I thought the part of "what my teacher wants tp hear" would be something really easy or a hard classical music. But, also you did a good performance!

In my time of playing piano I have realised that when you're going to learn piano with a teacher, you play at least one piece until teacher is happy, and then you move on to the next. When you play by yourself, without a teacher, when you're grown up etc. you will start testing out alot of different music and also based on your favorite movies/series or whatever you like. You might play fewer pieces at that point and focus with one for a long time. I remember I learnt Pirates of the Carribean - He is a pirate so well I could play it without notes for a long time or years after. I won't say I have forgotten it completly, but I can't really fill in the blanks (the parts that you forget) anymore, and I am not really playing that much either. Anyway. If you like it, continue with it! Find songs online etc, and store them in a folder so you can print em out whenever you want to. Also very important. If you have family members interrupting you everytime you play, just focus on playing when they are not there. Worst case they might ruin your motivation for learning a song etc.

I recommend doing both a teacher can help you get all the technique and in your free time just play your own songs that you like it is a good way to see improvement quickly and have more fun
