Mr. Saunders... the amazing thing about you beside your knowledge is the ability you have of treating all tree and plants with that incredible care of yours...despite their size species or where they come from. Its something admirable. You make the diference. I can only hope that you stick around for a long time because i have been learning so much and i wanna learn more. Thank you for that.

Great seeing you work with the trees the rabbits chewed down and you did not skip a beat. I love the idea of larches, but every zone has it's limitations. Thanks for the show. I enjoyed it a lot.

Hi Nigel, when you return those pots to Johnathan could you possibly do an update on that silver birch forest you both put together. It would be very interesting to see how this has developed - not least because I shamelessly copied what you guys did and this would set my expectations for how it might develop 😁 Keep up the great work.

I love all your root work! It makes me so anxious, but the trees seem to thrive on it, so I am not going to argue with it. That larch forest is still my favourite, as I watch mine go into winter dormancy here in Victoria, Australia. I hope it pops come September!

Nigel, at ~18:16, you gave a description of "...what bonsai is..." As you raked out the the larch seedling's roots for the first time, what you said sounded like good parenting advice: "...it's just about refinement; do as much as you can...as you work on it..." That, along with, protection from harsh extremes of the environment; watering and feeding; ensuring enough room and good drainage and; training by nipping wild, poorly directed growth early and pruning to keep things neat, sounds like good general advice especially for novices. Don't you think? Maybe a book! How to Care and Grow Great Bonsai and Children: The Nigel Sanders Way?? It's a thought. Thanks for the advice, joy and entertainment.

Only just started my bonsai journey after suffering a stroke last year, I know being over 50 is a bit late to start but it has really helped me adjust and has a fantastic calming effect. I found your videos from seeing some of Peter Chan’s Canada trip and I have to say your videos and information is just out of this world! I am now a fan of yours so thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with newcomers like myself. Can I please ask a question, where did you get that lovely looking brass rake from, it looks amazing, would love to have one if they are available, if not then I can always dream ha ha. Absolutely in love with your Larch forest.

I know that for a training tool you seem to think that wire is like the Japanese feel about using four trees in one pot. Even if you do almost all of your training by clip and grow, there is still some places where wire could be useful. One such place is with those trees that were chewed off by rabbits. you could train the tallest side shoot to a nearly verticle position for a short time. In nature larch trees are strongly upright. they are conifers and usually resemble sruce in appearence. This is very evident in areas where both species share habitats.

Always nice to marvel at your collection. All the year I’ve been following you I am wondering have you ever tried to bonsai an olive tree? They grow slowly but make excellent bonsai material, especially when they mature. Give it a try one day! Cheers Daniel

Hello how often you water also can blue spruce stay indoor under skylight and growing light I started them from seeds inside the house thank you,Robert:)
@TheBonsaiZone2 жыл бұрын
I water different amounts, depending on the weather, in the hot summer, three times a day, in winter much less. It's best to wait until the soil just begins to dry out , then water the tree again. The Blue Spruce should have a cold winter too keep the tree dormant. This is best for the long term health of the tree.

Sir we don't get bonsai soil, can we use ordinary garden soil mixed with construction little stones, using small flat pots and repotting at intervals trimming tap root and combing and trimming lateral roots, I would love to make a bonsai
@TheBonsaiZone3 жыл бұрын
Sounds good Renu, it sounds like you are doing all the right things to create a nice bonsai! The soil you are using is probably best for your climate and growing conditions.
