimming, I'd naturally exhale as I came up from swimming under the water. It's kinda crazy when you think of how natural instincts match up with stuff they teach you for legitimate safety reasons. I mean yeah it's obvious, but also cool in a strange way. Mostly because I was not taught to swim by another person actively, but rather learned from watching others and copying them. I even went and spend a summer in a life guard program for kids. We learned how to do CPR, practiced diving and swimming, learning the rules, est. There was even a little tournament at the end of the summer. Mostly just swimming related stuff but there was a diving portion that I got second place in, which surprised me because I was overweight even back then. The only thing I couldn't do was the boat one. You and your team had to swim over to a raft and climb in from the water and well... Let's just say this little Shamu, couldn't pull a free willy to get in the lifeboat. XD
