Joy, I just want you to know that I love your videos and it makes me want to start sewing clothes. When I watch you I can smile and laugh and just feel happy, happy, happy. You are so far above me in sewing and altering I just don't think I could do those things. But, you make me want to try. I do wish you would do quilting videos as, in reviewing a lot of your videos, I see such beautiful quilts hanging in your sewing room. And, I do mean beautiful!! Joy, I love your enthusiasm and great seeing tips! I'm not sure why you feel the need to apologize...your blog, your opinion! Thank you for your candid opinions on all things sewing, please don't let the "backlash" politicize you to a brand. Just remember there is a video for every problem at SFD, and Glenda is very, very helpful. Clear a table somewhere so you can spread out and leave it out. You will do lots of drawing. Be patient. Put the paper pattern up to your body and make sure it covers as much as it needs to. Be prepared to tweak several times. MEASURE CAREFULLY and have fun.

This is great info! I’ve sewn off and on over the years, with mixed results. I finally got tired of spending time, effort and money on sewing something that didn’t fit. Went to my library and found Fit For Real People, the Palmer/Pletsch tissue-fitting method. I’ve learned a lot about patterns and what I need to do to get a better fit. I purchased a McCall’s Palmer/Pletsch fitting pattern for the sheath dress. I’ve been using Swedish tracing paper, thank goodness, otherwise the original tissue pattern would be in tatters. It’s been a struggle to get the bodice to fit.....still working on it.... I’ve been seriously considering getting the SureFit Designs system, and after seeing this, I think I’ll have more success with starting with that

I have used the P&P method and Surefit Designs together for years. SFD will get you very close, and P&P will help you perfect any other issues. Best wishes!

That blouse was originally a Silhouette Patterns blouse. I removed the collar and made it a V-Neck and designed it with my SFD Dress Kit.

Why can't you watch DVD's? You can watch over 300 videos free on KZbin. Just search Surefit Designs or go to surefitdesigns.com and look for the videos.

Joy, I purchased a SFD pattern for $10.00 and all I got were 3 sheets, no pattern. I'm very disappointed.😫😫😫

You have to DRAW your pattern according to your measurements. A lot must have been missing from your package. A book and a lot of templates come with it.

I LOVE YOU !!! I watch your videos and think...she could have gone on for hours more, WHY does she shop and make plans for lunch ??? Anyway, I sew obviously not as well as you but, I want to get into quilting after watching your videos on Sure Fit Designs and making pants and getting started...can you give me any advice on getting started in quilting. Again, I do sew and have the idea to do a quilt with pictures printed on the squares and then putting them together. How would you get started. I am disabled and funds are very limited, but this quilt is for a country music organization that started 30 years ago and I want to observe that with a quilt. THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE !!! did I mention I LOVE YOU ... I even turned to my neighbor and told them..."It's Joy's blog" !!

Joy, Shame on you! You kept me up until two in the morning watching your older videos! Well, could have been the snoring bear next to me in bed! I am close to your age and have been sewing since I was 11 years old by machine and before that by hand. I am a very bright and creative person,but I have what I call mathematically based panic attacks lol :) So when I have watched the Sure-Fits designs videos on YT I try to figure out ---if I purchased the system would I ever in the world be able to figure it out without palpitations!? I am being funny, but seriously I admire your sewing and math skills!

Good Grief! I took you to mean it might be too complicated for a beginner! You know there are a couple of really good suggestions, start with lounge type pants, use a long stitch so it is easier to pick out, do nt be a perfectionist . Since our bodies change we are always adapting. I have let perfectionism keep me from enjoying my sewing for many years. Now I just relax, and try to do differently on the next project.
