Hi from Russia. It's nice that You is feeling better. Also nice, that Your boat is mostly white now. When it was dark blue, this light blue paintings were noticed well. And the boat was looking like a small motor vessel. Now it's little bit more accurate and more alike as a motor yacht. Sorry, that You're lack in time and money. It's a pity, that they pushed Your boat. Nice that You try to manage 2 projects. Looking forward for Your success in boat travelling, not only boat repairing. Good luck!

When you overplate a hole on a steel hull. it's normal practice to weld the inside also. i have never heard of just welding the outside. and i have been a ships engineer i the Danish merchant fleet most of my life.

Why cut out the damaged section at all? Why not just weld the patch over the area, there did not appear to be any issues inside the boat?
@ThomasEJensen_TEJ

@@TheHsan22 I wouldn't. due to it creating a air pocket, between the old hull, and the plate. and i can't be sure that there is no micro cracks in the bend section of the hull that would let moist inside. it's all about eliminating future rust.

I would stay away from that yard. Half assed blocking and rigging are just not acceptable when working around boats. They should either know their job or get in another line of work. The first thing you do when lifting a boat is go inside and definitely locate and measure where the ribs are, the engine, the stuffing box and anything you don't want to crush like transducers and prop shafts. That they continued to pick the boat when it wasn't balanced is an indicator of how little they knew or cared. They should also at the very least repaired the damage they caused not just walked away. Never know what they will damage next time.

I've never lifted any big boats but I've worked with cars and on them it's very important where you place the jack and the stands. I imagine boats has secure lifting points too just like cars. I don't think I would like to be working under that boat as it was handled in this video.

Not true, the rigging was sufficient and the keel collapse was due to galvanic corrosion of the hull. Not sayings she is gonna sink but it wouldn't be difficult to put a hole in her if she hits something square enough while underway.

Almost like a tour boat now - people will start asking for rides 😄 So sorry about that keel dent, but you got the mussels scraped and the antifouling done, that is good. If they used the same straps when lifting out of the water, as into the water, my guess is that the two straps is not exact same length, and then they switch the straps front to back when lifting out of water, and into the water. Therfor the boat leaning forward when splashing. If this straps was close to it's weight limits, you may be very lucky the front strap did not snap off by the incorrect weight distribution that the leaning caused.

Wurth makes great products. I use them a lot being an auto tech for the last 25+ years. Unfortunately they're products aren't as readily available here in the states as they are over there but I can still get them. I think that primer will hold up well. It is looking better, shame the yard is so rough with people's property. Seems like they don't care as much as they should, and should've been much more careful on their placement of the stands/ blocks. Should've used one on either 'flat' of that center rib to more evenly distribute the weight. Not cool, but I'm glad you got it repaired. Unfortunately you didn't have time to fill those low spots with filler. Some Duraglass or similar ultra fine chopped strand fiberglass filler would be the best followed by a lightweight filler/ glaze to get rid of the smaller pinholes/ imperfections. Body work isn't quick, but when you do the prep properly you can count on a great end result.

Dear MFB guy. Maaan, you definitely had a lot Murphy's law going on. I'm really glad that you are as healthy as before meanwhile. Congrats! 😱 The workers/crane operators are definitely no professionals. Not even one hard stand was put in the right position = the strongest parts of the hull = right along the meeting respectively seam between the vertical board wall and the aslant underwater steel plates. Additionally it should definitely have been 4 high stands! I really hope that the boatyard did compensate you for this totally unnecessary damage! 2) Please kindly allow me to suggest, that you also weld the inner seams between the old and new steel keel pieces water tight. 3) Next time the boat is on dry land, the hull should be inspected like Sailing Melody was. They found a lot of too thin steel. Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and health in particular.

Hi you're doing well considering all the challenges you have had. I am also glad to hear you are also feeling better. Re the patch in the hll. The cover patch it not a great idea as it is under the water line. What will happen is that water can seep between the two layers of steel and rust where you can not see it and manage it. Also you are completely reliant on a single sided weld to keep the water out you should have double continuous welds from both sides of the plate to be water safe. I recommend you watch Damon from "The Burped Project" patching his steel boat. De goes into a lot of detail how it is done correctly and has some awesome tips of fitting patches into holes. I hope that helps Take care D

The boat looks a hell of a lot better with that fresh coat of paint in the hull. Even though you didn't get what you wanted to do done, I would say a definite yes to that it was still worth it with just that paint alone. Just that fresh coat of paint hid those deep gouges in the blue paint and made them less obvious. I would of been really damn angry when they crushed in the hull. Also I am guessing when they went about using the slings to put the boat back in they mixed them up, front to back. The slightly longer one needed to be at the rear. Sad that you couldn't get what you needed to do done, especially with the barge :(

Hope you are feeling better and your health is improving. Making the most of an unfortunate set of circumstances. Did the yard compensate you for the damage: $$$$ to cover the repair, extended time at no charge, parts/tools/materials in kind or in need for future projects to offset this unnecessary time & expense to repair? Lessons learned about blocking, ribbing, steel thickness. If you get a chance check out KZbin Project Brupeg, rebuilding a sunken steel trawler. Damian has demonstrated several techniques to repair damaged or corroded sections of the steel hull. In previous videos, he did the port side. In upcoming episodes, he intends to have the yard's welder do the starboard side. Damian did a welded grid support system. Then intends to drill holes in the external plate. Those holes will align with sections of the grid. Weld the plate to the boat's external frame. Fill-in welds in the holes and grid plates. Grind, rust coat, prime, antifoul, paint. Recommend stitch weld the inside. Also add and weld internal bracing to beef up and support the two external plates. Might be overkill. Making the most of a difficult situation, you prioritized projects: toilet seal, steering cable, steering stuffing box/bolts, grinding/prime paint the top half, grind, prime and antifoul below the waterline. Not perfect but more appealing.
