Another red bearded outdoorsman who loves the trades on the other side of the world who could inspire me and make me feel a bit of kinship. It’s not meaningless Beau. We do what we can for the world around us. The trees you planted, bottles you saved, waterways you have cleaned and the wood you repurposed, all makes the world better. Especially the stories.

“I contribute nothing”. I’ll bang on this gong too. You inspire adventure and creativity with your pursuits. We were made to tilt at windmills and do things for the sake of doing them. In a world where we seem to place a high priority on things that are instantly gratifying, it’s refreshing to watch someone from the “make your own damn fun” school of thought. There is nothing as satisfying as taking nothing and turning it into something.

Great work Beau. As a now 46 year old father of two, the comment about contributing nothing while out there resonates with me, but I also know myself well enough now to know I'm a miserable bastard if I'm stuck in the house. Getting out is never a bad idea, and as you say, even a mediocre run, ride or walk elevates the mood and makes me a better man, dad, husband, manager, employee and all the other roles we play...

“I contribute nothing” hit hard. This is something that I feel with every long run or training block commitment as a father of three young boys. You hit the nail on the head with the juxtaposition that is presented when we commit to doing something that doesn’t have a direct benefit to those that we care most about. Yes, taking care of ourselves allows us to take care of others but there certainly is diminishing returns when you ramp your mileage up beyond a certain point. Thanks for the entertaining video - I found it to be refreshingly light

@@CuriousFrog will do. I also like old railroad maps, pre interstate. There is a place in tehachapi California where trains do loop going up or down the mountain pass to either gain speed or slow down. What a beautiful video. I'm saving it for a rewatch. I'm an ultra runner married to a non runner. It's all about balance, which can be tough with such an extreme sport and hectic lives. For my husband and I, it's not hour for hour, 50/50, but I do make sure he gets HIS time. And, like many spouses so used to giving giving giving, he often says he's fine and doesn't need it. FYI guys, they're lying, to themselves and you. Make sure your partner gets the same sense of freedom, independence, or peaceful time every week that your running gives you, or the frustration and resentment WILL grow over time. If you can't manage it weekly, then give them a night away at a location of their choosing once a training block/race is over. Sometimes this crazy life, and this crazy hobby of ours, demands creativity. 😂

From one runner to another, thank you for the insight, infectious enthusiasm, and wonderful mindset. Almost ten years ago I ran my first race, a half marathon. I inadvertently chose one of the hilliest races in the state, but still had a lovely time. I trained a little more seriously the next year, and set a half marathon PR of just under two hours, which was lovely. I had to take four years off of running due to some injuries, and it was a terrible time, but by 2022 I was finally healed back up enough to run again, and life is just magical. I ran my first full marathon then, hiked the entire coast of Oregon in 2023, and this year am working on speed. I've run my fastest 5k and 10k races since 2016, and am on track to challenge my half marathon PR in a few weeks. Your videos have definitely helped me as I clawed my way back to being a runner again. Thank you.

Hey Beau. I've been watching your videos for a few years now. Recently I was out for a few nights at a local park. I stopped at one of the picnic tables and someone had left half of a perfectly good clementine. I didn't think much of it at first but suddenly I remembered you. And I thought what would Beau do in this moment. So I picked up that clementine, and a few hours later in the heat of the day enjoyed it very much. Your videos have definitely left an impression on me, so thanks. Happy trails from the USA
