All of the shirts are fabulous. I really love the third one in the video with the birds, what great fabrics and I think the dropped shoulder suits the fabric. Any faults certainly can’t be seen from here .

Just love seeing all of your shirts, gorgeous fabrics too! Can you ever have too many shirts…don’t think so! 😄 Your video has really inspired me to sew more shirts. I wear lots of them but as a mum to two young girls I don’t get a lot of time to sew them. I’ll definitely be trying a few of the patterns you suggested. Thank you!

I get so excited whenever a new video pops up. Please don't stop! Doesn't matter how long between videos, infact I appreciate that you wait till you've got something to talk about or show us. Love the fabrics you've used for all the shirts. I kept gasping at the silk to the point my hubby wondered what I was watching 😂. All the fabrics look fab with your trousers. Amazing how when you stick to a colour palette that suits you everything in your wardrobe becomes cohesive. I am still drooling over the William Morris shirt. After I finished my Armidale dress (thanks to you), I started a couple of shirts. I am now making some wide leg trousers to wear with them. You are an inspiration. Thanks and keep it up please.

Thank you so much this was my favorite video. I love shirts and the fact that you love shirts is helping me so much in my sewing practice. I love the color palette and how one pair of colored pants paired fabulously with all your makes. Thanks for the Pam Howard Craftsy recommendation. I struggle with my collar stand fitting neatly into the button placket so hopefully she gives some tips on that or maybe it will just improve with more shirt making. Your shirts look absolutely beautiful on you and you are such an inspiration to me.

Hello, I'm about to sew almost only shirts this autumn, your podcast is so so nice! Thanks for adding some patterns on my list (well, ..maybe not thanks actually ;-), your Maya(s) are beautiful and the Thea Boho looks amazing! It's really interesting to see all these differents patterns in one podcast, thousand thanks for that! (and also for beeing so understandable for non native people like me! (Belgian speaking French) by the way: you pronounced Joli Lab perfectly!;) I'm off to see your video dedicated to Thea.

All gorgeous as ever Alex. The floral fabric on your first shirt is dreamy and looks amazing with your trousers. I also really love the panel melliot shirt on you, even if the french seams are annoying you a little and it was a pain in the arse to make! As the sleeves are short you could perhaps, cut off the cuffs and make them 3/4 length with elastic (I too have had to do this on a few shirts along with bicep increase 😩), and as I like to pull or turn sleeves up it makes it easier. The wide-leg trouser trend, of which I am also a huge fan allows us to have lots of these beautiful, classy shirts (so a perfect excuse for you to make lots more 😝), as the big and baggy just, as you say, drowns or blobs us out and are a pain to tuck in. I have just purchased the new Atelier Fauve shirt which also has the pleating detail on it (must be another trend), so I will let you know how I get on with that, but shirts and wide-leg trousers are definitely the plan for me for this winter. The extended cuff advice, so that they wrap over a jumper sleeve, is brilliant, I am definitely going to use this tip. x
@AlexJudgeSews
@AlexJudgeSews Жыл бұрын
I've remembered that there's a bit of the silk fabric leftover so if I could face it I could unpick the cuff and add a new longer one. Please, please let me know how you get on with the Atelier Fauve shirt - as you've now given me a perfectly reasonable justification to make more shirts - they are a classic after all 😂💓💃

You look great in those wide trousers and tucked in shirt. Unfortunately my lifestyle (retired at home sloucher) means I opt for the slim leg trousers, but I do love shirts. I’d love to see the construction of that bias placket you spoke of. Tower plackets I find difficult to get spot on, especially with viscose, although I’m definitely a slow sewer. Many thanks for your videos, you’re one of the few I follow because you’re more discerning about your choices and I learn more about sewing, fabrics and patterns. Thank you xox

I watched your video last night and of course, I had to scoot right over to the Jolie lab website. Thanks to you I am now 72 euros poorer (and who knows what that will be once converted to American dollars) but I fell in love with their patterns and fabrics. The shipping cost to the US is an eye opener but the heart wants what the heart wants, and I am now kicking myself for not including another piece of fabric which was on sale. I do love your channel, even if you get me into trouble, as we have similar body shapes and it so helpful to see your reviews and finished makes. Those green trousers are awesome by the way!

Hi Alex. I must admit I did a little happy squeak when I saw a new vid from you. Made me realise I hadn’t seen you for a while and missed you! Anyways, thanks for the shirt tour. Impressive collection👍My fave was actually the striped Burda. I think that I like that more fitted silhouette on you! Me….I love a shirt. Love making them……love wearing them……the problem is that I sort of hate ironing them……so I don’t tend to reach for them to wear as often as the number of shirts in my wardrobe would dictate🤦‍♀️. That said, I DO have plans for summer (coming up inAustralia) shirt making in some gorgeous tana lawns that I have in my stash. My fave go to is a princess seam mccalls pattern (7470) that I have adjusted by iteration over the many times I have made it. I look forward to any new vid from you whenever you should feel like making one for us😉

Beautiful blouses well done on the cream white with the tucks love that I tend to make blouses that are basic but you inspire me to go up a level and try to make something with more detail The red wool blend on your last video I think would make a great twin set it's light enough that you would wear the two together Yet not to warm I would suggest also a VOGUE pattern 8831 it's a older pattern but there are similar ones newer I am sure The cap sleeve could be under a cardigan or the three quarter or longer would stand alone as a great top with the wide trousers Adjust length to wear you want it I have made this in light weight knits all versions and wear them alot Always enjoy your videos Happy sewing Take care

Wonderful shirts, they all look great. I love a shirt and wear them all year. I subscribe to burda style and have made loads of their shirt patterns. Also love the fibre mood ermine blouse, have made several, of those too. Made a couple of patina blouses, but have not really worn them much, think the collar may be too much for me. You definitely don't have a shirt problem. Love the pleats on the Maya pattern , tempted!

I am reasonably new to shirt making and although I am in Australia, I get my fabric from Dynasty Fabrics in Pakistan. I was buying it from Mood but was costing me A$45 a metre plus postage. If I get it direct from Dynasty it costs me $45A for 4.5 metres of the Spark luxurious cotton. Add postage it it works out to $20 a metre. Gives an almost silk like finish.

@@AlexJudgeSews Yes, have bought fabric from Kristen, and it is beautiful. Hope she is not in the Victorian area where there is flooding at present. I was getting the Spark fabric from the USA and as I said, I decided to buy it from Dynasty in their unstitched range. I haven't had any problems with them in the least, however the postage to Aus is equivalent to the cost of the item. It is however, still much more inexpensive than buying from the USA. They also sell coating fabrics, but they are are all in the male gender colour range, eg black, grey, navy etc. The cotton range has lots more colours, esp the turquoise and teal colours.

Stunning! Would it be extra complicated to do a full bust adjustment given those pleats? A tip for sewing silk: starch it into submission. Have not tried this, but Whitney of TomKat Stitchery recommends this and she knows her stuff.
@AlexJudgeSews
@AlexJudgeSews Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't know, I've never done one! I've used starch for floaty fabrics before and find the one you mix yourself to work well as you can control how solid it is, but I wouldn't do it with silk. Just goes to show there's no right or wrong way 😄💚

I have 2 outings today and was looking in my closet wondering what to wear and decided on a shirt. As I'm having my tea this morning and decide to watch a sewing vlog there is Alex talking about shirts. I love the first shirt, that yoke detail is so unique. I'm not a fan of the second and I think it's because of the dropped sleeve, just not a fan of that look. Your silk shirt is gorgeous! I plan on making lots of shirts this fall/winter, they are so versatile. I tend to wear long sleeved tshirts under sweaters (jumpers), because I run cold but there is no reason I couldn't do the same with a shirt. Do you put buttons/buttonholes on the collar stands? I tend not to just because I would never do them up. I love the look of the tower placket and haven't done one in years, definitely will be adding that to a few shirts. When you showed the flip cuff I remembered I did that way back in high school. I thought it just looked so classy! Please wear your new jeans on your next vlog. I really love the wide legged look and want to make a pair as soon as I drop a few pounds. Last week I packed away summer clothes and pulled on warmer things. I cannot believe I have 37 long sleeved tshirts. All but 2 are store bought and none are expensive. Crazy! But they are warm under the multitude of sweaters and cardigans I have. Now to check out that French pattern company. Do I need another shirt pattern? No! Do I want another shirt pattern? Yes!!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. When I see a fabric I like the first thing I think is 'oh that'd make a nice shirt' 😂. I often forget the button on the collar stand, partly because I never use it and partly because if any buttonhole is going to mess up it'll be that one! I have included them in the last couple of shirts though 👼❤

ooh I've made a Helmi! I really liked it, but found I never wore it I think it was something to do with the fabric I chose. I might give it another go now you've reminded me 😄🙏

As a fellow shirt lover, have you seen the Ready To Sew Jane shirt? What do you think? Loving all your shirts by the way, most especially the silk. You have nailed choosing the right colours. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Yes, I have the Jane pattern - I forgot I had it, so thank you for the reminder. I love the look of it, just need to find a nice double sided fabric.

Yes, I need more long sleeved shirts. Your collection is wonderful! Speaking of French seams, is it possible to do a French seam on a set-in-sleeve? Has it ever been done?🥴🇨🇦

You can do it - I’ve done it before and it just takes patience and a bit of fiddling to make sure the pressing in between is very neat!

I’d agree, it is possible with patience 😁
