Great information thanks, good luck building the new layout .

Thank you! The plan is to basically reuse the old one, but I might update some of the building and lighting.

They out did themselves with that smoke i give it a 10 nice and heavy and was on point too

Agreed! I actually had to replace the smoke unit fan motor in the Lionel Corporate Tinplage 1835E. It uses the same smoke unit as their O scale models and its great!

lionel did make a tinplate blue comet in o gauge, but it's done in the late box couplers and the cars are ugly. you can piece together a nicer set using the #s 263e for the engine, and for the cars 710 and 712. the blue variants even have 6-wheel trucks. i personally dislike the nickel trim and cast drive wheels of the 263e so if you don't care about the engine not being blue, a 260e will better fit the style. it's technically correct for the time period as well, as lionel offered the blue comet with a black 392e in 1933. it's nice to see standard gauge videos that aren't just an old guy filming his table with an engine on it for 10 minutes before turning on the power. so much nicer to see someone actually handling them too. too many people treat these things like museum pieces when they're just old toys. sick collection and i can't wait to see more. definitely look into getting some 500 series freight cars for your original 1835e as those are what it would've pulled back in its day. i'd also look into some of lionel's beautiful electric engines like a 10e and orange 9e. those can be found in lionel classics as well and their vibrant colors are required on any standard gauge setup. takes a lot to get a comment out of me so thanks and cheers!

Thank you so much for the comment and all the information! I also think the original O gauge blue comet cars leave a little to be desired, so I'll definitely take a look at what you suggested! My grandfather has a huge collection of standard gauge (that's where most of my collection came from), but he doesn't have a layout, so they just sit in their boxes. Maybe I'll work with him to bring a couple of his engines over and run them. Thanks again for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed!

Quick question how much did u pay for the blue comet ?
@cwhall012 ай бұрын
@TrasTrains259 I'm actually not sure. It was given to my family by my grandfather as a Christmas gift many years ago. I've seen people trying to sell these reproduction sets for like $5000 but I don't think they are worth nearly that much. Sorry I'm not too much help here.

The jersey central never had passenger cars with six wheel trucks so the twelve wheel cars are not prototypical. But I still like the lionel blue comets no matter what the scale. I have the one that came out in I believe 1977 and it's cars also had the six wheel trucks.

@jeromekrajcovic2467 I never knew that the CNJ didn't have three axle trucks. Good to know! For the tinplate stuff I wouldn't expect it to be prototypical, but I'm surprised that newer models still use the wrong trucks. I'm sure it has to do with cost savings. But I'm sure whenever Lionel makes a PRR P70, they'll have CNJ versions. It won't be perfect but it might be closer.
