Is there a specific time frame to be aware about when poking holes in the base layer of royal icing? When I practiced that technique, the second layer of royal icing sunk into the holes creating craters and air bubbles as they dried. 😒

These cookies were flooded two days prior so the base was 100% dry.

The holes don’t always work for me. Do you wait for your bottom base to completely air dry before adding the top design? Or do you wait just a few hours?
