Really enjoyed this book!! Couldn’t put it down, I love her style; the short chapters and episodic structure. You know it’s a good read when you’re gasping out loud.

Read this is 2 sittings, it was RIVETTING and I couldn't put it down. Challenges my idea of serial killers because Ayoola is so friendly, charming and somehow likeable which really surprised me. I thought all serial killers were cold, calculating and unable to show emotion. Having Ayoola viewed through the eyes of a loving older sister was an entirely new angle that I really liked. Short, sharp chapters and character development in a brisk way but I loved it even so. As the older sibling of a much-favoured, excused, pampered, spoiled, entitled younger brother, I sooo relate to Korede. Being the oldest is a burden, Korede. I feel you, girl.

I liked the book and found myself rooting for yet chastising the main characters. Ayollah and Korode are complex characters. I feel like something in Ayollah “broke” after the abuse of their father. Ayollah seems to punish men who succumb to their desires. I wanted to read a mystery/thriller from an author of African-descent and heard the buzz about this book.

David Mogo, Godhunter by Suyi Davies Okungbowa. A Nigerian godpunk novel, described as "a powerful and atmospheric urban fantasy set in Lagos." WIRED called it "an auspicious debut from one of the most promising new voices in the growing coterie of African SFF writers.” More info here: www.simonandschuster.com/books/David-Mogo-Godhunter/Suyi-Davies-Okungbowa/9781781086490

Just added this to my syllabus for a literature & film class -- such a fun read and a wonderful starting point for discussion re: "reckless women" and their place in popular fiction/film. Can't wait to see a movie version...until then I'm "pairing" it with "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night"

These topics are taboo, the thought bring into words, words bring thoughts into action, be careful what think about. What allow into your thought gate, your eye gate, your ear gate, what you allow into your spirit, you're to guard against these things.

The book sucks. Despite not having a story, not having a proper ending, the story has so many open endings that at the end you question your judgement on picking up this book. Thank you for wasting my time.
