My Solo Winter Car Camping Trip to the Mountains | SOLO CAR CAMPING // In this video, I’ll show you how I comfortably go winter car camping up in the mountains in my Subaru Outback. Since converting my Subaru Outback into an SUV camper, I’m happy to report that my SUV camping setup has been working out pretty perfectly for me each weekend I’ve been camping in it.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been driving up to the mountains for some winter car camping in my Subaru Outback. A lot of you have been asking how I’ve been liking my setup, if I have enough headroom inside, if I stay warm enough camping in my car up in the mountains in the snow and if there’s anything I’d change about my setup. @@ReneaDooserider Yup, still sleeping on the memory foam mattress topper and it held up quite well in the cold. I slept nice and toasty in my car all winter long.

The memory foam can get hard with cold weather, but if you’re laying on it, it stays really warm and soft.

Thanks for watching! It was cold on the outside and super warm and toasty on the side. At first I thought the camp lights would just be a novelty, but they've turned out to be really practical. I can see inside at night with the window shades up without having to run my car, drain my battery and they hardly use any juice on my battery pack. Score!

The CRV all wheel drive system is not as good as the Suburu .... that is why it is patented .... having owned 3 Subies I can tell you I have gone through 12 inches of Snow in Oregon and Jeeps refused to pass me ..., I was the trail blazer .... I would recommend going to All Weather brand of tires .... the tread is similar to snow tires with deeper lugs .... just a suggestion .....Utah Jeff

Beautiful area. Looks like you got more snow in that area than we did here in Colorado. Ugh leaving the vapor caves in Glenwood springs. If you are ever backpacking here this year, the vapor caves are a must. You would love it!

Not sure how cold it got overnight for this particular trip, but I was up at Mount Baker. It was pretty cold overnight while it was snowing, but I was nice and toasty sleeping inside my car. How cool, You got to ride in a snow cat! I don't think I could do the winter camping thing. I do not like the extreme cold. We had a week of it down here in Dallas and it was not enjoyable. Now the rest of the year? I'd love to get up there to the pacific NW and check out the mountains up there in Bigfoot country. Looks like your little Subaru is working out pretty well. That is correct! I go winter car camping in my car without a heater or an electric blanket. I've found that my memory foam mattress topper along with my down comforter make everything plenty warm and cozy in my car...and I'm a cold sleeper.

In the warmer weather, do you sleep with the window covers? I’m thinking about turning my Ford Edge into a suv setup :)

In warmer weather, I'll still put the WeatherTech window coverings up, but switch them to have the silver on the outside so the cool air stays in the car. If it's really hot, I'll put the coverings in all of the windows except the back seat windows. For those windows, I'll put on the Universal Window Sun Shade. They're slightly tinted, provide air flow AND help keep the bugs out.

I doubt it. It was pretty cold out there. One of the coldest nights I've had camping in my car and yet my bedding and body heat kept me plenty warm. Waking up to the snow was a nice treat though.
