The parents are terrible for how they played favorite with the siblings, it always backfires. I heard quite a few reddit stories similar to this one, where this op had a step sister who was sickly so she spent her whole childhood taking care of her until they became adults and op had a boyfriend who cheated on her with her step sister and got her pregnant and engaged, her parents and relatives was completely on board with it and told op she was the AH and She should support her sister. She told them off and went no contact, then her step mom was the only one reached out and apologized to her and she haven't heard from her father, then her ex kept trying to get back with her but she shut that down.

There was one I remember where OP had a spoiled younger brother who has high functioning autism and their parents use that as a excuse to get him whatever he wants. There are 2 separate stories where they go to a neighbor’s bday party where the younger brother proceeds to trash the place because he didn’t get to blow the birthday boy’s candles and the 2nd one is where the parents cancel OP’s bday party and get shamed by everyone after OP opens up. For shame. For all the years of Kasumi lying and the parents believing in the lie ended up not only splitting the family apart, but it also destroyed the relationship the parents had with their other daughter, Masumi. Once Kasumi’s lie was exposed thanks to Masumi’s boyfriend collecting evidence, all hell broke loose in the family and her parents were not pleased with being duped by Kasumi for all those years. Moral of the story: Don’t lie to your family or anyone else for that matter just to get what you want because eventually it’ll catch up to you, rear it’s ugly head, and bite you in the behind.

Some parents with chronically ill or disabled kids end up overcompensating their treatment of them due to guilt and end up accidentally end up neglecting the “normal” kid in the process. Honestly, I can pretty strongly relate to this, being the older sibling and my brother being the younger sibling. I had to work hard to get what I wanted while my mother spoiled my little brother by buying him whatever he wanted. I remember especially getting upset on the inside whenever my mother would give in to my crying little brother and buy almost everything he wanted. I forgive him and my mother, but it doesn't make it right to love a child more than the other. The only reasons I can think of him doing this was he was assuming I was getting more attention because I have Asperger's Syndrome, or he just wanted to one up me in everything or something. I've never asked and tbh, I don't care anymore. I can only pray that my little brother will love his 3 daughters with equal, unconditional love. I don't want them to go through what I went through.

Not showing favoritism is a lot harder than you'd think. Kids won't always see things the same way you do. e.g. You get your 14yo son a phone. 12yo daughter gets upset that she's not getting a phone too. - You explain to her that her brother is 2 years older, and she'll get her phone when she's 14. She's says it's favoritism that he's getting something and she's getting nothing right now. - You give in and get the daughter a phone. Son gets mad and says it's favoritism that she's getting a phone when she's 12, while you absolutely refused when he was 12 and told him he had to wait until he was 14. It's literally a no-win situation for the parent.

I like Masumi couldn't just forgive the parents. Their playing favoutites started the whole thing to begin with, and only made Masumi's situation way worse, so they have blame on this as well. Especially after they asked Ren to ditch his fiance for her sister.... How do you even consider asking that? He's a freaking human being! You can't just give him to another person! I bet Ren understands Masumi's decision about not forgiving her parents. ("Of course I understand you don't want to reach out for them even after they apologised, they tried to set me up with your sister right there and with no seccond thought and called me out for refusing!").

I honestly don't know how I feel about the parents. They treated the "sick" daughter better, forgot about equal love and eventually it became a habit. The "sick" daughter took advantage of their kindness, somewhat responsible nature(I say somewhat because they essentially forgot the not-sick daughter) and lived a lie. When that lie broke, she went ape shit and parents found out the true colors of the "sick" daughter. They apologized to the not-sick daughter but not-sick daughter was tired of them and everything else to do with them. And so she broke ties.

I love this Manga dub. It tells an interesting story of a girl who was always treated badly because her younger sister tried to make her life miserable. Luckily for her Ren planned this all out from the beginning and his friends helped gather the evidence to finally reveal Kasumi’s dark side. Kasumi got what she deserved. And when she’s older by her parents and cries about it here’s my word on that. (Man, what a crybaby). I love it! Keep up the amazing work! You’re the legend Mika!
