In comparison to many other reviews of this book on YT, yours is the first where I can actually tell that you understood and appreciate everything Oyinkan was saying between the lines and for that thank you. I really enjoyed this book for its concise nature and the topics it touched on such as pretty privilege, the effect of the father daughter relationship, the transactional nature of relationships, and most importantly what it means to be the first born daughter especially in an African household. She addresses those points with so little words and leaves the rest up to the reader to interpret for themselves which is fine with me but I can see how others may have wanted more. Again, thank you for your review!

Oh wow! 😊 this is so kind! You are absolutely right, she does well to explore these themes with such lightness and no preaching even. It is also enough for me 💗📚🌺

I just finished reading this book and got on KZbin to watch a few reviews and see how others felt about it. To me, it wasn't the best book I have ever read but not to worse either. I do recommend reading it. I liked the short chapters. Now, it was too predictable. The whole time I was expecting a plot twist and once I realized her sister will be getting away with murder, i was pissed 😂 also, some characters in the story didn't make sense. As in, I don't know what was their purpose in the story.

lol I hear you about the characters, like the older sister's colleagues for example. I think the main appeal and the reason why I liked the book was the ease of it, accessibility to anyone, as well as what she did with the genre by making our main protagonist female and still being able to sprinkle in issues of pretty privilege, humour and other things. I absolutely understand you saying you didn't hate it but you also didn't love it.I appreciated it.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it this year. I think you've done a great job in this review of highlighting the depth in this story. I also seem to recall that it did a great job of showing the sense of low-level danger that women feel pretty much all the time. And I loved the ending! Also your makeup is perfect 🙌

Oh thank you so much! Yes, there definitely was that sense of eerie danger that I really couldn't articulate so I left out lol! you've said it so well! :) ❤️

I'm glad you did this one. Since it came out, I always assume it was a typical crime novel so I never picked it up but it definitely seems more than that so I'll have a look!
