Hey Volks! I got some requests to give my opinion on the VW Super Bowl Commercial that aired during the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers Game. There was a little bit of controversy surrounding the actual 75 Year history of VW in the USA, but I hope I clear that up for you here in this video.

Hey Chris, We have a '56 oval that's been in the family 57 years. My wife's grandmother, who passed away in 1968, would not ride in it because she called it a "Hitler" car. I'm restoring the interior now. I drive it to car shows, and I once passed an 18 wheeler on the freeway!

My 2 cents on the commercial...I don't think any of us involved with the classic VW scene didn't shed a tear at that commercial...it was really well done. The problem is that we're getting all emotional about what VW *used* to be. If the only way they can get people to even look at their milquetoast also-ran product line of today is to remind people of the days so long ago now when they made simple, reliable, well-built, affordable cars with character, then they have a major problem on their hands that I honestly think they'll never solve

The new electric VW models aren’t necessarily also-ran models in comparison to what others are. It’s true that VW models do not stand out the way they once did, though, and I think VW’s Škoda brand might more in line with what the American Market wants.

Hey folks, me as a german and owner of a classic 56 ragtop beetle, dont unterstand that brand anymore.. They should focus again to build a peoples car. I mean, even with calculated inflation a 1966 VW Beetle 1500 was (5300 DM back then) 12.874.- Euros. How on earth do they believe that a 65000,- Euro ID Buzz would be a success? I mean, what do they smoke in the management department? Even the big hope, the ID 2 All, will be an at least 20000,- Euro Car and EV only..

The commercial was fantastic, right up until the Buzz kill at the end🤨. I just read an article that talks about Volkswagens huge bungle going all electric. They are barely at 2% profit currently. No one is buying lol.

I have always wondered why there was so much hate for Volkswagen as a brand early on I didn't hear about so much hate when Honda and Toyota first came to the United States and those Japanese companies even though they weren't called that at the time but the founders of those companies were involved in making war making devices are part of the Japanese push to take over Asia and people forget that they were partners with the Germans during wartime but it's okay to own a Toyota but it's not okay to own a Volkswagen which I think is just very ironic especially since the Japanese bombed Pearl harbor. I think the video was very nostalgic Volkswagen has always been very good at doing commercials and I think the cars are very good and very underrated and for some reason get a very bad reliability rap so many people still stay away from them. My Dad still drives my Grandfather's 60 beetle convertible that my Grandfather bought in 1963. I drive a VW Golf and I like VW as a brand. No car is perfect that is for sure and not for fully electronic only options but it is what it is sadly🙄

Good video and commentary Chris. From what I've read in several books, Hitler did not invent the KDF Peoples Car or even come up with the original idea to create a German People's Car. The People's Car movement was already underway in many countries of Europe. In Germany, Hitler co-opted the movement as part of his political plan to win over the people. Several companies competed to have their designs selected by the Nazi Party. One of these companies was the GENERAL MOTORS OPEL DIVISION in Germany. So maybe GM should come clean in all their commercials about their Nazi past haha.

It was a very good commercial and played on the emotions of those of us that grew up with VWs. I have quite a few air cooled models that I drive quite a lot. I also have a 2015 GTI. But when I went to buy a car this year, I purchased a Ford Bronco. Vw has a full lineup of rental cars today, and I’ve no interest in purchasing any of them. Makes me a little sad - I have friends that are into VWs and will only buy VWs, no matter what they sell. But there are fewer of those folks every year.

I loved the commercial and it reminded me of growing up in the 1960s. As for the dark past of VW, I would say that there are many companies in Germany, Japan and Italy that were involved with the war. However, this was a commercial,not a confession for past sins. Otherwise, we would all be in the confessional. How’s Florida, Brother?

Loved this commercial overall, it does elicit memories and emotions of a simpler time, but with the water cooled era, I believe VW started to lose it's way and soul. Yes, I've owned versions of the water cooled VW's, Jetta's were my favorite, but the emotion wasn't there, it was good transportation, nothing more. No one ever came up and talked about my Jetta's, almost everyone will come up and talk when I have my 59 Rag out. Why? Memories and emotions.

Don’t like modern cars and this certainly applies to modern VW! Don’t watch or like sportsball either. The 3d Reich history of the beetle is a major part of its appeal for me!
