My seldom-fail Wordle strategy

I think I found the best way to start the Wordle game. So far it has worked for me every single time on the official Wordle online game. I spend some time explaining my strategies, and then afterwards I demonstrate it on an actual live Wordle puzzle. Also an intro for those who don't understand those little things that annoyingly show up constantly on your friends' Facebook timelines and Twitter feeds.

Literally any word that uses all five of the following letters: E-A-R-O-T-L-I-S will be a much better word to start than POKER. The letter P does not occur nearly as often as you might think, and the letter K even less. (Only six letters, W, V, Z, X, Q, and J, occur less frequently than the letter K.) You can reduce your search space much more with starting words like SLATE or SAUCE or STARE or STORE, etc., etc., etc To put it another way, when the P and the K don't return any information, which is often, you haven't helped your case any. All of the top Wordle bots are using SALET as their first guess, and many now regard it as the absolute best starting word. Thanks for the video.

*W is less common on a scale of how many words contain it, but is more common In speech, (Who, When, Where, Why, With, How….)

I think you're just really good at Wordle. Poker is more like a handicap than a strategy. Try STALE or STARE - I bet you'll do even better. Or LOSER - that gives you 3 from POKER but replaces the P & K with really common scrabble 1-point letters.

I start with route if nothing is correct I go for daily. Emphasize the vowels.

Wordles doesn’t use plurals or past tense. Look it up if you’re not sure.

I use four words: CANDY POKER MIGHT FLUBS. These take care of the 20 most common letters AND I (usually) win in 5.

Some more anagrams are "lyric steam hound" and "daily store munch" actually P is the 16th most common so that's not true

Starting with POKER isn't so good, because K is not a frequently-occurring letter. There is no "official Wordle online game". I've seen several Wordles; there are subtle differences. You should give the name of the puzzle's publisher. Wordle is not a game; it is a puzzle.

Your “strategy” looks to me a lot like throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks. A good first play should include 5 of the most common letters, which are, in order, ETAOINSHRDLU (you may find slightly different versions). P and K are pretty uncommon; I would never include them in my first guess. I consider anything over 4 nothing to be proud of.

My goal is simply to solve the puzzle, period, even if it takes all six. Also, I don't want to waste my first guess on too many commons, so I use a mixture because, well, you're gonna need an uncommon or two. (Or, on a bad day, four.) If it works for you, cool; I just don't rely on the ol' Linotype dumps.

A fun game to be played and shared among a group of family and/or friends no matter how you do. Having a strategy or the process of creating one adds to the enjoyment. My wife and I have different ones and she generally overall averages fewer guesses than I. Rather than comment on yours or sharing mine, I will just share that each aspect of play and sharing within a group large or small is what is likely most important. Have fun all who play.

“ADIEU”is a god word try it.

It literally IS a god word -- the French use it to say "farewell," as in, "I don't expect I'll see you again." It literally means "to God," as in "I probably won't see you again until we meet God." That's literally the contact of "adieu" versus "au revoir." The thing is, "ADIEU" is a good way to blow it early because it's almost nothing but vowels. You're using 4/5 of the vowels. Vowels make up less than 20% of the alphabet. Mathematically it doesn't work in your favor. But if it works for you, *that* is the important thing.

Well... as you can see, he's playing Wordle Unlimited. An S in the 5th place occurs 36 times in the list of words that the NY Times website uses.

@@ShadowPhoenix4798 No, obviously they do not. In the video, the answer to the first puzzle, at about 2:11, is LOOMS. A quick check on the official NY Times list of words indicates that LOOMS is a valid guess... but it's not in the list of valid answers. Another example: in this video, one of the answers, at about the 5:31 mark, is PILED. That word is also a valid guess... but in Wordle it will never be a valid answer. Likewise with GENES another minute and half or so later. There may be more examples in this video. I didn't bother to check. But these three examples are more than sufficient to show the list of words that this site uses (or USED, because I think it's been shut down) as valid answers, is not the same as the official NY Times site.
