OHMYGOD HEY!
Last weekend, I was thrilled to have the chance to return to MY SON'S A QUEER BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO for its gala opening night at the Garrick Theatre in the West End.
Written by and starring Rob Madge, I fell in love with this show earlier this year at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and I think this west end transfer is hugely deserved and incredibly important.
Check out today's new video to find out why I have such love for this production, why I think such a personal story connects to so many people and why simply seeing this show poster on the side of the Garrick Theatre is a monumental achievement.

If they wanted to they could even edit it the way they did in the trailer as if Rob is watching back on the show itself

Because of your review of this when you saw it at the Edinburgh festival yesterday l travelled a hundred miles on a bus and train there, and a repeat to get back yesterday for the matinee. I just had to see it because of what you said about it and your enthusiasm for it. My parents are gone. I had to hide being gay for over fifty years. This show, though too short, opened up so much. I am moved. Thank you for drawing my attention to it.

For 2 weeks I have had "Think of Cheese, Think of Cheese Fondly..." from Rob's 'What if the Government was a musical" Tiktok, in my head and it's driving me insane 😄

As a stagey kid, growing up essentially an only child (2 much older brothers) I so wish I had what Rob had growing up. I used to try and put on shows for my parents (Joseph was my jam) but they just weren’t interested. Regularly got told to go my room. I’m 31 now and am pretty much going it alone. I’m so grateful for my stagey community, so welcoming no matter who you are. Musical con proved that. I never felt so welcome. I saw robs show last week and never felt a connection like it. Everyone needs to see this! ❤️🏳️‍🌈

OMG -You're right! I'm in Palm Springs California, MickeyJo, so I'm probably not going to see this show. But your review was so heartfelt and relatable! As soon as we said a stagey-goodbye at the end of your video, I found "We Will Be Loved Anyway" on KZbin.... and cried & cried. You are right; the song is moving & beautiful! Thanks for letting us know about this gem!

SPOILERS: i saw this on wednesday, and the moment with the puppet theatre was such a well constructed moment. the set up of rob telling us the story, the anticipation that was built from me seeing rob's reaction, waiting to see what the gift was, and the beautiful reveal made my burst into tears. the way rob talked about their awful y3 experiences, only to say "but my family was really fucking supportive" makes it even better. they say the best way to make someone cry is to contrast something sad with something happy, and that idea was used perfectly in the show. obviously the brief stories of bullying were shitty and sad, but the way their family was so uplifting in these dark times, maybe even unintentionally helping them through a dark time, shows how important being supportive is. its also great, because these were just home videos, not meant to convey any drama or suspense or anything, but the way the show is woven around these clips to create this incredible emotion works so well.

Love the t-shirt! We’ll be at Disneyland Paris in a few weeks time as my daughter is singing on stage at the Disney Christmas show with her choir, Only Kids Aloud! I really hope to catch ‘My Son’s A Queer’- it sounds amazing!

Omg soo behind, saw this yesterday, I loved it soo much not gay or lesbian or actually part of the community but a huge ally and I always will be and the message of this show it actually got me when he spoke about the teacher telling him to stop being Cinderella and they’d make friends and hide who they are if that was me I’d be telling the child be their wonderful beautiful self and support them

This sounds like a wonderful uplifting premise and show. I hope it comes to LA. This year I saw Jamie at the prestigious Ahmanson Theater at the Music Center. The same space that Phantom of the Opera took up residence for months decades ago. I hope the Music Center management is able to bring this show to LA. Stay well. 🙏👍😎
