The rhythmic Shave and a Haircut sequence was actually created by legendary railroad engineer Casey Jones. A man of six-foot, four-and-a-half-inches, Jonathan Luther "Casey" Jones, who lived in Jackson, Tennessee, was nicknamed "Casey" because he was a country boy who was born in (differently-spelled) Cayce, Kentucky. Famous for being a living legend, a hero who saved a toddler from his own train - too much story to explain here - being able to play tunes on his steam engine's whistle (including the Shave and a Haircut's "tune" he'd created), and some personal "attributes" we can't mention here (since this is a family discussion), he died, again being an hero, saving passengers in a tragic train wreck in the year 1900, at age 37. And speaking of tunes, he's immortalized in the 1909 song, "The Ballad of Casey Jones."
