Digimon makes me feel so old. I think it’s still running in Japan as some waters down kids show (it’s always been for kids but today there is no effort). I watched the first season, zoned out with s2, really got into tamers, and I’m one of the few who liked frontier. Idk what they did after… I still get goosepimples for the first movie. I know it was full of ads but my child brain didn’t care. Those cheesy early 00s songs still bop.

Grandia 2 is an all time classic! Nothing will come close to that sense of adventure that the first had, but 2 is a blast and I know you'll love it. My Switch backlog is about 20 games deep as well, but I'm slowly going through them as I get time. I really miss gaming in the 90s where most RPGs were under 50 hours, and most action/adventure games could be finished in a weekend. Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG were the perfect length for an RPG IMO. I still enjoy these epic games like Xenoblade 3, but as a working adult its impossible to finish all the ones I'm interested in.

I have some of the games you talked about, and especially the Super Mario 3D All Stars I still need to finally finish Sunshine and Galaxy. Mario 64 I had already finished before as a kid not too long after I got it for Christmas of '96 when I was just 8 years old, it became my first game I ever beat.

Really loved hearing about your pile of shame. I am actually working through Kaze and the Wild Masks and the last world has been fairly difficult for me. Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair does have a challenging final level but they included a checkpoint system in the final level so you have a better chance of working through it for your first play through. While it made it easier, it was still a bit challenging but I still wholeheartedly recommend Impossible Lair.

@@civilwarfare101 There are 4 checkpoints. What's really nice about them is that if you pass more than one, you can start at whichever checkpoint you would like and work to improve your bee shield before you take on the final boss.

FF12 has been on my pile of shame too. I tried it when it was first released. I quit because I thought if I was playing a MMO type game that I might as well go play a regular MMO. I started playing Zodiac Age and am enjoying it. The battle system is fun. The story is different than I’m used to so I haven’t fully formed my opinion yet. You mentioned you were concerned on the difficulty. There is a little bit of difficulty in a couple fights in the first 10-12 hours. I’m close to 20 hours in and it’s getting easier. Good luck on the pile of shame.

I also have a huge backlog, it's a mountain that's on the verge of becoming a mountain range. 😆Regarding Persona 5 Strikers, it successfully transitions the gameplay into an action RPG format. Using buffs, debuffs, and hitting enemy weaknesses is still a big part of the battle strategy and fusing new Personas for Joker to use will still allow you to adjust your strategy based upon an enemy's elemental affinities. You're in for a fun experience when you play it.

Love your list! Although It breaks my heart when I hear of ppl who don’t finish Final Fantasy X. (I’m biased because it’s my fav FF game plus I really love that ending lol). Although I understand, that late game difficulty spike is notorious for making ppl quit. Also since you already played X-2, that bittersweet ending of X isn’t going to hit you as hard. My biggest complaint of X-2 is (Spoilers for those who never finished X-2) while I’m glad you can bring Tidus back (assuming you got the good ending) it lessens the impact of X’s ending. Almost like it exists to satisfy those who wasn’t satisfied with X’s depressing ending just to give us a happy one.

I also set myself the challenge of playing Final Fantasy 1, as it was the first one, and my (impossible) plan is to play them all in order until I get to the most current ones one day. But I'll give you a sugestion, which worked for me, before playing the Pixel remaster version... take a look at the PSP version, analyzing all the versions it was the one that seemed best to me, I played it on the emulator on the PC (connected to the TV) so it was the same as playing a console version, and I can say: the pixel art of the enemies in the PSP version is absolutely beautiful, I think it's the best of all, it's a visual delight, much better than the simple ones in the pixel remaster. and the PSP version comes with extra dungeons around the map (which debuted in the GBA version), which for me was the highlight of the game, super challenging, and looks like the pixel remaster doesn't have these extra dungeons. So my message is this: do at least a little research on the PSP version, maybe it would be better for you too. My plan is soon to also play the 2nd game on the PSP version, the 3rd I think I'll try on the 3d remakes.

Some of the stuff in XC3 is magical. Hot tip, do not spoil anything before going into it. No story, no music, no art, no guides, no nothing. Your experience is going to be so much stronger, some of the storybits are very hardhitting. Love that game!

I really like your idea of planning out games. If I take my existing backlog I'll be into my retirement before I'm caught up. I'm actually doing Persona 5 Royal now the way I'm doing it is by doing a Calendar playthrough. I play one week of in game time every week. It makes that daunting 130+ much more manageable.

Really curious about what your opinion of Grandia 2 is. I love Grandia, one of my favorite experiences on the Saturn. There are people who love Grandia 2 but i had a hard time getting into it. The graphics were less beautiful with the poly 3d and more edge Cloud-esque protagonist. But! Maybe im missing something.

I've played the first 10 hours of Chrono Cross three times for PS1 but stopped each time. I've beaten DBXV2 and both of the Digimon Cyber Sleuths within the last couple months, they're really fun! The second Cyber Sleuth runs alongside the first, which I think is really cool. You run into your old character at certain points in the game. Grew up on FFX/X-2, so Yuna's journey in both games means a lot to me, I'm sure you'll love. FFXII takes some getting used to, but it's great! FF1 is cute too! The first Ni No Kuni is totally on my pile of shame. I got it in 2020 when I first bought my Switch and I'm stuck fairly early in the game. P5R is solidly on the backlog because it's such a commitment and I doubt I'd wanna play anything else once I get started, same with Xenoblade 1. I also wanna get into Super Mario Galaxy! The Grandias are on the wishlist, I'll get em when they're on sale on the eShop and I have a little scratch. Your channel is rad btw! Up the grown lady nerds!

Im here because of Happy Console Gamer! Keep up the good work. Im excited to hear how you feel abour FF 1-6 pixel remaster. I played the origianl FF 1, 2, 3 north american releases as a kid. I never got a chance to play the other 3. Right now im working my way to last dungeon of each game. The plan is to beat all 6 on the same night!

I just beat ff1 the other day, this is not a spoiler, but i wish i knew the spell temper's effect stacks and you can use it more than once in the same character yadayadayada . Hope you have fun on that one. I love Mario, but i do think you might apreciate odissey more after beating the 3d collection.

Final Fantasy 12 is so awesome most especially the summons…love Leo, Aries, Aquarius, Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn & etc…I really love P5Strikers…😁Xenoblade2, Xenoblade definitive edition & Torna…XC3 is also great…😁Happy Console Gamer got me to like & sub this channel…kudos😎

Ive made peace with not needing to finish a game. Im more about the gameplay and am ok woth jumping into a game to enjoy the gameplay rather than worry about completing the story.

Final Fantasy 12 is one of my top 5 or so JRPG’s of all time! Ni no Kuni 2 is not terrible by any means, it’s actually pretty good, just not on the level of the first one

I actually decided to focus on my backlog and I'm playing Ni No Kuni 2. It's a fantastic game. The kingdom building part of it is really fun and it's just as charming as the first one imo

I'll talk about a few of the games mentioned or anything I have an attachment towards: Xenoverse is a weird one, I would play those games but the MMO nature of them I find offputting, they don't seem to be a traditional single player game like Kakarot from what I have seen and heard of it even Fighter Z's story mode sounds more appealing by comparison. I played FF12 many years ago and I recall liking it, I think I mainly liked it for some of the characters and the rich and political world. I don't care for real life politics but fictional politics is more interesting to me which is why I respect 12 more now. Funny how you own Kaze and the Wild Masks, I recently bought the game on PS5(through backwards compatible PS Store) on a PS Plus discount since I recently played Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and loved and was looking more games like it. I also want to play Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair too but keep holding it off along with games like Celeste. I really like 2D platformers but I really suck at them, when they are firing on all cylinders and are great they are some of the most engaging games I can find. I also like you when it comes to playing a faster pace game after an RPG but I prefer to play shooters and particularly FPS games instead since I am more accustomed to those than 2D platformers. As for Mario, I enjoyed Oddessy but I felt the first half of the game was kind of boring, but the New York level and onwards was pretty good. I like the homage to open 3D collectathon platformers the game was, you had a wide moveset and mobility and now you go wild trying to collect as much as you can. I played Mario Galaxy, that and Galaxy 2 are my favorite 3D Marios. I don't like 64 very much and Sunshine had some super frustrating and unpolished moments. Still better 64 with that said.

I bought Kaze And The Wild Masks a while back to feel like I was supporting Brazilian developers since I'm originally from there. Sadly I admit that I'm not great at platformers even though they are one of my favorite styles of games. This game is not just difficult in my mind. It's made to frustrate and make me not want to play again. I tried several times to get into it and it's the same thing over and over. I would be very curious to hear an honest opinion on this game.

I'm on the verge of selling it coincidentally (PS4) and poss just getting it on sale on the PS store ( it's under 4 bucks digitally) even though I love having my physical games. I just suscribed to your channel after seeing you on the Happy Console Gamer video. On that video, John recommended you Ys 8, and I really second that, probably one of the best Ys games. However, going a bit further with Falcom titles, I really think you should give a try to the Trails series. Even though it's a big commitment, it's really worth it, specially if you start from the first game, Trails in the Sky. About Cafe enchante, my wife has played it and she thinks that in general is not that great. The route she thinks was more interesting was Misir Rex. She also recommends Piofiore or Collar x Malice as good Otome games.

@@femtrooper I just checked your review of Cold Steel 1. To be honest, I personally conisder Cold Steel 1 the worst Trails game. The only thing it has going for it for new players is that this one is in 3D and most players don't like the 2D sprites of the previous games. Just to put some context, Trails is a weird series. Games are usually divided in pairs, a set up game and a payoff game. This means that you will visit mostly the same places with a few additions in the payoff game. The reason is because Falcom had to divide the first game in 2 parts because they couldn't finish it in time, and they needed to release what they had. The Trails series is a continuous story, so even though the main conflict can get resolved in an arc, there is a main plot that is present in all games. You started on the 6th game of the series without the context of the previous games, which would have make CS1 a little more interesting (not much though). You should give a try to at least Sky FC and SC which are the setup of the series. Sky 3rd is an epilogue, but if you don't like FC and SC, it won't change your opinion. Sky 3rd acts mostly as the setup for the rest of the series and it's a very different game from the others.
