My Skin Cancer Experience | Positive Outcome (Suspected Basal Cell Carcinoma)

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience of going through the healthcare system for the past 10 months with a suspected basal cell carcinoma (BCC). I was reassured at every step of the way but, as I'm sure you'll understand, it can be a very intense experience. Thankfully I was informed quite early on that it wasn't an urgent situation but I was also told to prepare for possible surgery, depending on the biopsy outcome.
I am relieved that it was a good outcome for me but I also felt it was important to start a conversation as we need to be aware of what to look for, but it can present itself in very unusual ways. I hope that this video helps to raise awareness x

Glad you're okay. Had a basil cell removed from my lower temple adjacent to my eye. Plastic surgeon did a great job. Left only a very thin tiny line. Here in Florida, which is literally called "The Sunshine State," it's wise to get checked every few years. With flawless porcelain skin like yours, you'd probably have to get checked more often if you lived here.

Thank you for sharing. My father, he's a very old man, has always worked under the sun without a sunscreen cream. Some years ago he went to the doctor to have his drug prescription, but his doctor was on holiday and the substitute asked him: "How long have you had that dark spot on your forehead, sir?" And my father: "Some years now". She replied: "Then I'll prescribe you a visit to the Dermathologist's too, because I'm afraid you need someone to take a serious look at that... and at his little brothers all around..."; it was keratosis - I think that's how you'd call it - and now Dad is periodically checked because those cancers come and go, but the point is No one had ever noticed anything problematic in that spot before. It was found by chance, I suppose. PS Don't tell my Dad I called him "Old Man" 😅

We’ll refer to your dad as ageless from now on 😊 I’ve found substitute doctors have been extra vigilant in the past & I’m thankful he had that experience. I think a monthly glance at our skin would be a good idea for all of us to keep on top of everything x

I have never experienced that, thankfully. But I am very conscious of skin cancer and how damaging the sun can be, so any time I’m outside for any extended period of time cover myself in sunblock. My skin is very fair and I burn so easily and I know that can lead to skin cancer easily.

I'm glad you look after yourself, especially with your line of work. It just goes to show that you can be aware of what to look for and something can present itself that doesn't fit the classic signs. I know what to keep tabs on now!

Wow, so glad it turned out OK! That is a very long time to wait though. Hopefully if they suspected the worst it would've been a shorter time. What a relief! 🙏💕

Relief is the perfect word! I agree about the wait time (overstretched NHS) & the lovely nurse did say at the final appointment it would have been next day if it was necessary 🙏🏻 x
