All the same symptoms. I was sitting in my living room feeling pretty bad thinking it was the flu, and there was a knock at the door. I opened to see an ambulance backed up ready to go. One of the paramedic said someone called an ambulance. My first thought was that he had the wrong address. Within 3 hours I was on a ventilator, intubated. I didn't realize anything until 3 days later in ICU. The fist night I was in I nearly died. My son in Florida was concerned about the text messages I was sending and called the ambulance. He may very well have saved my life. I am at home now, week three of IV antibiotics.I have good days and bad, but I am alive

I cry watching all these stories. I had sepsis in 2016 following a uti that moved to my kidneys and into my bloodstream before I even realized I had more than the uti. What people don't know about sepsis is you go into such a lethargic brain fog, all your decisions "make sense" at the time because you just feel like you need to rest up. But it keeps getting worse. If I hadn't had people around me saying "no you need a hospital asap" I wouldn't have recognized how sick I was getting.

I had sepsis also it started as a UTI which the antibiotics I was given were not helping. I went to the ER two a.m. the morning of Thanksgiving with severe back pain and there was a temp doctor that SENT ME HOME. The next couple of days I got worse was unable to eat, vomiting & unable to walk so back to the ER Sunday & diagnosis Sepsis. They loaded me with antibiotics gave me oxygen mask -staff were all buzzing around me doing lots of things. As you say you are so ill that you can't think clearly at all. I am lucky to be alive. The moral of this story is - don't get sick over the holidays as many times there are skeleton or temp staff at hospitals and you can't get hold of your local doctor as the office is shut.

I survived sepsis and a year and a half later I am still suffering cognitive problems it has been the scariest thing I have ever been through if you or a loved one go through this I would advise a good care taker because you will have a very hard time with memory and financial stuff I would advise getting a companion dog also because there will be alot of lonely times and make sure you have some good friends to talk to to help you get through it....

One of the things I find so telling in most of these stories is how much time goes by between the onset of initial symptoms and admission to hospital.

I was in ICU with Sepsis. I made a video for my family in case I died, because I definitely felt like I was on the verge of dying …again just like you I wasn’t worried for myself. I was worried for my husband and my two sons that I was going to be leaving. I also had a dream that my dog that had just passed came to me with God and told me I was gonna be fine I felt like I was gonna be OK . the next thing I remember I woke up to my husband asking the doctor “ is she supposed to be sleeping this much and the doctor said no but he suggested it was just my body trying to heal. I almost died. That day. I almost died the day after and the day after but on the fourth day, I started to take a turn for the better. My husband said he knew I was going to be OK because I looked at him very clearly and said hi babe which is what I call him and he said he knew when I said that I was gonna be all right and at that point, he thank God for healing me. I’ve had a lot of complication since then six months after that I had two strokes, and now I’m dealing with aphasia. My memory gets worse and worse by the day. My coordination is going to hell . my feet and toes hit things all the time. I’ve broken my toes three times since December and still sometimes I’m afraid to go to sleep because I don’t think that I’m gonna wake up as the worst fear in the world, your eyes are closing by themselves at 2 o’clock in the morning and you’re trying to stay awake because I don’t want my husband to wake up and find me dead. I’m still scared to this day and I don’t know when that will go away if it does it all I’m so glad you got better and don’t have any residual effects of the sepsis.

Im so sorry. I jnow how it feels that they just didnt care about a loved one. I hope you can find peace. My heart goes out to you. My sister got sepsis and they had to amputate 3 limbs. She did 6 months rehab and she was supposed to go home. The doctors had her opened up in the beginning of the sepsis and said words like "it didnt look right in there" but noone took samples or passed that on. Then she got swollen lymphnodes and they thoughr it was cancer but screwed up the first biopsy. By the time they figured out what she had, 2 weeks later, she was good as dead. They made so many mistakes. She just wanted to go home so bad. In the end, after all that, she didnt even make it home to die.

I had sepsis in April of this year. Thank God for the ambulance and doctors and nurses etc. I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for a month and a half now. I think the sepsis was related to diabetes 😮

I was getting UTI infections, only symptom was blood in the urine, doctors didnt see this i guess as an issue? But all within 4 months, these infections kept getting closer and closer and the micky mouse antibiotics they kept giving were not doing the job, and i went sepsis, down for the count, confused, chills, and you name it Im still at risk, found a large kidney stone causing possible problems. No one seems to be able to help me, doctors are all quitting or leaving had enough of the pandemic nightmare that caused, honestly when my age group retires , which is soon, there will be alot of deaths early aged 60"s, due to being over weight and no good doctors left.

You are lucky to be seen so quickly. Here you have to wait 10 hours in the ER, weeks for a docs appt. Ambulance had to wait with you in it to even get into the ER waiting room. this is Canada.

WhT is wrong with so many people dying of sepsis. It seems that Noone knows how to treat this. I believe the ventilator is not the answer as it makes all of you organs worse and then you are never the same. America should be ashamed not to be able to help.

Its the silent pandemic. Half of all hospital deaths are sepsis and nobody knows how to treat it. We need research funding and an awareness campaign. Its a naster killer, and maimer.
