A personal tip for people using SATA SSDs with Blackmagic cameras: Get “enterprise-class” SSDs that have a feature called “Powerloss Protection”, this feature helps preventing data loss or even a completely bricked SSD when there are issues with the SSD’s power supply (for example a bad/damaged cable or loose plugs).
@alwayscallingmeblaze Жыл бұрын
Oh wow didn’t know that existed. Do you have a particular brand/product you recommend?
@abavariannormiepleb9470 Жыл бұрын
@@alwayscallingmeblaze I’ve personally used Micron 5400 PRO 3.84 TB SATA SSDs with my PCC6k. Another current recommendation would be the Samsung PM897. These SSDs are faster than any of the “premium” brands (Angelbird etc.) and enterprise-class SSDs advertise with their real-world instead of peak performance numbers under optimal conditions (like a benchmark of an empty SSD, for example). While I’m just a rather new hobbyist regarding camera stuff I have many, many years of experience with computer storage systems and SSDs and was disgusted by the marketing BS going on in the camera space.

Your workflow makes sense and isn't much different than mine. Given the high quality of your images, I would never have guessed that you shoot in 12:1 Braw, I generally oscillate between 8:1 and 5:1 but I really think I'll do some comparative tests with 12:1. If you do all the post production work in FCP, encoding in ProRes 422 is definitely a smart move that I agree with If, on the other hand, I have to do the color in DaVinci Resolve, I have always been very happy with this type of workflow: proxy files created with the Blackmagic Proxy Generator > Editing in Final Cut Pro > Importing the xml into DaVinci > 'Link Full Resolution Media' . This way I can edit in FCP without losing the flexibility of BRaw.
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!! I am pretty happy and comfortable with 12:1 :) And yes, the workflow you describe makes perfect sense for colouring in Davinci and what I will do if I change the grading from FCPX to Davinci.

This video has helped me a bunch as Im just a newbie on KZbin. Thank you so much. If you can kindly answer two questions: 1) If Im shooting 6k mini travel documentaries (most are around 10-15 min each) and want them to be the highest quality on KZbin (I hate banding!), can you export them at ProRes 422 or is H264 still make more sense? 2) Have you ever tried to export your 6K work to 8K on KZbin? Ive noticed time and again that things shot/uploaded in 8K look so superior to ordinary 4K uploads when watched on a just a regular large 4k TV. I want my 6K footage to show off some of that higher quality magic and feel cheated dropping it down to 4K after all my hard work....or is 6K to 4K good enough? Thank you again and hope you have a great week brother.

I‘m just starting out so this is excellent. Thank you so much. My justification for buying the 6K pro is to film our classical-type concerts. To not have completely white faces on a grainy background. Could you possibly suggest settings and a lens for me? I will set the camera up on a tripod to try to encompass most of the stage. Our performances are usually between 85-120 minutes. I would really appreciate a few pointers from you for this specially- I bought the bmpcc 6kpro from watching many of your videos.
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it!! In terms of lenses it depends how far you are from the stage and how wide as well as if you need to change focal length. Primes are faster so it will be better for low light but a zooms like the 24-105 will give you range :). It is hard for me to suggest settings as it depends on the location and project. Raw has more flexibility but tend to be noisier and also heavier. For long performances make sure to get enough media as it will be quite heavy for 1-2h.

Hello! New to the bmpcc (4k) workflow and b-raw! Normally with other mirrorless cameras it seems that if you shoot strictly on either of the camera's dual native ISO's, that (should) give the best signal to noise ratio/less noise. But if you're shooting in b-raw and technically can change the ISO in post (within the ISO range you shot in), does that mean that it wouldn't matter if you shot at let's say 3200 (I think that's the 4k's second iso) vs. shooting at maybe 2000 ISO and changing it to 3200 in post? Would one give better image quality/less noise than the other? Also Flo for denoising, do you just do temporal, spatial, or both? Also do you normally change the chroma setting too? Thank you for any help!
@LukeMackie Жыл бұрын
At 2:48 you talk about shooting in full 6K and when downscaling to 4K this will present better quality, one thing I've been wondering for a while but haven't been able to find answers for is exactly how to do that.. For instance, if you shoot in 6K but create a 4K timeline, does this automatically downscale it for you? Or should you have a 6K timeline and then export in 4K in order to downscale the image? I'd really appreciate some feedback here
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
If you were to put your 6k footage in a 4k timeline you will have more room to crop in, move around etc. Depending on the NLE you can choose to Fit the footage or not. Exporting from 6k to 4k like I do does make for a great 4k image but doesn't give the advantages of doing it in the timeline if that makes sense.
@LukeMackie Жыл бұрын
@@OfTwoLands Got you, I usually do have the fit to screen option already selected.. I'm assuming this automatically downscales for you?

do you have a video that breaks down or elaborates on the DR to final cut workflow? If i shoot in Pro res raw, i'd have to transcode to cinema dng to get it into DR and then follow your workflow? Any guideance would be awesome. Thanks!
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
I don't have a specific video on this yet apart from from what I mentioned in this video re transcoding. I also don't use Prores raw, just BRAW and then Prores in FCPX. The Forum on BM website would be the best place for this I think. A lot of people also create Proxies from DR to be able to edit in FCPX and relink to DR to keep the RAW capabilities.
