Im I the only person that hates hard books? They not uncomfortable to hold to you?

Yeah they are uncomfortable to hold!!! I typically prefer paperback but I will get a hardcover if I have to. When my hand starts to hurt I just place them down on something (my lap, arm of the couch, bed, desk, etc.) & just gently place my hand in the middle of the pages over the binding to hold it in place.
