My SMILE LASIK Laser Eye Surgery Experience

I had ReLEx SMILE LASIK, the latest generation of Laser Eye Surgery last month. I kindly received this treatment free of charge from London Vision Clinic in thanks for me documenting my journey through this video.
Despite me being a competitive skydiver, I admit I was still scared to do the surgery! However, as it turns out, there's nothing to it! It's an incredibly quick, painless and super safe procedure.

Glad it went well for you and I hope the results are still good. I’m in New Zealand and had the SMILE procedure on Monday (four days go). It’s only been a few days since I had it and I’m so stoked that I got it done! I was -7.25 and -7.00 and the next day at my post op appointment I had 6/6 (20/20) vision and was cleared for driving. Earlier in the year I went skydiving for the first time, so I’m looking forward to trying it again without any contact lenses!

Thank you for that informative video. 10 days before I also had a Relex Smile surgery but since that I have especially problems with my near vision. I see things blurry, especially text passages for example looking at my smartphone. Did you have same symptoms ? If yes, how long took the recovery time to have a clear near vision?

Maren Lane very! In fact, if you're still having issues after a year or so then I'd recommend giving the London Vision Clinic (Prof. Reinstein's clinic) a call to see if they can help.

my eye power is -11 in my left eye and - 10 in my right eye...if am eligible for smile surgery...y am asking means am not eligible for femto lasik sergery

I can't comment on your personal eyes but I know that Prof. Dan Reinstein who did my surgery has successfully corrected vision even higher than yours! I'd suggest talking to him and getting a consultation where he would be able to tell you if you are eligable.

how long has SMILE been done in Europe?

Maren Lane not sure on that, from what I remember I think it might have actually been invented in Europe and it's only reasonably recently been done in the US.

Yep, you're right. I was an American guinea pig. Why'd you go with SMILE instead of LASIK? I'm happy that you got a good outcome. :)

Maren Lane just the fact that it's such a minimally invasive procedure, a small keyhole incision compared to cutting a huge flap. The advantages of having less dry eyes and also I do a lot of sports where there could be impact to my eyes, hence SMILE allowed me to get back to my sports within 1 week rather than like several months.

None what so ever. It's been over 3 years now and I'm still extremely happy with it!

Maren Lane I didn't get and halos, minor glare for about a week or two while my eyes settled but then it was totally fine. How long ago did you have the surgery, and who did you go with?

i went with Dr Tom Tooma, he's a LASIK whiz, but NOT very experienced with SMILE

I'm somewhat comforted that I didn't choose an awful procedure. SMILE does have good outcomes.
