Yo! Decided to do a year end Q&A and let you know a bit more about me, also showing you exactly how much I make as a Software Engineer and how much this KZbin channel has generated!
Would really appreciate if you watch the whole vid and not only the money part, I worked hard on it, but I understand if you just want to see the $ stuff.
Anyways enjoy the video!

Unfortunately in the United states everything is way more expensive.. 100K in the US is quite good.. but not increadible... an average rent there is around 2.5 and 3K a month.. which for me its insane... I am making almost as you and I live in the UK.. not sure how much you pay rent there, but here is absolutely crazy.. and in the US i believe its even worse... would be interesting how much rent you pay for your appartement

I love that you're helping younger people focus more on being productive. I think our generation in its entirety has dived into games and let it take over their lives as a coping mechanism - to avoid playing the game of real life. Which comes with discomforts.

"Have a routine in place that you can realistically follow every single day, but also understand that you cannot do everything at once" Exactly! That's exactly what I have been thinking about! You cant do anything at once, you need to be consistent every day. If you try to take everything on then you are just gonna fail and feel like its impossible. If you do things every day you will succed. In my case: If I try to study everything the last minute ill fail. If I study consistently(which I have started doing) I can get A on every single test and get straight As throughout highschool(which I am going to do) and still have time for me left! Consistency is key, you can't do everything at once and balance is key. This was exactly what I needed to hear, thank you! I have been thinking about this and now you confirmed it to me, that I am moving in the right direction! Wise words from a Wise man. Good luck on the rest of the journey that we call Life, Luke :)

Man, I would just like to say that you are definitely in one of the best positions, because. In europe, you are in the top companies that pay the most. In the United States, you can be payed more but the cost of living is ridiculously higher and crime is really, really high too. I know you say you are grateful for where you are at but take a look at all of the other countries in europe. In Portugal, let's say, you get paid 1300 euros per month(with already counting food and etc...) and the average t1 aparment costs around 1000 euros.

Yeah, the compensation might be triple here in the States vs Finland, but what's the difference in cost of living? You move to New York and I imagine you'd pay twice as much for everything, probably more if you wanted a place in NYC that looks as nice as where you live.

thats true! i should have added the expenses into this video too but ill make a follow up video breaking those down from taxes to rent to food etc at the end of the day im still 99.9% sure that a person from US is left with more but its tricky because here we have free healthcare and in the US it costs alot if you get sick and stuff so really hard to compare EU vs US 🤔

@@LukeMadeIt California has the highest taxes in the US and S.F. has the highest taxes in California. $180k is great in New York City but you'd be basically burning all that money in SF. I had interviewed there for Netflix where the Senior Engineer salaries are $500k so I would have taken that but I'd never move to California for less than $200,000. You're younger and single so you might be able to get by with less than a guy with kids like me needs.

3:36 the US salaries could seem huge, but those numbers are pre-taxes, and taxes could be significant in some states. also, in the US there are no retirement payments or healthcare from the government so americans have to take care about it themselves. and the overall cost of living in the US is enormous compared to most other countries, from house prices to things like parking your car in a wrong place is a $600 fine in some places. So, yes it is possible to make bigger money from working in the US, but it takes a lot of lawyers consultations to make it smart.

Actually we are blessed in Europe all we see is 6k figures from the US but no one sees that the life and just day to day costs are 10x higher then versus what we have in Europe, so let that thought set in with 50k per year you are living a very comfortable life in the EU versus I got friends working at big tech companies in the US who make 100-150k per year and struggle to get by because taxes are high and property prices are mad also, there is with good reason why US folk are trying to move to EU whilst keeping their salary
@LukeMadeIt

@@LukeMadeIt break it down even further you will eventually see that us in Europe benefit a lot more specially you guys in Scandinavia bc we get healthcare and etc covered versus in the US it costs a fortune, example an apartment of your style will cost you above 5k per month if not more in the US+ other costs, but then it’s also the reality of how posh you want to live when it comes to saving money, don’t take it as a diss or criticism just saying we are way way way better off in Europe then it might seem to the eye at first through my twenties I thought same that I’d be better off in the US and after working for an US company you see it from another point of view. You said it yourself you got school for free to finish within a few years, that doesn’t exist in the US and most collage kids go into heavy depth if they are not funded

I live with a roommate, tax is 40% in NYC 160k salary tax is what, 35%? so youre left with lets just say 100k, you rent with a roommate for $5000 so you each oay 2.5k 100k - 30k = 70k food, cook at home, ground beef is like $6 per pound lets give the benefit of the doubt someone is reckless and spends $1k on food each month now were at 58k for the year according to google health insurance is 8k per year youre left with 50k after everything is set and done? how is that not more than what im left with since its my yearly income also regarding the school, sure finland is a GREAT place to grow up as a kid, for getting wealthy, not so much BTW for the calculations im only considering stuff that I would personally have as expenses

@@LukeMadeIt it depends on where you are in the US honestly. You can make 20-30k less in other states but your cost of living is way way less. I personally would stay away from New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago. If you ever move to the US and you love the big cities, I recommend Dallas Texas, Orlando Florida, Minneapolis Minnesota, or Raleigh North Carolina. You can make the same amount in these cities without the outrageous living expenses.
