How do you make it so the transition effect is on the other layer for the first example? Like instead the transition will be on the guy you rotoscoped instead of the background

That’s it! You have to cut the part of the clip you want to rotoscope and import it into after effects separate from your other clips. Highly recommend checking out my rotoscope basics tutorial!

I would do a hard restart on your computer, if it's still not working, uninstall > reinstall > restart computer
