I am named Maria as well. I live in the US in Topeka, KS. I LOVE you and your vlogs so much. Swedish traditions are simple,, heartfelt and beautiful. I love the window decoration idea! Simply gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your life with us...especially those of us in the US. Our country is so focused on ourselves and our self importance, it is nice to see how other countries live such better lives, because their focus is on living a good life without all the “things” Americans feel are important. If it weren’t so cold there, I would love to live in Sweden. Perhaps it’s because my ancestors came from Switzerland and part of them lives in me. 😉
@Happybidr4 жыл бұрын
When you’ve lived in different countries as I have, you’ll find that in each one, the citizens are all focused on themselves. That should not surprise you. Don’t get caught up any more in the whole Self hatred crap that some espouse. I was lucky enough to not just visit other countries but to also go to their schools in elementary school, so I got a greater sense of how people really, truly feel about themselves, their country and other countries. And guess what? They all think that their country is the greatest. And they’re not embarrassed about it, nor should they. I think every citizen of every country should think that way about themselves. Also, don’t buy into the notion that everyone hates America and Americans. They’re not fixated on us, but when asked, they might mimic some opinion but mostly they’re fine with us. And many Europeans rightly remember that were it not for huge amounts of money and many, many lives devoted and sometimes lost in both World War I and World War II, without us they might be speaking German now. Many want us to continue to prosper if not for any reason other than outside their own country and surrounding neighbors, American is one of if not their biggest single market for their products. And they are happy to enjoy many American inventions (like the Internet, and KZbin, lol).

I watched your Christmas tradition videos at the start of November. I fell in love with your paper stars. As we were visiting the UK at the end of November, I begged to go to IKEA to try to find one. It's now hanging in my large front window. The family kept trying to persuade me to buy the small star, but my heart was set on the big lacy one. It looks absolutely fantastic! On the fireplace, there's a family of tomtar. There's also candles burning, the fire is aglow, and despite the dark, it's so warm and cosy inside.

To be honest, it's been a few years since I'd like to find 3 scandinavian Xmas decoration I like : the straw goat (don't ask me why, I like it xD ), the star (I saw some at Ikea and I buy stuff from there but, I don't know, I don't want to buy this there as everybody) and the candle carousel (I also would like to find second hand or from a small shop but not some huge online store), that they could be a little more personal, so I continue my search :) P.S. So lovely the image with Doris and Magda on the armchair next to the fire place ^_^

I've never seen those paper stars here in Italy. They're very pretty! We have a different yet deeply ingrained tradition, which is to recreate the scene of Betlehem when Jesus was born. We usually try to recreate a nice village, with many small figures of bakers, farmers, fishmongers etc, and even some electronic stuff like functioning springs of water etc. (Usually it is not very historically accurate, since we even put a lot of fake snow which I don't think really was in Betlehem... but it's christmassy!). God Jul Maria
