I was unfortunate to be in class that had major behavior problem. There were 3 guys who were just putting in their time until they were old enough to drop out. That didn't mean they were stupid. You can only repeat a grade so many times without becoming bored. Their disrespect for the teachers disrupted the entire class. Out of frustration, the teachers complained to the principal. His solution was to tell the entire class that we were no good and we wouldn't amount to anything. His first couple of sermons brought me to tears. Because of their age, those troublemakers were bigger than any of us. But after while, the principal's sermons made me resentful. Just another wasted class that we were collectively degraded. The worst part was being called useless on a regular basis became a self fulfilling prophecy. Out of the 30 students in my class, only 15 graduated. I was one of the dropouts because I had developed health problems due to stress, not only in school but at home. Bullies are not always other students. Our principal was the biggest bully at my high school.

I well remember my first year at my junior school. The teacher we had hated me and was an absolute tyrant. She marked every piece of work I did negatively. She kept marking a sum wrong. I still remember it it was 7 + 7 =. As hard as I might I could never make it any different than 14. Hpowever she kept on marking it wrong and refused to allow me to advance. Finally The teachers pet deliberately broke one of the the school's rulers. He told the teacher I had done it. So the teacher sent the message she'd deal with me later. I was absolutely petrified when my mum picked me up at dinnertime I told her I was never going to the school again. I ended up telling my mum everything. So that afternoon she went back with me to see the headmaster. My mum told the headmaster everything I'd told her. He was very concerned so he called the teacher into his office. She openly admitted she hated me so the headmaster asked why. She called me a goody goody and resented the fact I always arrived at school smartly dressed. The headmaster then said I clearly wasn't going to learn anything in her class so He moved me out of her class. Her excuse for her always marking that sum wrong was that her answer book said different.

I hated school for grades 3-6. I had an older and younger sister close in age, so often I followed my older sister from teacher to teacher through each year. I was also the “middle child” at home. I grew up feeling that I was “a lost call” -TWICE OVER! In the 7th through 12th grades school was better, as I was at a different school than my sisters, which meant I was not having to “measure up” to my sisters who all had different personalities and abilities. Life at home did not improve until my sisters got married years later.

Been there done that too Becky. Out of 8 of us kids I always felt like the middle child too because I was the slave of the family as far as cleaning and laundry plus always helping to fix meals for a family of 10 which included mom and dad. Mom and I never got along go figure and I always felt like a slave. My other siblings were never treated this way at all. The day after I graduated from high school my mother went into my bedroom packed my clothes up and set me outside the house and I was only 17 years old. I went to a neighbors house and used their phone to call a girlfriend who's parents took me in. My dad was so upset when he found out what my mom did and found out where I was living and came to see me. He was so upset and so was I but it was ok and my new family were very supportive. God was with me and guiding me all the way. Looking back it was the best thing that could have happened and sometimes we don't understand why certain things happen but I had loving adoptive parents that took me in and I turned out not being angry but loved and happy. Sorry for the length of my response but it just came out. God Bless.

He’s supposed to be the adult, if he can’t handle small children taunting him, he’s in the wrong profession.

I’m sorry to admit I truly was a rebel. It was installed in me that respect was something you earned. We had one particular teacher who really enjoyed terrorising pupils. Mini skirts and dresses had just hit the country. We all spent a lot of time shortening our uniforms. Not really short but above the knee. I noticed that this teacher was taken the girls text books placing them on a shelf you had to really stretch to reach up. This caused your dress to also rise, now that was wrong I knew it. When he took my book i refused to stretch to get it. He nearly exploded shouting about doing as I was told and respecting my elders. As l said l was a rebel and told he needed to earn my respect and he had failed. That he was hoping to see the girls underwear. He asked if this was what we believed. If yes to leave his classroom , needless to say only one or two stayed. The rest of us filed out and lined up. Bumping into the deputy headmaster. We all filed back in and called one by one to explain what had happened. The result teacher went on sick leave or skirts were measured no more mini skirts lol

Quite right re the principals statement it is not certain she will do anything. In my experience the teacher like that is dominant and controls the school.

In situations like that, wouldn't it be good if a parent could sit in class ? Specially if it's a parent who defends the child . It sounds like the teacher is also under pressure re grades . Only a B ? 🤔

Parents need to teach children at home it is so important to support children as generally teachers don’t teach the children, basic reading writing and mathematics. Generally books are available first the curriculum.

No wonder he was a new teacher, where was he before, probably somewhere else with the same over powerful teaching ethics, putting gears in those students which could affect them for life. The school took the correct attitude..

I’m not going to excuse an adult who is a bully but I’m not going to excuse the children either. I don’t know when they stopped teaching manners either at home or in school, but it’s needed in society. Bad manners and disrespect begin to wear on everyone after a while. It makes the teachers ambivalent and the students grow up to be adults who don’t have manners, many become bullies themselves. Manners need to be taught again in schools and homes.

School can be frightful, it’s compulsory unless one homeschools. Teachers here tend to be,ieve children belong to them far more than to parents and themselves. I experienced appalling behaviour and cruelty of teachers in relation to my children who were intelligent out of measurement. Children at 5 who saw teacher error.
