Both our kids were born in the Philippines, but we are danish. We moved back to denmark when they turned 7 and 5. Today i can still see in them the filipino part, cause you can never take out of a kid what they learned in the early days of thier life.

I'm a Filipino American born in the Philippines I came to the states when I was 18 years of age my mother is a British citizen and my step dad is an American, and I am now 47yrs old and my wife is from Mexico and raised in the US but my kids embrace the Filipino culture more because I made myself as good example for them and they experienced and learned the practicality of the Filipino culture, and I also raised them as American Patriots and a productive member of society.

I was born in the Philippines too, moved here to the state when I was 10 in the early 60's. I am now 70, yes 70. my second husband is an american with Irish, Scottish, Mexican background. My kids say they are filipinos. My niece half puerto rican, my nephews half mexicans, they all say they're filipinos nothing else.They grew up eating filipino food. I never forgot to speak tagalog, although when I was going to school, I did forget but I forced myself to speak it, twisted tongue and all. There were no filipino kids in my class in those days. I hung around with white americans, mexican- americans born and bred here , I had black friends even then. I have a friend who is half filipino born in the Philippines, came here when she was 3 yrs old. her father was American stationed there. We hung out, she was the first friend I met in grammar school. We still are friends up to this day. I don't understand why some filipinos just want to forget where they came from, refusing to speak tagalog when they came as older kids. We are unique! Have you seen The God Culture series youtubes? It's why I say we are unique.

@Yk-if3ev4 жыл бұрын
@@ceyx1201 I disagree. It should be sari-sari rather than sarisari since it is not a noun. It was a combination of adverb and a verb functioning as an adjective (closely related to verbals, but not a verbal) to define the store. While you can be right on your explanation regarding the etymology of the word, however, the doubling of word is a typical characteristic of the Philippine Austronesian heritage. It is not about the root word per se but the context on how it was used.

@@ceyx1201 it was sari-sari not sarisari kahit sa libro makikita mo yan ay nku
@Yk-if3ev4 жыл бұрын
Sari-sari is a modern adaptation of the word to avoid confusion since the Filipino language has so many repetitive words. The confusion is due to the adoption of Roman letters vis-a-vis the baybayin including clustered words functioning as one word. Examples of clustered words but spelled two words in Roman letters: In Roman letters "dala dala, sari sari, iba iba, (ma)rami rami". But in baybayin it is one word. In order to remove the confusion, the Filipino language used hyphenation.

I guess the most appropriate term is not Fil-Am, but Am-Fil instead because Fil-Am are for American citizens of Filipino descent, like those of African Americans, Chinese Americans, Korean Americans, etc. But I know that the term Am-Fil does not ring a bell because it sounds like a generic medicine for headaches and inflammation, LOL. But it is what it is. Welcome to the Philippines. I'm Filipino of Chinese descent and I'm telling you that in spite of the poverty, corruption, and ills in our society, this country has a soul and that, for me, is far more important than wealth and power. Filipinos will embrace you without a doubt.

So true about what you said about the Philippines - far more important than wealth. I am Pinoy been living here in the US for over 30 yrs. Made really good life here with a house in MD and a condo in VA beach. But all that material things mean nothing if you're not happy. I am very happy now just thinking and considering my future move back to the Philippines, Sindangan Zamboanga del Norte my choice. I am giving up all luxury for a simple life in a province surrounded by beautiful nature. Yes I can assimilate as I am used to hardship in life.

@Big Mouth @ Big Mouth, Anti Dymarip (word play on pyramid?) claims to be Filipino of Chinese descent and my impression is that the person is simply proud of his/her identity. He/she is simply letting everybody knows their pride as a Filipino and I respect and admire them for it. There are more of them in the Philippines with similar traits and values, and that's a good thing too. Oh btw, this person never mentioned about land grabbing or any changing the countries' identity... just saying!
