Wow. No matter how fast and deft it is, it's one stroke, one hair at a time. But that's what we humans do! Beauty, discipline. It really is wonderful to have the benefit of a fine practitioner of her art, matter of factly sharing this awareness with anyone who will watch. Thank you so much!

I gave color pencils a try recently. I bought a set of 36 and a set of 72 because they went on sale for a good price. Unfortunately, I really, really don't like working with them. In my opinion, they are are extremely tedious. I prefer a process that's more like painting where you quickly block in the colors and then build up the details. I discovered pastels recently and they are like a dream. It's like a cross between painting, charcoal and color pencils. I'm amazed by the potential. I still like watching your videos, Leontine, because you are so talented with a great teaching style. I just imagine how I might do it with pastels. If you haven't already, check out Leontine's website. It's fantastic.

Great video, very helpful. One other thing that would be very helpful for aspiring artists is if you include the dimensions of your portrait. I know for me personally it would give perspective for details one is able to realistically put into a piece, how long it takes for such size and more. I'm typically working in a standard sketchpad (A4)

Yes I use that combination quite regularly! I love it! I have a snow leopard drawing here on my channel that is colored pencil on pastelmat. Next week there will be a new video drawing a dog with cp on pastelmat:)
@jaydee1774 жыл бұрын
Leontine van vliet - thank you Leontine! That video came across my KZbin feed moments after I asked the question on this video. Great job on the snow leopard! I use Canson 1557 paper (like you) but was curious about Pastelmat as some colour pencil artists love it as you can get more layers on without too much concern about saturating the tooth like you would on regular paper. On the downside however Pastelmat I think wears down more quickly your pencils because of its slightly abrasive surface. Keep up the great work you do!

@Leontinevanvliet4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea Gina! You can always have a try but if they are brandless I doubt they will work just as well as proffessional brands. Good quality pencils are quite important for realistic drawings like this. But in the end, anything is better than nothing!:)
