In this video I will reveal my sound design workflow when designing new sounds with the Sequential Prophet 6.
The same methodology can be applied to any subtractive synthesizer, hardware or software.

As a beginner with the Prophet (not a beginner with synths exactly), this video is awesome. Super practical. There are a million ways to use this thing, and here's a guy showing you his method complete with looking at a couple interesting quirks of the synth.

These effects are really useful. They get such a bad rap sometimes but I really like them as an onboard and ready to go option. Great sounds man. I've had mine since release and have been back in hole with it of late. Thought I'd check in online to see how it has aged. Still my go to. So proud to own one of these beauties!

I’ve been banging my head against the wall for months trying to figure out what my first true poly synth was going to be.. prophet 10, ob6, moog one. . . now I know, it’s the prophet 6 Thanks for that!

Hey Justin, thanks for watching and for your comment. Glad to hear the video helped you decide which synth to purchase. The Prophet 6 is fantastic and you will enjoy it for many years to come :)

dont rule out the take-5, just about as good sound, vcos and p5 filter, but much deeper mod matrix with fm and effects. looping envelopes, morphing waveshapes from sine to thin pulse. no vca though, and i feel like maybe the p6 has a special character that the t5 may lack. although the t5 has its own insanely good character

hey there, thanks for this inspiring video - my question would be why you solve subdivisions over a pulse in arp mode via the clock speed and not set the clock to the original tempo and set the note value section accordingly (for example to 8th notes) - Is this just personal preference or does this make a difference in sound?
@Audiotent
@Audiotent 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching :) glad to hear you found the video inspiring. The idea behind doubling up the clock speed from the desired tempo is so you can access the fastest possible arp speed with the Prophet especially when choosing 32nd as the rate. Great for getting the fluctuations you hear in the drone example.

Oooo that is a difficult choice to make. Both have their differences and strong points other than the obvious polyphonic vs duophonic. The Moog is the king when it comes to bass, even though the Prophet 6 is definitely no slouch in that department. However, the Prophet really excels for pads, especially given the onboard FX.

Thanks for a great, thorough primer on this instrument. If I may add some constructive criticism... your eyes should appear in the upper half of the screen. Take a look at news anchors, this establishes authority and the alternative is that you look shorter than you probably are.

A great synth that covers a lot of ground. As you would imagine with a poly synth it excels at pads and leads. But I’m always surprised how well it delivers bass.
