My Secret for making a Lawn Striping Video | Humic Acid | Soil Compaction

Why DON'T you use the striping roller always (aside for reasons of filming). Is it not recommended to do this or does it have something to do with the ease in actually cutting without it? It would seem to me that if I was to make the investment in a striping roller I would plan to cut with it for every cut unless there is a reason why this would not be best case scenario. Any light you can shed on this would be highly appreciated and thank you for such an awesome (and passionate) channel!

Before lawn striping...I am 100% about turf health. I feel that using the roller EVERY time I mow is not productive as far as turf health goes...that is the only reason why.

@@GCITurf Pete, I'd love to pick your brain on this, but this comment opens up my eyes. I purchased the Toro lawn striper kit four years ago. For the past three years, my front lawn has basically gone from being immaculate to a fungus nightmare in the summer. I'm the only lawn on my entire street that has blown up like this. I've kept the striper attached. I wonder if maybe the constant striping (and not switching the patterns) along with watering and keeping the grass high has been the cause of this. I may need to rethink my strategy completely and perhaps only strip once in awhile, maybe once every 3-4 cuts, or maybe just in the fall. The stripes look amazing, but the fungue ruined my front lawn that had been sodded in 2012. I water heavy and not everyday or at night, keep it at 3-3.5". I've put down fungicides, grub killer. This may indeed be the cause. I appreciate the thoughts here, but you're saying using the striper if there are issues in the lawn will only make it worse.

Really appreciate the reply, Pete. Watching so many videos, I think I’ve fallen in love with seeing the stripes (and add to that I’m a huge baseball fan and just love seeing that MLB stripe type of pattern in the lawn). The more I look into it, I’m thinking this is the reason my yard has gone radioactive the last three summers. I’m going to ease back on the roller. I still don’t understand how the MLB grounds crews can do it. We went out to Seattle and did the tour at Safeco, and the guide said they keep the same stripe pattern until the All Star Break and then switch it for the remainder of the year. That grass is much shorter. I don’t know. Thanks again. You’re doing great work. By the way, this is one of my fav videos because of your short talk about being a dad and what that entails. Hey Pete I need your help first off I really appreciate your videos, and advice you give. I have Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue for 3 yrs now it's June 23rd and we live in Ks every summer I go crazy with trying to figure out why our Tall Fescue keeps dying. My yard is my hobby and passion I'm a ferm believer in cutting it 5 inches and stripped but it gets so HOT we even reached a humidity of 107° my yard is over half shade all day but my Tall Fescue keeps dying can I fertilize it or is it too late what do I do? We fertilized it the beginning of spring and it looked Amazing all spring and now it's it's slowly getting worse I don't know what to do? Do you have any advice for me?

So I'm I'm NC, just bought a new construction with over 2 acres, in Zebulon. We've planned to do this for a few years but rushed it due to everything going on. I have been watching you for well over a year, and then thought hey, he's not to far... I planted annual rye in our newly cleared property, which looks amazing right now, but in the hopes to plant Bermuda in the spring... My next door neighbor is like you. Talks about his lawn and how green it is. Funny thing his faimly is always over my house in my built in pool oasis of a backyard enjoying themselves as he's picking weeds and watering 2 times a day. Not a bad guy by who cares... I have 2 acres and the day I spend money watering grass is a day of wasted money. BTW my landscape is very well maintained. Shrub beds,flower beds and landscape lightning. Just not watering and stripping lawns when it hasn't rained in the past 2 weeks.

Hey Pete I'm having a issue with my riding lawnmower the weight of the lawnmower is leaving marks in my grass the tire marks is laying the grass down and it seems like the grass is turning a different color from the tire marks more of a yellow color like the grass is dying I never had this issue with my push lawnmower

With the right deck you don't need a stripping roller to get deep rich stripes. All we cut is tall fescue here in MD. Write mowers are built close to me. Rare to see one being used around here. For 26 years having owned Exmark ultracut and trivantage, bobcats, cub commercial, and countless gravelys such as 2 460's, 160, pro50 etc etc. Double cutting was the name of the game to clean up the surface debris or the clumps every morning until the dew dried off. Decided to give scag and their velocity+ a try after many great reviews and a strong recommendation from my dealer which I have built a relationship with over the years. I will never look back. This is the 4th season with it and I can count on two hands how many lawns I have had to double cut. The machine literally has half the hours on it compared to the machie it replaced in the same amount of lawns cut. And the stripes are insane with no stripe kit.

At the end of the day Pete being a father also means training my son to mow so I don’t have to walk as much and I can break off my osteoarthritis ridden right hip and beat the neighbor with it Save me some time. Been using both liquid and granular humic for the better part of a year. At what point in time did you see a noticeable change in soil compaction? And what is your frequency and rate per 1000 sf . Love your channel but I was disappointed knowing there isn’t an easy fix for the devil dog Bermuda in my TTTF I swear the neighbor’s hag plants my front with it when she’s making her evening broom fly by

Pete, you had any issues with your Water Right soaker hose clogging up? I run mine at 40psi (so I don't blow the black pipe fittings out) and it's progressively gotten less & less. Had this same issue last year & the warrantied the hose
