I had my inverter and battery installed, it's a 5kva inverter and a 5.5kwa lithium battery. it runs my whole house including aircons for more than 4 hours, it excludes only the geyser and stove. So Eskom se push. yes, it is an R30k battery but it charges up within an hour and a half from almost drained. The setup I have now does not even use half of the battery capacity in the 2 hour load shedding we have. The problem with lead acid and gel batteries is that they need about 8 hours to fully charge and with the current state of load shedding those batteries don't have enough time to charge up in between load sheddings. So that is basically not a practical solution to have, I know that not everyone can afford an R50k system but I went overkill for what I need to keep my house powered up. I could have gone with a much smaller system that would last the 2 hours of kak shedding and only power the most essential stuff, it would have been much cheaper. But my advice is to spend money on a Lithium battery. They charge faster and last longer, and take up less space plus they can be wall or cabinet mounted. Also, look for a hybrid inverter, they can be grid powered or solar powered or both. My aim is to add solar panels at a later stage. The long and short of it is, be careful of what batteries you invest in because the batteries are what runs your house when Eskom can't.🤔

I have 2 of the units, 1 with the Mecer (Mod. Sine-wave) and the other with the MUST Inverter (Full Sine-Wave). The Mecer had lead acid batteries and the MUST had AGM (Gel). In less than 2 years with load-shedding both sets of batteries are pretty much finished. At a cost of around R3,000± per battery that's pretty steep. I would strongly suggest LiFePO4 batteries. However with the Mecer you have no control over the discharge voltage level, but you do with the MUST Inverter (via USB), this means you can control the Depth of Discharge (DoD) to increase the lifespan of the battery, 50% for Lead-Acid and as low as 20% on LiFePO4 (or as recommended by the makers)

@@Boutit031 What worries me is that inverter in the Mercer/Kool/RCT is geared for the charging profile of a AGM/Gel 12v battery. While the Hubble has a BMS system I do have my doubts i.r.o warranty -8 to 10K for a LifePO is large outlay

For lights, laptops & a TV, 300 watts is enough. Just get a 300 watts powerstation (comes with a 300wh lithium battery & pure sine wave inverter) which costs around R4000. 500wh power station costs around R7000.

I have the same inverter but the 750w with only one 100ah battery. I run through the day only the basic like cell charger, rotors and internet dish . What's amazing is through the day only 2 100w solar panels keeps the battery fully charged so this inverter uses very little to run . So I'm impressed with this inverter. I can run it all day just from 200w solar panels and about 3 hours at knight running the TV in the evening

We have installed similar inverters to the DB, they require changeover switches and indicator lights, earthing is also important. We normally only connect lights and separate plugs to this system so neutral separation to relevant circuits is important. Correct supply from DB via a breaker and all extra plugs fitted to an RCD unit on a second separate DB and proper labelling is also required. Remember this is a simulated sine wave, make sure your electronic devices are compatible. Installation needs to be done via a qualified electrician only, otherwise keep it as a standalone plug and play unit.

Correct. People also don't realise that they first need to look at their requirements or needs for that matter before purchasing, if you only want to run lights, TV, decoder, WiFi etc then you need to figure out what exactly you will require for that, but if you want to go an run objects that heat like kettle, stove, that's another conversation. A qualified electrician is also needed as I've seen folks buy investors and damn well go and get the wrong batteries, this really needs a trustworthy electrician and also some basic research from your part. I've installed a 3000 watt invertor with X2 100 batteries, and it lasts for 6 hours running everything in household except for stove and anything else that has element. Deciding now on going solar panels to charge the batteries and completely going what they call off grid, that's pricy but Eskom and our government are forcing us into these situations. A general generator is not the solution, there's noise, pollution and of course it needs fuel that rises as quick as the sun does.

Hi guys, just to clarify on this inverter. It is a great investment. My current setup only has all my light and a few necessary plug points linked to it. No appliances, ie: stove, kettle, fridge, etc. You can add these if you really want. It will be costly as you need more batteries. It is, however, not recommended to add appliances to the inverter as it will drain the batteries quicker.

You will not be able to run your kettle or stove etc off of this setup. the power draw on these appliances are too high for the inverter. The inverter maximum draw is 1440W, a kettle for instance uses way more that 1440W . So this specific inverter will not work for those kinds of appliances.

hi I wanted to find out if you can assist me. my mom has cctv cameras at her house and she would like to keep them on during loadshedding especially when its scheduled to go off in the early hours of the morning. She has a hikvision dvr and 4 cameras around the house but would ideally just like the one camera on during loadshedding in the road. the others are fine to be off as these scoundrels walk in the road in early hours so she would just like to be able to see if anyone accesses the front of the house. The DVR is 12VDC and says 1.5A under the DVR. I have no idea what that means. She doesnt want to spend thousands - is there a UPS that you can suggest that is around R1000-ish. I know the ultimate solution is an inverter and battery but thats like R4000+
@FaizelPatel143

If the the DVR is plugged into a wall socket, you need to run power in that socket. The cheapest would be a small generator or UPS just to run one plug. They are available online or at major retailers.

What you are doing is dangerous. You can't connect your inverter to the DB board like that. You are now energizing your neighbours powerlines as well. You would have to switch off the main switch everytime before loadshedding to prevent your inverter feeding back into the system. You need to connect a transfer switch if you want to connect in this way...but I would not even recommend that. Get a proper inline inverter with anti Islanding. Alternatively, wire up a separate DB board with a breaker that matches the max output current of your inverter and connect your inverter to this secondary DB board. The secondary DB board will be isolated from the main DB board via the output of the inverter.
@abdulmuqsittofie949
@abdulmuqsittofie949 2 жыл бұрын
Most people take the twin and earth feeds for the lights off the breakers and then connect the ups to those feeds. The lights are then powered from the plug under that desk. The connection is done inside the DB board, but the UPS does not supply the DB board. If that were the case, the UPS will shut down because it cannot handle the load of supplying his entire house, never mind the neighbours. You clearly never needed to connect up something like this or you would've known. Now, granted that the connection and methods are not compliant, it is wrong. Dangerous? Not if you know what you doing. It's just too much effort to extend the light supply cables and install a separate DB box for the connection and to properly liable it as well.

@gavincrouch
@gavincrouch Жыл бұрын
15 Ohm 100W resistor will work, connect the resistor to the cable and the other end to the battery terminal for a few seconds first, then connect the cable to the terminal (without the resistor). This charges the capacitor in the inverter before connection, preventing a spark. Some say a lead pencil can also be used, I've never tried it, may be worth a try as the resistors aren't cheap for a once off use.

I have had a similar setup for about 2.5 years, and my batteries now only last 1 hour, so they need to be replaced. They are R2900 each - I may buy Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries for it, which are about R7500 each, but I think I will rather put the money towards a larger system.

@AlphaSniperAcademy
@AlphaSniperAcademy 2 жыл бұрын
Really depends what kind of UPS you're buying and what kind of appliances you're planning to charge bro. If you're going to spend the kind of money you'd spend on a UPS, with a pure sine-wave, which is needed to be safe on most appliances, you might as well invest in an inverter that is pure sine-wave as this will allow you to add batteries to increase your supply. A UPS would be a quick fix for smaller appliances and just to run a couple small appliances and charge your phones during load shedding.

I'm grossly generalizing that most inverters on the market are not Pure Sine inverters, incl the one in the video. PSI are perfect for all appliances even with motors and elements since they closely resemble a Sine wave that is delivered by eskom as well.
