Thank you, this was a great help. Another fur I struggle with is very short white fur, like on a bull terrier. Not so much the colour, as usually their pink skin shows through, but the very short hair is a problem for me. Any advice is much appreciated xx

I would like to do a portrait of a friend's Chocolate Lab who has a very short, velvety looking coat. I watched your video on creating dark fur, but that dog had a much longer coat. I am wondering how different the approach would be in doing that dark brown fur on a dog that has a short, shiny, dark coat.

Pastelmat would be great too! When it comes to white paper, any thick paper with a fine to medium grain should do:)

I just started drawing more stuff like dogs I currently have a golden doodle to do would you say picking white paper over a toned tan paper is better

Hmm it depends. I like white paper because even light animals stand out on it nicely. If the toned paper is about the same tone as the dog, it might blend in with the background too much. If it's an extremely light golden fur though and the paper is darker than the fur, toned tan might work very well!

I cannot figure out how to get short hair such as on a Pitbull. Do I draw in little tiny fur strokes or do I just shade and not worry about the texture?

I think it depends what you see in the photo, usually for short fur you can afford to make the texture smoother but then maybe go in towards the end with some darker strokes perhaps.

Gorgeous work. The paper you use looks very smooth, does it have any texture/tooth? You seem to be able to get many layers of colour onto the paper and usually smooth papers don’t allow for this. More tutorials please. Have you done feathers? Would love to see you demonstrate. Thank you.

I have done feathers yes! I'll see if I can do a video about it. The paper is Canson 1557. It has a light grain to it, so it's not smooth. It can take a lot of layers for the light texture it has! That's Why I like it so much:D

White Fur!! I realize the paper is already white, but that's what makes it hard, to get enough contrast to make it stay white but yet make it look realistic at the same time. Especially if the majority of the drawing is white fur.
